Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1468: Roulette

Their conversation dragged on, especially after Alexia decided to show off her and Louis's engagement rings. For Adam and Silvana, it was not just a source of envy, but also a natural shock.

However, in the heat of the discussion about the long break between meetings, they completely forgot that they were not alone at the gaming table. All the guests had already placed their bets, and the croupier was staring intently at them. He was ready to spin the roulette wheel, but before that, they had to place their bets or skip their turn.

"Ahem, esteemed guests, will you be placing a bet on this round?" The man coughed, hoping that at least this would get their attention.

Adam and Silvana turned around as they nodded guiltily. Alexia, for her part, showed no sign of embarrassment for making everyone else wait, because she wasn't.

"Alright, enough grumbling, we just haven't seen this couple in love in a long time!"

Then, Alexia picked up a black chip and placed it on the red spot.

"100,000 credits on red!" Alexia exclaimed, causing some of the guests to gasp.

Unlike the yellow chips that Adam and Silvana had, which were worth 100 credits each, the one Alexia used was the highest denomination, namely 1 chip = 100K credits.

"Damn, now I understand how you lost 1.5 million. How can you bet such large amounts and not think about the consequences?" Adam shook his head, showing everyone that this was extremely reckless.

Sure, Adam often acted recklessly himself, but that happened in the heat of battle when his adrenaline was at its peak.

Well, also, during a fight against dangerous opponents, Adam behaved like a gambling addict who had come to a casino. He couldn't stop until he won. That was all that mattered to him, and nothing else.

"Adam," Silvana whispered, glancing at the dozen guests who were staring at him intently. "You have to place your bet. This... This has gotten too awkward too quickly."

"Yeah, well..." Adam glanced at their chips and shrugged.

Tap!

He hit the black spot with a stack of ten yellow chips.

"1,000 credits on black!" Adam said confidently, and the croupier nodded. After a long pause, he could finally return to his duties and continue the game.

He wanted at least one of them to win, and it was quite a large bet considering they only had 9,500 credits.

"Good, all bets are in," the croupier said, waved the roulette wheel, and deftly threw the ball.

Then, silence fell as everyone watched intently as the ball moved.

Whether it was a simple person or a Phantom, it was almost impossible to determine exactly where the ball would land.

It wasn't just that it took a split second to calculate the force of the throw and the speed at which the roulette wheel was spinning, but also that all the equipment in this casino was top-notch.

In older casinos, many roulette wheels lost their balance over time, which meant that even if the croupier did everything right, one number could come up slightly more often than others.

Some people specifically chose old casinos with worn-out equipment and calculated which number the ball fell on more often than the others.

Thus, through observation, calculation, and patience, some people managed to beat the casino, winning large sums at roulette, seemingly against all odds.

In modern casinos, especially high-end ones like this, that was impossible. The roulette wheel was super stable, and its speed was always chosen randomly after the croupier spun it, using pistons installed underneath.

So, even if the croupier had been a robot or someone like Damien, none of them could have thrown the ball so that it landed on the number they wanted.

Alexia, Louis, Silvana, Adam, and the guests could only watch as the ball moved from one pocket to another.

Some were silent, some quickly went from joy to anger and back again.

Even the croupier was slightly nervous because he knew that with each throw, someone would lose millions and someone else would win about the same amount.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

After a few seconds, the wheel slowed down as the ball lost all its momentum. At the last moment, the ball moved from the red pocket to the black one.

The croupier nodded deeply and pointed to the ball so that everyone could see the result of this spin.

"Black 21!" he announced.

"YES!"

Immediately, several people rejoiced, while others crossed their arms irritably across their chests.

Moreover, among them was one particularly lucky person:

"Hell yeah! I knew 21 was my lucky number!" The young man exclaimed joyfully, unable to contain his emotions.

Unlike most people who bet on either black or red, he decided to take a riskier approach and bet on a number. It was a classic move for those who preferred high-risk/high-reward play.

"SHIT!" Alexia exclaimed as she raised her fist, ready to slam it on the table.

At the last moment, Louis stopped her by grabbing her wrist. He didn't want her blow to break the table they were playing at. In that case, he would have to apologize and do paperwork, which was not what he needed.

"Hah, Alexia, have you thought about changing the game?" Adam grinned as he collected his winnings.

He bet 10 yellow chips, which were equal to 1,000 credits. He won, so he received two orange chips, which were equal to 2,000 credits.

With one correct bet, he was able to double it, but now the most important thing was not to bet everything he had won.

On his part, it would be right to bet a maximum of 1,000 credits next time, because if he risked 2,000 and lost, he would lose everything in one go.

"Pfffft! You only won 2,000! That's nothing!" Alexia snorted.

Adam shrugged, looking at his chips.

"Well, maybe it's a small amount, but I came with 10,000, and now I have 11,500. What about you, huh?"

In response, Alexia stuck out her tongue.

"Again! I have a lot of money! I want more!"

Adam and Silvana exchanged glances. They didn't mind continuing, at least until it was time to move on to the next game.
