Chapter 14 A Bad Feeling
Yang Fei seemed to thoroughly enjoy Feng Cai'er's gaze, looking quite smug.
He ran a hand through his hair, puffing himself up, "As a guy who is loved by everyone and can make flowers bloom with his charm, I've gotten used to the fiery gazes of the opposite sex."
"However, as a girl, I would advise you to be more reserved. Being too forward and enthusiastic might make it hard for you to get married."
"You jerk!"
Although Feng Cai'er was used to his rogue-like tone, she couldn't help but spit at him.
She couldn't resist her curious nature and softened her tone, "Seriously, who are you, really? Were you in the military?"
Yang Fei chuckled, "Yeah, but I wasn't very accomplished. Spent three years raising pigs in the army then I was discharged. Why, do you have a problem with that?"
"Girls who are both nosy and unreserved, be careful or you really won't get married."
Feng Cai'er was choked by his words and instantly glared, "What, can't I ask?"
"Don't forget, you're still my suspect. I have to escort you back to the police station."
"Damn it, so the agreement we just made was all hot air, huh?"
Yang Fei suddenly became agitated, cursing and grumbling.
In fact, he did not want Sister Xueyi to be troubled over his issues, so he just took up the task involving Feng Cai'er as a side thing.
He hadn't expected this girl to go back on her word!
"Gege, you do know I'm a woman, don't you? Sometimes, women's words should not be taken too seriously."
"Don't forget, you are still locked to me."
Noticing his anger, Feng Cai'er suddenly laughed coquettishly.
She teasingly tugged at the handcuff chain, "Well, I can't find the key anyways, so figure it out."
"Hehe, you think just because there's no key, I have no way to unlock it?"
Provoked by Feng Cai'er, Yang Fei was no longer angry but looked at her mischievously.
His peculiar gaze suddenly made Feng Cai'er feel nervous, "You... what are you planning to do?"
"Don't move..."
Yang Fei reached out towards Feng Cai'er's temple.
Feng Cai'er felt a heavy masculine scent hit her face.
She suddenly jumped, guiltily covering her chest, "You...what exactly are you trying to do?"
Before she could finish, Yang Fei had already retracted his hand, holding something—it was Feng Cai'er's earring.
The earring was entwined with gold threads, formed into a tiny rose shape, looking quite exquisite.
"Why did you remove my earring, how annoying!"
Feng Cai'er reflexively touched her ear, only to find Yang Fei meticulously taking apart the earring.
A perfectly good earring, he dismantled it, straightened it, and finally turned it into a wire as thick as a strand of hair.
And this guy even cheekily flashed it at Feng Cai'er.
"What on earth are you doing, compensate me for my earring!"
This time, Feng Cai'er was really angry.
Yang Fei ignored her. He concentrated as he inserted the thin metal wire into the keyhole of the handcuff and carefully tinkered a few times.
With a click, the handcuff lock sprang open.
"Dear Lord! You jerk, you actually opened the handcuffs so easily..."
Even though she had just experienced such a thrilling scene, Feng Cai'er's nerves had been harshly stimulated.
But watching this guy casually unlocking the handcuffs with just a metal wire left her utterly shocked and speechless.
These were police handcuffs, with specially made keys.
In this man's hands, how could they seem like play dough that could just be opened at will?
Yang Fei pulled his wrist out of the handcuffs and moved it about.
He smugly smiled at Feng Cai'er, "In this world, the lock that can hold me back hasn't been made yet…"
"Bye-bye, I'll miss you, beautiful."
Having said that, he stood up, took two quick steps, and disappeared at the crowded end of the train car.
"You jerk, don't go…"
Feng Cai'er, shocked, snapped back to reality and hurriedly got up, chasing after him through the crowded throng.
But on the train, packed like sardines, there was no way to move freely.
Feng Cai'er, being a girl, simply couldn't get through.
She had no choice but to stop and watch helplessly as Yang Fei, slippery as an eel, vanished without a trace.
"Bastard, a guy like that, if he's not a suspect in a brawl, he's definitely a magnificent outlaw, arms dealer, drug trafficker, solo thief, crazed youth…"
"Anyway, he's no good person!"
Feng Cai'er, amid the curious stares of those around her, returned to her seat, her mind running wild with thoughts.
In the end, she clenched her fists hard: "No matter what, I have to keep an eye on you, you can't escape."
Yang Fei, having shaken off Feng Cai'er, sighed in relief.
He pulled out a cigarette, lit it, took a deep drag, and as he thought about the purpose of his trip, his expression grew somber.
Meanwhile, in the Lanting Hotel, Lin Xueyi was also frowning deeply.
The one million yuan in medical fees Wu Wei demanded was an astronomical figure for Lin Xueyi.
Unless she sold the hotel, she could never round up that amount.
But to Lin Xueyi, the hotel had a special significance, and she would not sell it no matter what.
Early in the morning, Lin Xueyi rested her chin in her hands and sat staring blankly at the counter.
Brother Wei's three-day deadline was about to expire after one more day.
Mingling in the XS district, Lin Xueyi knew well the kind of person Big Rascal Wu Wei was: ruthless and uncompromising.
If she couldn't raise the one million within these three days, she couldn't bear to think what he might do.
"Sister Xueyi, don't worry too much, why don't we call the police?"
Li Hong, busy in front of the computer, turned around and sighed at Lin Xueyi's wooden expression.
"With no evidence, what's the use in calling the cops? If it angers Wu Wei, it might become something more than just a matter of one million yuan."
Lin Xueyi said gloomily, her eyelids fluttering slightly, "How about it, did you get in touch with Yang Fei?"
"No, Brother Fei doesn't even have a cellphone, and we don't know where he went, ah!"
Li Hong also sighed, Lin Xueyi was very kind to the staff down there, treating them like family.
Now that Lin Xueyi was in trouble, everyone was worried along with her.
"If there's no other way, I'll just have to ask someone to request a meeting with Wu Wei, see if we can get him to ease up a bit."
"If he backs down, even if I have to scrape together everything I own for thirty-some thousand, I can still accept that."
Lin Xueyi sighed, disappointed, "Just when Yang Fei goes on leave, hya…"
"If he were here, he might have had an idea, sigh…"
Lin Xueyi had mingled in the XS district for years, knew many people both shady and upright.
But when it came to Wu Wei, most people just shook their heads and politely declined.
They all said Wu Wei was a guy who valued money over life, was ruthlessly hard-hearted, and had a very strong backing, someone who did not show favoritism.
The world is tough, human feelings are frosty, being a woman is hard, being a boss like Lin Xueyi is even harder.
Finally, Lin Xueyi found an acquaintance, Uncle Lin, who had once been kind to Wu Wei.
After he pleaded for Lin Xueyi, Wu Wei agreed to meet her; the meeting was set for noon the next day at the Hongbin Building restaurant.
Strangely, Lin Xueyi did not feel relieved.
From the few words exchanged over Wu Wei's phone call, Lin Xueyi had an ominous premonition.
"If only Yang Fei were here."
Lin Xueyi thanked Uncle Lin, hung up his call, and dreamily thought.
Unintentionally, Yang Fei, that irresponsible jerk of a man, had become her pillar of support in Lin Xueyi's heart.
