Evil Organization’s Extra Mr. A

Chapter 18

Episode 17

Hyper-human. This concept did not exist until 20 years ago when we first arrived on Earth.

At that time, Earth did not possess the physical capabilities to counter Spacystro and instead relied on large-scale military weapons to confront us. Earth’s weapons were powerful, but they were no match for Spacystro, which had mastered deep-space travel technology.

When Earthlings were on the verge of losing hope, Spacystro miraculously proposed a contest under equal conditions. Earth suggested a competition where no killing would occur in each region at the time.

Back then, we couldn’t understand the reason for such a proposal, but it didn’t take long for us to find out.

Earth had been planning to create hyper-humans with physical abilities beyond those of normal humans through genetic modification experiments. However, due to opposition from various organizations and groups, the plan had not been realized. The reasons ranged from human rights concerns to fears of disrupting the balance between nations.

But in the face of an overwhelming alien attack, the Earth Defense Union forcefully initiated the hyper-human experiments. The result was the emergence of humans with abilities comparable to those of Spacystro’s top-tier officials. Now, we are in a battle against them.

Although the situation has eased considerably, public reaction was not favorable when hyper-humans first appeared. They were artificially created through experiments to protect Earth and fought for the planet, but Earthlings couldn’t accept these beings who were different from them.

Now, most hyper-humans conceal their identities in daily life, wary of Spacystro’s attention.

In Yubin’s case, she never mentioned anything related to hyper-humans, let alone Spacystro, around me. But Pink was a bit different.

“Boss, that’s enough, right?”

“Yeah, thanks.”

She revealed herself as a hyper-human without hesitation, and the boss also knew she was one. The part-time worker at the counter also didn’t seem surprised, knowing she was a hyper-human.

“What? Are you surprised? Let’s get to work.”

Seeing me standing still, she threw a comment and went into the kitchen. I followed her, awkwardly observing her.

We know that hyper-humans hide their identities because of Spacystro. But even if they reveal their identities, we don’t have a way to track them down.

The current situation is proof of that. Pink didn’t hide her strength at all at work, demonstrating her hyper-human abilities, but until just now, I didn’t realize she wasn’t concealing her identity.

“Are you surprised?”

“Of course I am. Throwing a customer like that?”

Apart from hyper-humans, I’ve lived in Korea for a while since coming to Earth and visited many shops, but this is the first time I’ve seen someone throw a customer like that.

“What? I mean, I’m a hyper-human.”

“That’s none of my business.”

I already knew she was a hyper-human. The only surprising thing was that she wasn’t hiding her powers at all.

“You’re a strange one, aren’t you? Most people are shocked when they see a hyper-human.”

Was it too natural of a reaction from me? It’s like I’m not even curious about hyper-humans.

“I’ve seen plenty abroad. I’ve even seen them fight.”

“When you were a kid?”

“Yeah.”

She nodded as if convinced. It seemed like a plausible enough response. Since Pink is on the front lines, she knows that these battles usually take place in the middle of busy streets rather than in remote areas.

Doesn’t anyone think about safety? Well, there’s a strict no-killing rule, and if fights happened in remote areas, who knows what could go wrong.

Spacystro accepted the no-killing rule, and since we follow orders from above, we strictly enforce the rule to ensure civilians aren’t harmed during fights in urban areas.

Unlike us who fight in the HunterKiller Team, civilians’ physical strength is that of an average Earthling. Even an attack from a low-ranking member like me could be fatal.

“But are you sure it’s okay? Don’t the customers get scared?”

Still, it’s a place where customers come, and although it’s quieter than usual for a weekend, it’s not completely empty. Rumors could easily spread.

“It’s fine. The boss does a good job keeping things under wraps. The store is peaceful, so the customers don’t seem to mind.”

It seems that Pink can reveal her identity without hesitation thanks to the unbiased support of the boss.

“But if I keep standing out too much, it’s a bit much, so I work in the kitchen.”

Though I don’t want to feed her ego, Pink is quite pretty. Yubin is my girlfriend, but objectively speaking, Pink is a bit—just a little bit—prettier.

It might be better for business to have her at the counter to attract more male customers, but even if she revealed her identity for the sake of the store, it’s tough to stay in the spotlight all the time.

“So, how is it? Working in the kitchen with a beauty like me must feel like a dream, right?”

As soon as I started the dishes, I sighed at her self-praise.

“Ha…”

“Sighing already on the first day?”

I glanced beside me at Pink, who had started doing the dishes next to me. She doesn’t seem to realize I’m sighing because of her.

The first day was chaotic. I couldn’t help but keep an eye on Pink under surveillance, and when a sudden rush of customers came in, I was too busy to focus on anything else.

At first, I thought the kitchen work would just involve dishes and tidying up, but it was much more than I imagined. Since it was my first day, Pink handled most of the work while I continued washing dishes.

“Afternoon team. Time to clock out.”

When it was time for a break, the boss popped his head into the kitchen and announced the end of the workday. The evening shift workers came in and greeted Pink warmly, while I exchanged an awkward nod.

“Clock-out time!”

Since Pink worked from the morning until the afternoon like me, it was time to leave together. After changing in the storage room, I bumped into Pink in the lounge, who had also changed.

Seeing her outfit, I realized the difference between Pink in her suit earlier and Pink now.

While working, she wore a large jumpsuit that completely hid her figure. But now, she was dressed in a black tight-fitting dress that accentuated her body like never before.

