Chapter 4: Is He Just a Decoration as a Husband?
Both the husband and wife have such similar careers?
What a divine providence.
The company was moderate in size with approximately twenty seats in the office and around twenty employees. Some were making calls, some were handling paperwork, and some seats were vacant, probably because they were out working.
As soon as Yigol Novak entered, a staff member came over and asked, "Hello, sir, are you here to view properties?"
"No, I'm looking for Suri Drew. Is she here?" Yigol Novak asked.
The staff member hesitated for a moment and responded, "I'm sorry, sir, Mrs. Drew is not here. Maybe you can come again later."
Understanding the staff member's reaction, Yigol Novak stepped forward patiently and said, "She is my wife."
"Sir, please mind your language. Don't make up stories here. Please leave and don't disturb our work," the staff member said angrily.
"I really…" Yigol Novak wanted to explain, but then he thought how unconvincing his words were.
He even didn't have Suri Drew's phone number. It was understandable that other people didn't know that they had registered their marriage that morning.
There was nothing else he could do if people didn't believe him.
"Can I at least wait for her over there?" Yigol Novak looked around, planning to find a chair and wait.
"That is the customer rest area. You can wait there," the staff member pointed to a nearby rest area.
After giving his thanks, Yigol Novak came to the rest area and started scrolling through his phone.
After a little while, Yigol Novak suddenly heard someone asking for Suri Drew. When he looked up, he was surprised to see Bob Presley, whom he had previously met at the Civil Affairs Department.
The staff member gave Bob Presley the same response, saying Suri Drew was not there.
Hadn't Bob Presley just left with Quinn Powell?
Why did he leave her to come back here?
Did he consider Yigol as mere decoration?
He hadn't been involved in Suri Drew's life before, so it didn't matter.
But now, Suri Drew was his wife, and he wouldn't let anyone harass her.
Bob Presley yelled angrily at the staff members "Every time I come, you always say she's not here. Do you think I'm a fool?"
The staff member tried to calm him down. "That's not the case, sir. Mrs. Drew really isn't here."
Bob Presley barged in without any further explanation. "I'll go and see for myself. I don't need you to tell me."
Seeing that Bob Presley was going to force his way in, the staff member quickly tried to stop him, but Yigol Novak had already stepped forward.
"You again?"
Bob Presley naturally remembered Yigol Novak, the man that Suri Drew had called "husband."
"You're Bob Presley, right? My wife said you were her old classmate?"
"I didn't expect that you, as an old classmate, could be so shameless. My wife has clearly expressed her disinterest in seeing you, yet you're still clinging on. I suggest you stop harassing her," Yigol Novak casually glanced at Bob Presley and said.
Bob Presley sneered back, "Are you here waiting for your reward from Suri Drew?"
"Tell me, how much did she promise to give you? I'll pay."
"Even though I know you were hired to put on a show, I find your cockiness very annoying. After you get your money, get lost right away, or else I will leave you unable to even do delivery work."
"So if you say it's a performance, then it's a performance? You can think what you want. All you need to know is that as long as I'm here, you can only dream of forcing your way in," Yigol Novak stood between Bob Presley and the door.
Bob Presley gave Yigol Novak a provocative look, "I advise you, you should quit while you're ahead."
"If it's not meant for you, don't keep hoping."
"Before I lose my patience, tell me your price. I'll double it. Take the money and get lost, or you will have to blame your own self for the consequences."
Yigol Novak also stepped forward, looking provocatively at Bob Presley, "I advise you as well, get lost as soon as possible, or you'll have to blame your own self for the consequences."
"You and Quinn Powell are suitable for each other, both not knowing the bounds of propriety. If it's not meant for you, don't dwell on it. The thickness of your face is really extraordinary."
"Aren't you already with that Quinn Powell? I don't care if you're genuinely attracted to her or just playing with her. My wife has expressed her stance clearly. If you were any bit intelligent, you would understand her and not keep coming here to stir up trouble."
"Ignorant thing, are you sure the expected reward from Suri Drew will be enough to cover your medical expenses?" Bob Presley's eyes were filled with ruthless intent.
"Medical expenses? You think too highly of yourself, I'm a rough and tough guy, do you think you, a rich family's son who's been pampered his whole life, could be my opponent?" Yigol Novak sneered.
"Alright, you just wait. I'll teach you a lesson," Bob Presley was angry, but he didn't dare to clash with Yigol Novak in public. He could only leave dejectedly.
Yigol Novak returned to his previous seat. At this point, the staff member from before came over, "Sir, are you really acquainted with Mrs. Drew?"
"She is my wife," Yigol Novak replied.
"You …" his words left the staff member flabbergasted.
Swallowing her frustration, the staff continued, "Could you tell me your name, please?"
"Why are you asking for my name?" Yigol Novak asked back.
"Since you've never visited our company before and you're not as annoying as that 'Presley', I will report it."
"You remember I've never been here before?" Yigol Novak continued questioning.
"If you were a customer, I naturally wouldn't remember. But if you came specifically to look for Mrs. Drew, I would remember," the staff member answered truthfully.
"You have a point. Sure, go ahead with your report. Just say that her 'husband' is here to find her."
The staff member glanced at Yigol Novak speechlessly before leaving.
The company's layout wasn't complicated. The staff member went into a closed room outside the employee work area.
Very soon, Yigol Novak saw Suri Drew return with the staff member.
Yigol Novak stood up and walked over. Suri Drew hugged Yigol Novak's arm and asked, "Husband, why did you come?"
Her voice was clear, and everyone in the company could hear it.
Everyone was surprised, shocked, and could not believe what they were seeing.
The staff member from before was even more surprised as she covered her mouth and looked at Yigol Novak.
"You weren't coming home, so I came to find you. I wanted to see what you were busy with and if there was anything I could help with," Yigol Novak replied.
"Let's talk in my office."
"Okay."
Yigol Novak followed Suri Drew into her office, out of view of the rest of the staff.
"Have a seat."
"Why did you call me 'husband' in front of your employees? This could damage your image," Yigol Novak said as he sat down.
"What's the problem? Getting married is a very normal thing. As long as we're not divorced, I will call you 'husband' every day," Suri Drew said indifferently.
Suri Drew sat down at her desk, "I'll finish my work first then we'll return home. Please wait a moment. Can I get you something to drink?"
"No need, you go on with your work. Don't let me distract you," Yigol Novak looked at Suri Drew, who was concentrating on her work, and secretly marveled at how great the system was to have arranged such a beautiful and competent wife for him.
