"I want you to be my friend," Daenys said with a smile.

A complicated expression appeared on Selene's face.

She twirled around, checking herself out.

She didn't think there was anything on her that screamed 'be my friend'; she already had enough trouble with Seris.

"I haven't even asked my second question, and I already have more," Selene said, exasperated.

"My right eye has never failed me, and it wants you as a friend," Daenys said with an excited expression, her right eye faintly glowing red.

"Is that so?" Selene said with a raised brow.

"Yes", Daenys replied without hesitation.

"Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but it's not quite mutual," Selene replied.

"You shouldn't be so quick to decide, you haven't gotten to know me," Daenys said with a smile.

"On the contrary, I believe that's a perfectly good reason," Selene replied.

Daenys just shrugged, the smile still on her face.

"Secondly, what makes you so sure you'll come out victorious?" Selene asked, her mana flaring faintly.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you," Daenys said with a chuckle.

"Do what?" Selene asked with a smirk

"I might be hesitant to defeat you, but that doesn't mean I won't. I'm not one to turn down a challenge." Daenys replied, her own mana flaring in response.

Selene just stared at her, her gaze unflinching.

As much as she believed she could take Daenys, she knew it wouldn't be worth it. The points she'd gain might temporarily boost her in the rankings, but it'd come at the cost of injury.

She was sure she wouldn't come out unscathed if they went at it, and the prospect of appearing in the rankings wasn't very enticing to her.

All she wanted was to assist Orion while being high enough not to disappoint him, and fighting Daenys wouldn't really help.

She was lucky enough that the other party also wasn't interested in fighting; running away would have been a pain.

Despite how much it'd hurt her pride, she had to concede. Besides, looking on the bright side, Daenys might eventually end up being useful to Orion in the long run; eliminating someone this competent might affect them later on.

"Tsk," Selene clicked her tongue and turned around.

"Try not to get yourself eliminated." She said, walking away.

'It'd be a waste.' She thought.

"You're just leaving?" Daenys asked with a pout, trailing after Selene.

"Yes," Selene replied simply.

"That's boring," Daenys said.

"I'm not sure if you've noticed, but we're not exactly having a playdate now," Selene replied, increasing her pace.

Daenys just chuckled.

"I thought for sure you'd want to fight," Daenys said, keeping up with her.

"Well, you didn't want to, and neither did I", Selene replied.

"Ohhh, but we could have still fought or sparred." Daenys quipped.

"And why would we do that?" Selene asked with a questioning gaze.

"To get to know each other," Daenys replied.

Selene stopped and turned to her with an exasperated expression before sighing and moving on.

"Look, I get you want to be my friend, but this is neither the time nor the place to start or do this. Besides, I believe you were competing at the top of the rankings. How do you have the time to be sparring?" Selene asked.

"Ohh, please, those guys at the top can compete for all I care about. When we get to the centre, I'll just beat them and get their points." Daenys said matter-of-factly.

Selene just chuckled. "Is that so?" She asked.

"That is so. You don't have to worry." Daenys replied.

"Wait a minute. Is that why you're in a hurry?" Daenys asked.

"If that's the reason. I can just share the points I get at the centre with you." Daenys said with a smug expression.

"And why would you do that for me?" Selene asked.

"Isn't that what friends do?" Daenys asked with a raised brow.

Selene just glanced at her before facing forward.

Despite how arrogant or ignorant Daenys sounded, Selene could tell she was just simply mindlessly innocent.

'Oh well, might as well humour her.' Selene thought.

"How many friends do you have now?" Selene asked.

"Just two," Daenys replied.

Selene frowned.

'That's a small number for someone who seeks approval from their right eye, ' She thought.

"Am I part of these two?" Selene asked.

"Yes, you are," Daenys replied.

"That's a small number of friends." Selene quipped.

Daenys chuckled.

"My eye is very picky." She said with a smirk.

"I guess it's an honour to be among the selected," Selene said with a small smile.

A few minutes later, they encountered another group of four. Selene watched them from afar, preparing to ambush them.

"Do you need help?" Daenys asked beside her.

Selene turned to her with a raised brow.

"Don't worry, I won't share the points with you; you can have them all. I'm good." Daenys said with a smile.

Now that made Selene feel guilty. Not because she was hesitant to share the points, but because of the confidence Daenys had in coming out on top.

But she just shrugged, ranking or not, as long as the girl passed the trial, she'd be cool.

"Thank you, but I'll be fine. I can take care of them." Selene refused the help.

"Are you sure. I don't want you to be eliminated." Daenys said with a frown.

"Do you really have so little confidence in me?" Selene said with a chuckle.

"Well-"

"I'll be fine." Selene interrupted.

"Alright. But if I see you having a tough time, I'll step in." Daenys said.

"I'm not going to take no for an answer." She said, placing her finger on Selene's lips.

"Fine." Selene conceded.

She still didn't completely trust Daenys; this could all be a trap, and she'd be damned to fall for it, but she highly doubted it; Daenys was too strong and arrogant to resort to something like that. Still, she'd keep her eyes peeled.
