Chapter 63: The Mysterious Jade Box
"Stand aside, let me go! As long as I leave, I'll release her!" the bandit shouted fiercely, his face full of fear.
——He had witnessed countless of his brothers fall under this young man's sword and the claws of that ferocious beast!
Chu Hao glanced around the room—the women were all heavily made up and extremely beautiful, but their expressions were numb amidst their panic, and if one looked closely, the makeup could not conceal the scars of abuse!
He understood that when bandits raided merchant caravans, they would loot goods and silver notes, kill most of the people, but young and beautiful women would be taken back to the stockade. And the fate of these women... was all too clear without saying!
That was precisely why he abhorred Seven Wolf Stockade so much and would never let a single bandit go! Yet to watch an innocent woman who had already suffered immensely die alongside a bandit was something he could not bring himself to do!
"Go! Go!" That bandit shouted at the hostage, moving his feet and walking toward the direction of the wooden hut's doorway.
Chu Hao's eyes were icy. He was looking for an opportunity to strike a fatal blow, to kill the bandit instantly without giving him a chance to drag the hostage to their deaths together.
But at that moment, the hostage cast a resolute look at him, abruptly reached out to grab the blade, then twisted her neck. Spurt—a spray of blood gushed out, and her body slumped down limply.
The bandit was first stunned, not expecting the woman to be so fierce. After snapping out of it, he quickly lunged at the other women, attempting to take another hostage.
"Hmph!" Chu Hao's feet sprung up, and he shot out like a flying arrow.
The strength of eighty thousand catties burst forth in an instant, and Chu Hao's speed was like an arrow released from a bowstring; even the floorboards were crushed beneath his feet. He appeared in front of the bandit in a blink, seizing him in his grip.
Before his eyes, he still saw the determined look of the woman just now and the ghastly spray of blood from her neck!
Suffering in this world only ends with death!
This woman would rather die than let the bandit escape, showing how much she had suffered at the hands of the bandit, to the extent that she would rather end her own life than become a hostage!
This filled Chu Hao's chest with raging fury!
The people of Seven Wolf Stockade, they all deserved to die!
"No, spare me, I know where the Big Stockade Leader's treasure is hidden, I can take you there!" the bandit trembled all over, begging for his life incessantly.
Chu Hao responded coldly, twisting his right hand sharply, "Ah——" the bandit screamed miserably as one of his arms was twisted into a twisted shape. Blood quickly surged out, and the bone, stark white, pierced through the skin.
"Ah—— Ah—— Ah——" The bandit screamed in agony, cold sweat the size of soybeans rolling down from his forehead.
Chu Hao had no sympathy, grabbing the bandit's other arm.
"No! No!" The bandit was in absolute terror.
Chu Hao paid no heed, merely twisting his hand again!
"Ah——" The bandit screamed again as his other arm twisted into a twisted shape. He fainted from the pain, but the intense agony woke him up instantly, then he fainted again, this cycle leaving his consciousness in a haze.
Chu Hao's gaze turned to the women in the hut—they all had fierce looks in their eyes and were staring deathly at the bandit. He casually threw him aside, saying, "This one is for you to handle!"
He turned and walked out of the hut, immediately hearing the bandit's screams of agony, which were ten times more intense than before!
The killing intent in Chu Hao's eyes flared up again; there were still quite a few people in this den of thieves who needed to be dealt with!
He began to clear the place out. An hour later, besides the women who had been abducted by the bandits, there were no more living people left.
A wave of fatigue overwhelmed him, and Chu Hao couldn't help but sit down. The weariness was not from his body, but from his soul. He had never gone on such a killing spree before, which made him feel indescribably uncomfortable and nauseous.
Yet if he had to do it all over, he would make the same choice again!
These bandits had committed countless evils, each deserving to die a hundred times over!
After sitting for about ten minutes, Flying Fire came over and dozed off by his side. Chu Hao rubbed Little Leopard's head and stood up; the bandits had plundered for many years and must have accumulated a lot of wealth.
After a long search, he finally found the Big Stockade Leader's wooden hut with a conspicuously large chest inside, full of gold, silver, jewels, silver notes, and various other items.
As for ill-gotten wealth, Chu Hao naturally did not hold back, pocketing all the silver notes into the Mustard Seed Ring. As for the gold and silver, which took up too much space, his Mustard Seed Ring could not accommodate them!
To be distributed to the women who had been abducted!
Chu Hao thought to himself, and began rummaging through the chest. Unfortunately, he did not find any Star Stones or Pills which left him somewhat disappointed. He kept rummaging until he reached the bottom of the chest, and that's when a white Jade Vase appeared before him.
What was odd was that this vase seemed to have no opening, not even a seam was visible! But it definitely was not a large piece of jade stone. Chu Hao shook it and could clearly feel it was hollow inside, with something rolling around.
