“‘Chosen?’ I said, looking over at Falfiar.

‘That’s the best way to describe them. I’m really not sure what else there is to say. The gods have chosen…chosen, and now they’re planning to send emissaries to impose their rule.’

‘Emissaries to impose their rule? Elaborate.’

‘ Uh, right, about that,’ Falfiar said, avoiding eye contact and scratching his neck. ‘The…chosen are claiming that the gods have given them absolute authority, and they mean to seize every kingdom under themselves, including us. The emissary is meant to deliver the message, although they won’t be here for a month or longer.’

‘Divine right to rule…that’s a new one. Regardless, they’re mad if they think to claim us as subsidiaries of themselves, and if they make the wrong move, I’ll deal with them myself.’

‘Are you sure? I wasn’t able to get exact details, but it sounds like the chosen are vessels for the gods might. They might be a handful, even for you.’

‘It doesn’t matter. They have no right to make such demands, not even by a god's calling.’

Falfiar smiled, a mischievous grin spreading across his face, ‘In that case, when are we going?”
