Chapter 320: The secreat of Su Yen's parent.
At the border of the Northern Continent, a strange phenomenon began to occur.
Standing to the side were a middle-aged couple looking at flickering formation lights inscribed on the ground.
With each second passing, the light got brighter, and a strong, powerful force appeared at the center of the formation.
Suddenly, a ripple occurred in space, and the empty plain began to change. A pathway appeared out of thin air, and the couple looked at each other, a sigh of relief escaping their mouths.
Holding each other's hands, the couple took a deep breath and walked inside toward the opened pathway.
Walking through the path, the scenery around them changed, and they appeared at the foot of a small mountain.
Lush flowers spread everywhere; the air was peaceful, with thick spiritual energy permeating the air.
"Home sweet home!" the man said.
The woman did not share the sentiment of her man; she looked at the beautiful environment with various conflicting emotions on her face.
"I hope this is worth it?" she said once again, her voice dripping with uncertainty.
Her husband gripped her hand tightly and said with a gentle voice, "Honey, it will surely be worth it."
Suddenly, the sound of heavy footsteps came from the distance, and the peaceful atmosphere became tense.
An old man with a long white beard appeared in the sky, glaring at the intruders.
"Who are you?" he shouted, as a powerful aura emanated from his body.
Since the thought of a mysterious expert living in the outside world, they've been cautious, increasing their security.
Right then, a group of armored guards with long spears marched toward them with cold, expressionless gazes.
The guards stopped a couple of feet from the couple, ready to attack them.
However, the couple did not show a change in their expression.
"I'm Su Wei, son of Su Yifan," the man declared proudly.
Eh!
The hovering figure in the sky was stunned for a moment, while the guards were confused.
Who the hell was Su Wei!
How did he know one of their grand elders?!
Just as they were reeling in confusion, the old man in the sky descended with shock still on his face.
"A-Are you really his son?" he asked with a trembling voice.
"Yes."
He stared at him for a couple of seconds before he muttered, "I can sense our bloodline in you, though it's faint. I can still sense it."
The couple did not respond, waiting for the man to complete his evaluation.
"Welcome home, follow me," he declared, leaving the confused guards frozen.
Quickly, the news about the sudden arrival of Su Wei, son of Su Yifan, spread throughout the Ancient Su clans.
As an ancient clan, the Su clan was like a small town. Those from the Main family lived at the core area while those from the branch families lived at the outer part of the clan.
As for the servants and slaves, they lived at the outskirts of the town. Continue reading stories on empire
At the center of the core area was a magnificent hall.
With the news of the arrival of Su Wei, all the elders began to rush inside the hall with looks of astonishment on their faces.
Su Wei had been banished from the main clan for over a century to the barren land.
Why would he return now?
Standing at the center of the hall, Su Wei looked at the seated elders, some familiar faces and some unknown.
Shortly, three powerful people entered the hall dressed in red and purple robes.
They were the three grand elders of the clan. The oldest among them looked at Su Wei with a knitted brow but did not utter any words.
As for the other two, they looked at him with hidden disdain.
Many might know why such a useless child would be sent to exile in the barren land.
But how could they not know of it.
The three grand elders took their seats below the majestic throne at the center of the hall.
With their arrival, the hall descended into abrupt silence as they awaited the ancestor.
Creak!
The ancestor arrived, dressed in a plain gray Daoist robe. He was old with pure white hair and beard.
Both the grand elders and elders stood on their feet and gave a deep bow.
Taking his seat on his throne, the ancestor waved his hand, and they took their seats.
"Why are you back? The last time I checked, you were a disgrace to my clan and sent to exile," the Ancestor began in a low voice.
When the elders heard this, they sucked in a cold breath and exchanged subtle glances.
"Grandfather…"
"I don't have such a useless grandson. Tell me why you came back or I will hang your head at the center of the clan," the Ancestor interrupted impatiently.
When Su Wei's wife heard this, she shivered, and blood drained from her face.
Deep in her heart, she had begun to regret their actions.
Perhaps, they should have stayed back and enjoyed their peace in the barren land.
Su Wei was likewise shocked; he did not expect his loving grandfather to be this cold to him.
Even though he was exiled to the barren land, he did not harbor any deep grudge toward his clan or father.
He knew the clan rules against marrying outside the clan.
However, he did not care as long as the love of his life was with him.
Everyone was so fine.
Looking at the indifferent gaze directed at him by his own father.
It was then he realized, the clan had long forgotten about him and he was no longer part of them.
Hurt by this realization but he controlled his emotions and said slowly.
"I return with news that might benefit our clan," he declared slowly.
"What news?" his father, Su Yifan, asked with an expressionless gaze.
"The Ancient Battlefield."