After trying for quite some time without being able to open it, Chu Hao lost patience and smashed the Jade Vase onto the ground, but it proved extremely durable and did not break.
Chu Hao put a bit more force into it, but upon smashing it down the result was the same, not even a scratch marred the surface of the Jade Vase.
So durable?
Chu Hao did not believe in such resilience. He placed the Jade Vase on the ground and, gathering all his strength, punched down.
Bang!
The wooden boards on the ground immediately shattered, and the jade box sunk deeply into the earth, yet it remained completely undamaged!
"Again!" Chu Hao drew out the Red Shadow Sword and slashed down with it.
Clang!
The Red Shadow Sword hacked down and a spark flew, rebounding immediately. The jade box was still without a scratch, not even a mark from the sword could be seen.
So sturdy!
Let's try with Star Force!
He took out a Star Stone and activated its power to strike the jade box, but it was like a wave breaking against a dam, immediately bouncing back, unable to penetrate at all!
Clearly, this jade box did not belong to the Big Stockade Leader; it was something he had plundered, but he evidently could not open it, nor was he willing to discard it, so he threw it at the very bottom of the chest.
Disappointing to eat, yet regrettable to throw away!
Chu Hao thought to himself, if his power surged once more and then he hammered at it with a great iron mallet, would that be able to smash open this jade box? What was key, though, was that the jade box clearly had been crafted by humans—how could it have such straight edges if it formed naturally, and why was it empty inside?
Then, just how formidable was the person who crafted this jade box, to be able to carve such hard jade stone!
Chu Hao was lost in his thoughts, unaware of how long he had pondered when suddenly, a peculiar feeling surfaced in his heart. As he abruptly looked up, he saw that someone had appeared in the room without him noticing!
When he saw the person's appearance, it was as if he had been punched hard in the chest, and his breath stalled for a moment.
Such a beautiful woman!
This woman surely couldn't be older than 20, yet her figure was tall and slender, and her loose white dress could not conceal her exquisite form, exuding enticing allure. Her hair reached her waist, simply tied with a white silk ribbon, yet this simplicity did not lessen her charm in the slightest!
Her beauty was at its peak!
It wasn't just her beauty, she seemed like a celestial being aloof from the world, her delicate face glowing with a jade-like radiance, ethereal and unparalleled!
Chu Hao blinked, but the peerless beauty had already vanished. Just as a sense of strangeness arose in his heart, he felt a darkness before his eyes, and his consciousness was abruptly pulled away.
After an unknown amount of time, Chu Hao opened his eyes to see a sea of beautiful faces before him, and Flying Fire's pink tongue was licking at him. A shiver went through him and he snapped back to attention, sitting upright suddenly.
"Benefactor, are you alright? We didn't see you for a long while and searched everywhere for you. Finally, we found you lying here!" The women spoke one after another.
"It's nothing!" Chu Hao replied casually. He moved his body a bit and indeed felt fine. He asked, "Did any of you see a woman in white clothing?"
"No!" The women all shook their heads. Bandits tended to like flamboyant and enchanting types, making them wear thick makeup and colorful clothing; not a single one wore white clothes.
Could it have been a trick of the eye?
Chu Hao panicked, then remembered the jade box. He quickly asked, "When you found me, did you see a jade box on the ground?"
"No!" "No!" The women shook their heads in unison.
Chu Hao got up and looked again in the previous chest, finding that nothing else was missing except the jade box.
It seemed it was not his imagination—the lady in white was real! And she had taken only the jade box. Did that mean she knew the value of the box and how to open it?
Chu Hao's curiosity piqued, wondering what exactly was hidden inside the jade box?
He gasped suddenly and quickly looked at his hands, relieved to find the Mustard Seed Ring still there. He said to the women, "The gold and jewels in this chest are yours now, divide them among yourselves... It's getting late, stay here for the night, burn down this bandit lair tomorrow, and then each of you can return home!"
After he finished speaking, he swiftly made his exit, not wanting the women to get so overwhelmed they'd start crying; he dreaded seeing tears in women's eyes.
Going into a corner, he took out the Star Stone and channeled Star Force into the Mustard Seed Ring. As the two made contact, his consciousness immediately entered the space within the Mustard Seed Ring.
Huh!
Chu Hao was startled to find that nothing was missing in the Mustard Seed Ring; in fact, there were two additional items!
A Jade Vase plus a piece of paper.
With a thought, he took both items out.
"Taking your belonging rashly, I gift two Earth Origin Pills as compensation. Should fate allow us to meet again, I shall offer thanks," read the few lines on the paper, signed with the character "Su." Whether it was the family name or part of a given name containing "Su," was unclear.
The handwriting was graceful and elegant, undoubtedly from a woman's hand.
It must have been that extraordinary woman in white.
