Chapter 91 - 91 Promise Me We Won’t Become Strangers
91 Promise Me We Won’t Become Strangers
“Then I guess I’m lucky.” Yan Jingshun smiled faintly.
However, there was no love in his eyes.
Lin Jiao smiled but did not say anything.
She waited for the first plate of caviar to be served before eating the bread with it.
“Wait a minute,” Yan Jingshun suddenly said.
He stared at the bread in her hand. “This is an ornament. Just scoop up the caviar and eat it.”
“This piece of bread isn’t poisonous, is it?”
“But it doesn’t taste good if you eat like this.”
Lin Jiao took a deep breath.
She ate half of the bread in front of him before picking up the spoon and slowly scooping up the caviar.
“Don’t eat it directly.”
“Why?”
Seeing that she did not understand, Yan Jingshun explained patiently, “It’s best to put the caviar between your thumb and index finger and wait for it to emit a fragrance before taking a bite. Only then can you taste the freshness.”
“I think it’s better to eat it directly.” Lin Jiao did not do as he said. “Everyone has a different way of doing things, right?”
Only then did Yan Jingshun realize that it might not be appropriate for him to ask others to do what he thought was right.
He watched her eat the caviar and suppress his displeasure. He pushed the salmon forward again. “Are you used to dipping it in vinegar?”
“Not at all.”
The more Lin Jiao ate, the less appetite she had.
If not for the fact that he knew Pei Yilan, she would have left long ago.
“Can I ask you a question?” Yan Jingshun did not notice the change in her mood and chatted with her like before.
“What?”
“How many times have you been in love before?”
“Once.” Lin Jiao swallowed a piece of salmon and asked him the same question. “What about you?”
“The truth?”
“You can lie if you want.”
“The truth is three times.” Yan Jingshun did not intend to lie. After a pause, he continued, “The lie is not even once.”
“Three times isn’t a lot.”
“Yes, I haven’t met my true love yet.”
“Your exes aren’t your true love?”
“Not really,” he said objectively. “They’re not on the same page as me and we got into conflicts a lot.”
“I see,” Lin Jiao replied indifferently.
She continued to listen to him talk about his previous relationship. When he put down his chopsticks, she picked up her phone and said, “It’s about time I go back to the company.”
“I’ll go with you.” Yan Jingshun felt that this meeting was quite pleasant. Of course, he wanted to spend more time with her.
Stepping on the fallen leaves, he sent her to Sheng Heng Corp and asked softly, “Shall we go to a concert this Saturday?”
“Sorry, I have a gathering with my friends.”
“What about next week?”
“I can’t say for certain yet about next week.” Lin Jiao looked at her phone to check the time, looking like she was very busy.
She looked up. “I’ll contact you then.”
Yan Jingshun looked into her eyes for a few seconds, his eyes gentle as if he was looking at his future girlfriend. “Don’t make me wait too long, okay?”
“Okay.” Lin Jiao turned around with a smile.
The moment she stepped into the elevator, the smile on her face disappeared, and she was so tired that she rubbed her eyebrows.
Pei Zhi: “Are you coming up to rest?”
After receiving this message, she pressed the elevator button on the top floor without hesitation and walked to the CEO’s office.
Pei Zhi sent this WeChat message out of concern, but he did not expect to receive another ‘surprise’.
He poured a glass of warm water and handed it to her. “So although he said he would let you order, he actually chose something he liked?”
Lin Jiao replied softly, “He never thought of asking for my opinion from the beginning, including this meeting.”
Facing such a ‘love rival’, Pei Zhi couldn’t be bothered to be jealous. He said calmly, “Given his personality, he’s not suitable for you.”
“I think so too.”
“Are you still hungry? I’ll order takeout for you.”
“I’m not hungry now.” Lin Jiao took off her high heels and changed into the slippers he had prepared for her. “I’ll go in and sleep for a while.”
Pei Zhi followed her into the lounge.
He covered her with the blanket and placed the thermos on the round table beside her so that she could drink when she woke up.
“Should I call you five minutes before lunch break finishes?”
“Three minutes.”
Lin Jiao wanted to stick to the bed.
She wrapped herself in the blanket and turned over lazily. “See you later, Uncle.”
“See you.” Pei Zhi closed the door.
He returned to his desk and ordered two boxes of desserts for her.
When she woke up, the takeout had just arrived.
Lin Jiao ran downstairs with the boxes.
From then on, she would go to his lounge to sleep at noon every day for an entire week.
On Friday, when Pei Zhi drove her home, he was already nervous.
He glanced at her and tightened and relaxed his grip on the steering wheel. “Jiaojiao, I can’t pick you up tomorrow.”
“Are you still going to the gathering in the evening?”
“Of course.” How could he confess if he didn’t go?
Lin Jiao did not catch the emotions in his eyes.
As usual, she stood outside the door and smiled at him. “See you tomorrow.”
“Jiaojiao.” Pei Zhi stopped her before she could turn around.
He thought for a moment and mustered up the courage to say, “No matter what happens, promise me we won’t become strangers, okay?”
“What’s going on?” Lin Jiao bent down and looked at him suspiciously.
“Nothing.”
Pei Zhi was not sure if she would accept his feelings and was eager to leave a way out.
He met her gaze. “Answer me first.”
“I promise.”
Under his expectant gaze, Lin Jiao said word by word, “No matter what happens, we won’t become strangers.”
“Remember this.” Pei Zhi gulped, “You can’t lie to me.”
“I won’t.”
“You can’t go back on your word.”
Lin Jiao did not know why he was so strange, but she still replied seriously, “I won’t go back on my word.”
Pei Zhi heaved a sigh of relief after getting her promise.
“Jiaojiao, I’m leaving.”
“Okay.” Lin Jiao looked in the direction where the car disappeared.
She walked along the stone path to the building. Before she could enter, she was stopped by a female voice.
“Miss Lin.” Su Tian looked at that beautiful face and felt consumed by jealousy.
She clenched her fists and smiled innocently. “Do you have time to talk to me?”
“I don’t have time.”
“Then I’ll keep coming until you have time. How does that sound?”
Lin Jiao did not expect her to be so persistent.
She rubbed the strap of her handbag and said calmly, “What do you wanna say?”
“It might not be convenient to talk here.” Su Tian raised her chin at the residents coming in and out. “Can we please find somewhere else?”
Lin Jiao followed her to a nearby cafe.
She sat at the square table and casually looked at the furnishings in the private room, looking like she didn’t intend to speak first.
She had the patience to wait, but Su Tian did not.
“Miss Lin.” She looked into Lin Jiao’s eyes and pretended to be friendly. “You’ve broken up with Quan for a while, right?”
