Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Squeezing Every Last Drop of Blood
Yolanda Greenwood couldn't wait to get downstairs and leave the house.
Yesterday afternoon, only her mother Eliana Reed had been to the house, and that glass of water must have been left by Eliana Reed.
She had to go back and confirm this.
Yolanda Greenwood took a taxi straight to the Greenwood Family, but she never expected to run into Cooper Coldson at the Greenwood Family's doorstep.
Cooper Coldson looked at her with even more disdain.
The servant glanced at the two of them and obsequiously complimented, "Miss and young master Cooper have such a good relationship, coming back together."
Yolanda Greenwood kept her head down, knowing that Cooper Coldson must have misunderstood again.
Sure enough, as Cooper Coldson passed by her, he clenched his teeth and said, "You want a divorce and you have your mom call me over?"
"I didn't." Yolanda Greenwood whispered back, but couldn't help feeling a bit guilty.
Why would her mom suddenly call Cooper Coldson over?
Eliana Reed saw the two of them return together, a flash of surprise in her eyes, but she quickly returned to normal, warmly inviting Cooper Coldson inside.
"Cooper, come in. You've come so far, must be tiring, right?"
Completely ignoring Yolanda Greenwood at the door.
"Mom!" Yolanda Greenwood followed on her own, "Why did you call him over?"
"Shut up!" Eliana Reed glared at Yolanda Greenwood, then turned to Cooper Coldson with a smile, "If I had known she was coming back too, I wouldn't have called you over."
Cooper Coldson sat on the couch, looking at Yolanda Greenwood with derision.
Yolanda Greenwood knew she wasn't welcome, but she wasn't going to leave either. She wanted to see what Eliana Reed was up to.
She sat down on a nearby sofa.
Eliana Reed beat around the bush for a while before finally getting to the point.
With tears and snot, she admitted her mistake to Cooper Coldson, "Cooper, our Greenwood Family wronged you. If it weren't for Yolanda drugging you..."
Old grievances resurfaced, and on top of last night's events, Cooper Coldson's fists tightened instantly.
"Mom!" Yolanda Greenwood was even more aggrieved, "I've said it wasn't me back then. It's one thing for outsiders not to believe me, but you're my mom,how can you not believe me?"
"Shut up!" Eliana Reed looked frustrated as if Yolanda wasn't living up to expectations, "Don't I know my own daughter?"
Yolanda Greenwood's eyes immediately filled with tears.
Eliana Reed didn't stop there, "You've always been full of lies since you were little, lazy and gluttonous, and always jealous of Melissa's things, either stealing or snatching."
Yolanda Greenwood was truly stunned.
She always knew Eliana Reed favored her cousin, Melissa Greenwood, but she never realized she was seen as so worthless in Eliana Reed's eyes.
Was this really her own mother?
"Cooper, Yolanda did such an outrageous thing at Melissa's birthday party, we all feel very sorry."
Cooper Coldson glanced sideways, "But it was you who took Yolanda to the Coldson Family to force a marriage."
"..." Eliana Reed was taken aback, then cried and explained, "No matter what, Yolanda is my daughter, I was foolish and made a huge mistake out of love for her back then."
"A huge mistake?" Cooper Coldson raised an eyebrow slightly, seizing on the key point, "So what do you intend to do now?"
His gaze was frightening, sharper than a knife.
Eliana Reed panicked internally and then stuttered on, "Cooper, I heard Melissa is coming back to the country, divorce Yolanda."
Cooper Coldson stood up sharply.
Eliana Reed jumped, looking at him with dread.
Cooper Coldson turned to look at Yolanda Greenwood next to him.
Yolanda Greenwood sat there dumbfounded, everything that had happened in front of her completely overturned her understanding of Eliana Reed.
Admitting wrong?
The word "wrong" was never in Eliana Reed's dictionary.
Initiate a divorce from Cooper Coldson?
How could that be possible?
Just a year ago, at her cousin Melissa Greenwood's birthday party, Yolanda Greenwood somehow got involved with Melissa's fiancé, Cooper Coldson.
There were many people from their circles present, causing a scandal that rocked the entire town.
Melissa, unable to bear the humiliation, promptly called off the engagement with Cooper and left the country within days.
Yolanda herself felt too ashamed to face anyone, hiding at home, refusing to step outside.
But Eliana Reed stood cursing outside her door each day, calling her stupid beyond redemption for sleeping with someone for nothing and eventually dragged her to the Coldson Family, forcing Cooper to marry her.
The Coldson Family was one of the most prominent families, and the whole ordeal became public knowledge in their circles, leaving them no choice but to accept the match.
But throughout the year, how the Coldson Family treated Yolanda, and Cooper's attitude... Yolanda had mentioned wanting a divorce to Eliana multiple times, but every time it ended with Eliana erupting in anger, so Yolanda had to let it go.
Why had Eliana suddenly changed her mind? It was all too strange!
Cooper withdrew his gaze, looking down from above at Eliana, "If we were to divorce, how much money would be appropriate to give you?"
Eliana nearly laughed out loud. Was there such a stroke of luck?
Indeed, with the Coldson Family being so wealthy, it wouldn't be too much to ask for a share.
She weighed her options and named a figure she thought Cooper might accept, "One billion."
"Mom, you're insane!" As soon as Yolanda came to her senses, she knew everything was over.
Cooper's face went ice-cold, his gaze towards Yolanda filled with unprecedented fury, his words through gritted teeth, "I think the insane one is you."
As expected, Cooper saw the entire situation as a scheme by mother and daughter for money.
"Yolanda, listen well, you can have your divorce, but as for money, you won't get a cent." After dropping those words, Cooper left without looking back.
Yolanda couldn't stand it anymore. What was she in her mother's eyes? A utility person to be squeezed dry, even in divorce?
"Mom! Why did you ask Cooper for money? Why?"
And to ask for one billion?
In Cooper's eyes, let alone one billion, she, Yolanda Greenwood, probably wasn't worth a dime.
"Is it wrong for me to want money?" Once Cooper left, Eliana straightened back up.
"No matter what, you've been married to him for a year, served him for a year, slept with him for a year, isn't it rightful to get some money?"
She utterly disregarded Yolanda's shattered expression.
"If you ask me, you're the useless one. With all the money Cooper Coldson has, he's not even willing to give you one billion."
At this moment, Yolanda's tears had run dry, "Mom, you're right, I am useless. I've been married for a year and Cooper never touched me."
"What?" Eliana's expression became odd, starting with surprise and then seeming somewhat gleeful about the calamity.
Not a hint of compassion for her daughter.
"But the most useless thing is, having you as a mother." Yolanda grabbed her purse and turned to follow Cooper out.
She wanted to make it clear to Cooper that she had never thought of taking his money; she only wanted to return him to Melissa.
Behind her, Eliana's scolding continued.
"Good, you ungrateful wretch, think you're grown wings?"
"Don't want to acknowledge your mother? I don't want a useless daughter like you anyway!"
"If you dare, never come back for the rest of your life."
Yolanda rushed to the gate in one breath, just as Cooper's car was starting.
It was too late.
She ran headlong in front of the car, intending to stop it.
The moment Cooper stepped on the accelerator, he saw a dark figure flash by.
Then there was a loud "bang".
