Chapter 16 Conspiracy
"Wait a moment…"
Uncle Lin, who had been watching from the side, spoke up.
After all, Lin Xueyi was someone he had introduced, and seeing the young woman in her twenties being humiliated by Wu Wei, Uncle Lin couldn't hold back any longer.
Uncle Lin picked up the tea on the table, took a sip, and said, "Awey, others call you Brother Wei, but I watched you grow up, so I'll take the liberty of calling you Awey."
"I brought Sister Xue over today, actually, to talk things over for both of our families."
"We're all old neighbors from the same street, where you can't help but see each other, a little misunderstanding, it would be good if we talked it out, don't you think…"
Lin Xueyi stood by the table, looking at Uncle Lin with gratitude, her eyes reddening, vulnerable and pitiful.
"Uncle Lin, you haven't had dinner yet, have you?"
Before Uncle Lin could finish speaking, Wu Wei cut him off.
He gave a hollow laugh, leisurely standing up: "Knowing Uncle Lin was coming over today, I specially prepared a treat for Uncle Lin."
Wu Wei said, and with a snap of his fingers, he casually commanded, "Bring up the gift I have for Uncle Lin."
His two henchmen shouted down to the floor below.
Then they saw two workers from Hongbin Building, carrying a steaming hot steamer up the stairs and opened the lid of the steamer.
Inside the steamer, there were over thirty white and fluffy buns, steaming hot.
"Awey, what… what are you doing?"
Upon seeing this scene, not only was Lin Xueyi stunned, but Uncle Lin's eyes were also wide with shock.
Wu Wei looked at Uncle Lin with that fake smile, the clump of black hair on his cheek continuously trembling.
He said coolly, "Returning a favor. I, Wu Wei, am someone who knows how to repay kindness, everyone knows that."
"Right after I was released from prison, it was Uncle Lin's bun shop that kept me alive."
"If it weren't for Uncle Lin's kindness, I, Wu Wei, would have probably starved to death long ago."
"So today, knowing that Uncle Lin was coming over, I had Hongbin Restaurant's chef prepare these buns for Uncle Lin."
As he spoke, the sardonic smile on his face became increasingly fierce: "Everyone knows that you, Uncle Lin, are a benefactor to me, Wu Wei."
"Everyone knows that you, this old guy, saved my life; everyone uses you to pressure me."
"What is it? Moral blackmail? If I don't listen to you, Uncle Lin, does that make me ungrateful? Heartless as a wolf, ruthless as a dog?"
"Because I ate a couple of your buns, must I listen to you for the rest of my life, huh?"
By the end, Wu Wei's voice grew louder and louder until he was outright roaring.
His teeth ground together with a grating noise, his nostrils flared as he breathed heavily, he stepped menacingly towards Uncle Lin, his horse-like face twisted and fierce.
Uncle Lin hadn't expected Wu Wei to turn on him so abruptly, and he was so frightened that he didn't know what to do, his face ashen.
Under Wu Wei's relentless advance, Uncle Lin retreated step by step, stumbling and fearful as he said, "Awey, that's not what I meant, you've misunderstood…"
Lin Xueyi clung to Uncle Lin nervously, retreating with him, her pretty face turning deathly pale.
"Alright, I, Wu Wei, am not an ungrateful person, today we repay kindness with kindness, and settle grudges properly."
"Uncle Lin, I have eaten your buns, and these buns are to repay you, take the buns and go, and don't bother me again from now on."
Wu Wei watched the two of them in disarray, took a deep breath, and regained his lazy composure from before.
He spoke indifferently, without so much as a glance at Lin Xueyi and Uncle Lin.
"Yes... Thank you, Brother Wei."
Uncle Lin's face was filled with sorrow, he glanced apologetically at Lin Xueyi, and didn't dare say anything more, turning to walk downstairs.
"Uncle Lin…"
Wu Wei's voice lingered, languidly speaking, "You forgot to take your things with you, those buns, all of them were given to you as a repayment of my gratitude."
"Remember from now on, don't meddle in other people's business, especially the business of Wu Wei."
Uncle Lin stopped, his body trembling slightly.
He turned around, picked the buns from the steamer into a plastic bag, and shakily made his way downstairs.
Lin Xueyi's heart felt hollow; she felt like a lamb that had inadvertently wandered into a wolf's den.
Seeing the way Wu Wei was, her heart was tightly wound, her fingers gripping the edge of her clothes to death.
"As for you, Boss Lin, right? If someone is injured, it's only right and proper to compensate for medical expenses."
"Don't bother trying to reason with me, it's useless!"
Wu Wei's narrow eyes coldly fixed on Lin Xueyi, he said indifferently, "After all, Ma Liu is my man. Your people injured him, if I don't stand up for him, who will?"
"Within three days, pay one million in compensation. As for that odd-job man from the hotel, whether to chop off his hands or arms, it's for Ma Liu to decide."
"If you don't pay up after three days, heh heh, it won't be just a simple matter of one million anymore. By then, don't blame me for being ruthless and merciless."
Lost and dispirited, Lin Xueyi walked out of the Hongbin Restaurant, and as soon as she turned the street corner, tears involuntarily fell.
What revolved in her mind over and over again was Wu Wei's ferocious threat.
The huge sum of one million was like a heavy stone pressing on her chest, making it hard for her to breathe.
On the third floor of the Hongbin Restaurant, Wu Wei watched Lin Xueyi's retreating figure with Thoughts of Longing.
He lazily smoked, one cigarette after another.
By the time he reached the third cigarette, he extinguished it in the ashtray and then dismissed his people.
Wu Wei took out his phone and dialed a mysterious number.
On the other end of the line, a frivolous male voice came through, "How did it go?"
The overbearing and vicious Wu Wei now adopted a tone of deference, "How could I dare to neglect a task entrusted by Young Master Sun?"
"Heh heh, I gave Lin Xueyi a good beating, suppressed her spirit, and forced her to pay up."
"I reckon that right now, she's desperately looking for help."
"Don't go too far, though. After all, if my plans come to fruition, we'll still have to face each other in the future."
"Sister Xueyi, I can't bear to see her suffer, but if she's stubborn, then we need to keep the pressure on, keep the tension tight."
"When she's trapped and has nowhere left to turn, that's when I'll appear, and things will be much easier."
Wu Wei chortled, "Young Master Sun, your Flirting Skills are truly unparalleled. I think this beautiful boss lady can hardly escape from the palms of Sun Shao."
"Haha, I hadn't paid attention before, but seeing Lin Xueyi today, she truly is a Heavenly Immortal, no wonder Young Master Sun is smitten."
"Heh heh, a woman like Lin Xueyi, while beautiful, is not someone just anyone can handle."
"If you want her to submit meekly, you need to be a bit crafty."
On the other end of the phone, Young Master Sun's breathing became heavier.
Clearly, the mention of Lin Xueyi stirred excitement in Young Master Sun.
"Alright then, I'll continue to put pressure on Lin Xueyi."
"Don't worry, Young Master Sun. I've checked into Lin Xueyi's financials – she can't come up with one million at all."
"This beautiful woman will ultimately throw herself into your arms, haha."
On the phone, the two men both laughed lewdly.
