Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Terminus Est
Every time Rias remembered it, her emotions grew complicated.
Servants were her friends, practically her family. She never treated them as subordinates or tools the way many other devils did. But at that time, Hikaru's words had left her at a loss.
Still, she later heard that her friend Sona Sitri had likewise taken notice of Hikaru's talent and sent her own Queen to recruit him—only to suffer the same rejection.
"We'll just keep an eye on him. Don't cut off contact completely in the meantime."
Rias sighed.
"Oh, right—about those Fallen Angels who snuck in here, when do we plan to make a move?"
Akeno Himejima asked. As she spoke, the gentle look in her eyes faded, replaced by a hint of killing intent.
"No rush. Let's observe what they're plotting in secret first, and prepare accordingly."
Rias replied firmly.
…
Meanwhile...
While Rias and Akeno were conversing late into the night, their so-called "culprit," Hikaru, had already returned home.
His place was a single-occupant villa—which, for Japan, was large by any standard. At the moment, he was the only person living there.
Well—there was one other occupant, but not a human.
After Hikaru set his bag down, a cluster of silvery light suddenly emerged from his body. As it sparkled, the shape of a sword began to materialize, then quickly transformed into the figure of a young girl.
She had silver hair and flawless skin, with a petite build, appearing roughly elementary-school-aged. Her name was Terminus Est.
When Hikaru first obtained her, he was quite stunned; most people who transmigrate might receive some powerful gear or a companion. He got both in one package.
"Thanks for all your help today, Est."
Hikaru smiled gently, speaking with evident warmth in his tone as he placed his hand on Est's soft head.
"If it can help you, Onii-chan, then it's no trouble at all."
When Est first manifested, she came with full affection for Hikaru and would listen to anything he said—except when it came to her over-the-knee black stockings. Even Hikaru couldn't force her to remove them. Aside from that, she didn't mind being bare in every other respect.
He wasn't used to her little quirks at first, but after a few years of living together, they understood each other extremely well. Out in public, they simply posed as brother and sister.
Despite their differing hair colors—his black, hers silver—in this mixed-anime world, such things certainly didn't exclude them from being siblings. After all, there was that certain father whose two daughters had different hair, Airi and Marina, and they were still blood relatives.
"Onii-chan, what do you want to eat tonight?"
Est's face remained emotionless as she spoke, giving her the appearance of a lifeless machine. But Hikaru was already used to her personality. She only looked cold on the outside; unlike a true "emotionless girl," she still had normal human feelings—she just expressed them differently.
"Let's have steamed buns tonight. I've still got some filling left over from yesterday."
Hikaru said. Thanks to his cheat ability, "Heaven Rewards Diligence," he could master almost anything he practiced. Skills like cooking, which take normal people years to refine, took him only two and a half months to reach Michelin-chef levels. He also brought painting, singing, writing, driving, boxing, and more to pinnacle levels—achievements outstripping even longtime masters in those fields.
Still, Hikaru never showed off. Having carried this advantage since childhood and trained for years, he felt there was little worth bragging about—just that he was, well, a bit stronger than the average person.
After suggesting steamed buns for dinner, Est's eyes narrowed in contentment. She followed him into the kitchen to help out. They wrapped the filling in dough, steamed it in a pot, and finished after about forty minutes.
"So hot..."
Est took a piping-hot white bun and carefully bit into it. Being sensitive to heat, she soon opened her mouth and started blowing on it, making Hikaru chuckle affectionately. He handed her a glass of ice water.
Watching such a cute display, Hikaru felt his tension melt away. The path of transmigration could be lonely, especially given how reserved he was in showcasing his abilities. Est's arrival had undeniably brought him much-needed warmth. At night, this silver-haired loli would even transform into her human form to warm his bed, hugging him until he fell asleep. That was why Hikaru treated her not as a weapon, but more like a genuine sister.
At the dinner table...
Noticing Est quietly spitting out a few pieces of the bun's filling, Hikaru spoke up with mild exasperation:
"Being picky with food isn't good for you. Ginger is beneficial in small amounts."
"Mmm... okay."
Est nodded without expression. Then, pinching her nose as if swallowing poison, she forced down the morsels containing shredded ginger. Seeing her act so dramatically, Hikaru couldn't help but laugh.
"Last time I didn't add ginger, you insisted that I should."
"Because it tastes different if it doesn't have ginger."
"All right—once you're done eating, get some rest. I've got school tomorrow."
"Okay."