She had also removed her mask and let her hair down, changing her entire vibe from when she was working. That was all I noticed. That’s why she didn’t seem like the same person I saw in her suit during battles.

“What? Do I look even prettier now?”

Seeing her summer outfit with shoulder straps, I began to understand why the man was chasing her earlier. But once again, at her self-praise, I frowned deeply. How many times was she going to repeat this? Did she really need that much validation?

“Yeah, yeah.”

I replied half-heartedly and left the kitchen. Pink followed, draping a thin cardigan over her arm before heading out. She greeted the boss and then we walked silently toward the subway.

“See you tomorrow!”

I turned around at Pink’s voice from behind. She was walking in the opposite direction and waved at me while walking backward. She has an unexpectedly bright personality.

“Yeah.”

I waved back casually and continued walking.

At my doorstep, I glanced at the convenience store where Yubin should have already clocked out before heading into the building. There, I found Yubin crouching in front of my door.

“What are you doing here?”

“……”

Squatting, Yubin looked up at me with a face full of discontent, glaring with narrowed eyes. I felt like I had done something seriously wrong and quickly checked my phone.

93 text messages and 15 missed calls—all from Yubin.

“Where have you been?”

Hearing her cold tone, I thought I should respond quickly, but I couldn’t say, “I was at the cafe where Pink from your team works, doing a part-time job.”

“Let’s talk inside.”

To buy some time to think, I reached out my hand to her, but she stood up without taking it. I cautiously opened the door and let her in.

Yubin walked inside without so much as a glance in my direction and sat on the couch. Feeling like I should sit next to her, I did.

“I’m sorry.”

Apologize first. Whatever explanation I give would be false, but it’s undeniably my fault for not contacting her for so long.

Yubin had plenty of time to text or call while working at the convenience store, and we would often exchange messages even during work hours. But suddenly, not hearing from me all afternoon and not picking up her calls was enough reason for her to be angry.

“I thought you were busy with work, but when I came home, you weren’t here either.”

Her tone clearly showed she was upset, and I didn’t know what to say first. Apologizing any further would only fuel her anger.

“I had to meet someone for work. Something came up suddenly, and I was too busy to contact you.”

Yubin, who had been staring at the floor, turned her head to look at me.

“It seems like I don’t know much about you.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, I don’t really know what kind of work you do.”

If she knew exactly what I did, I’d probably die on the spot. Even though the rule is no killing, I’d still be dead without any excuse.

“You’re not hiding anything from me, right?”

“Of course not. I’m outsourcing deep-space technology project designs. I met with a company today.”

It was a hastily concocted lie, but it was plausible. It aligned with the false information I had previously told Yubin, and she had no way of verifying it.

“Yubin, you’re not hiding anything from me, right?”

“No.”

……Of course, I know. Both of us know we can’t reveal our true identities to each other.

But knowing her identity, and despite knowing that I couldn’t reveal it myself, I felt a strange emotion when she firmly said “no.”

It was an indescribable feeling, but it wasn’t exactly a good one.

“I’m sorry. I’ll contact you next time.”

To forget the uneasy feeling, I hugged Yubin and apologized. She, who had been pouting, quickly softened and hugged me back.

“Okay. I’ll forgive you.”

“I’ll probably be out a lot on weekends for a while. I might not be able to answer your calls in the afternoons.”

“Okay. You told me, so it’s fine.”

The reason she was upset was the lack of communication. After explaining briefly what would happen moving forward, Yubin smiled and nodded.

“Did you come here because I didn’t answer your calls?”

“Well, even if that hadn’t been the case, I was planning to drop by before heading home. You didn’t answer, so…”

It’s only a 3-4-minute walk from the convenience store where Yubin works to my place—a minute if you run. Her stopping by my place after work was, in a way, a natural thing to do.

“I’ll send you my number via text. If I’m not home, you can just come in.”

“Okay.”

Looking at her satisfied face, I felt confident I had handled things well and felt like giving myself a pat on the back.

Since Yubin didn’t have any spare clothes or toiletries prepared, we decided she would head home after dinner. After she left, I made a call to Luche.

“Hello?”

“What are you doing?”

“I’m about to shower. Why?”

“I’m calling to report since we’ve wrapped up for the day.”

From now on, since Yubin might be at my place when I return, I decided to call and report on my way home.

“Go ahead.”

Since it was the first day, there wasn’t much progress, so I only reported the noteworthy information.

The only piece of information worth mentioning was that Pink didn’t hide her hyper-human identity at all. It wasn’t immediately helpful, but understanding her approach could provide insights into how to monitor her.

“So, in the end, all you did today was work?”

“What can I do? I infiltrated as a part-time worker, so I had to work.”

“Alright. Are you going tomorrow?”

This part-time job was only for Saturdays and Sundays, so I had to go back tomorrow to keep monitoring Pink.

“Yes. Please give me some time to adjust to the environment there.”

“I’m not rushing you from the start of the surveillance. Work hard, and let me know if you get any more information.”

“Understood.”

Luche hung up first, and finally, I could feel the silence of being alone.

I wanted to hug Yubin again, but I decided to restrain myself since I had work the next day. Also, given that I now have to go to work, it’s better not to strain myself.

As I thought about taking a shower, my phone rang, and it was Yubin.

“Hello?”

She had called because she was lonely on her way home, and like that, my first day of monitoring Pink ended without any significant results.
