Empire of the Unseen

Chapter 13: The Oyabun’s Paranoia

The Oyabun's Paranoia

The Oyabun had noticed the shift in his organization. Whispers of dissent had reached his ears, and he began to suspect Hajime's growing influence.

In a private meeting with his trusted enforcer, the Oyabun revealed his concerns. "Hajime has ambition," he said. "Ambition unchecked leads to betrayal. Keep an eye on him."

The enforcer nodded but knew it wouldn't be so simple. Hajime was not only powerful but also cunning.

Meanwhile, Hajime intensified his efforts to consolidate power. Through intimidation, bribery, and sheer charisma, he brought key members of the Yakuza under his control. Each one believed Hajime's promises of a brighter, stronger future under his rule

The Heroes' Counterattack

The massacre of the tech company heroes had sent shockwaves through the city. Vanguard, now leading an elite team, launched a coordinated strike against Yakuza operations.

Hajime, informed of the attack, allowed it to play out. He watched from the shadows as the heroes dismantled minor assets, using the chaos to further his own plans.

Renji, however, was less patient. "They're tearing us apart!" he exclaimed.

Hajime's voice was calm. "Let them. Their desperation exposes their tactics. Soon, they'll overreach."

When Vanguard and his team finally targeted one of Hajime's strongholds, they found nothing but a trap—a building rigged to collapse. The heroes narrowly escaped, but the message was clear: Hajime was always one step ahead.
