Chapter 91: Selena's Dilemma

(A/N Big thanks to everyone for the Power stones and Golden tickets, they mean a lot. As usual, please don't hesitate to comment or drop a review. ENJOY)

---------------------------------

Selene had gone on an eliminating spree after taking care of the first senior, and her points had skyrocketed her to 5th position. Of course, most of her opponents had been weak, although she encountered a few difficult ones, but she had dealt with them effectively.

Although she had confidence in her strength, she had been careful when choosing her opponents. Luckily, she and Caelum had discovered a superficial method of testing a person's strength, and she had applied it a lot of times.

Of course, all this had a basis; her main duty was assisting Orion after all. She had designed the best way to do so.

She had initially intended to find Orion and assist him in accumulating points, but Orion and Caelum's statement before they transferred, ' For them to come out on top,' came to mind, and she realised she couldn't lag too far behind.

If she found Orion too early, she knew herself, she'd be dead set on helping him at her own expense, and she doubted Orion would support that.

So her next best plan was to accumulate a large number of points, enough to keep her in the rankings long enough to find Orion.

When she saw herself in 5th, she checked for Orion and found him in 1st. She smiled and immediately stopped her points spree in search of him.

Although not as good as Orion, she and Caelum had mastered the discernment of mana signatures, and they'd done their best to commit that of Orion's to mind.

She had changed directions a lot of times before deciding to head inward because of the safe zone.

She was resting when she encountered Robert's group, four of them.

They had seemed so confident, and her already piled-up tension and irritation of not finding Orion had led to her disciplining them.

She was about to take their stones when Robert made the offer.

She had initially thought of refusing, but considering she currently held a high rank and her methods of finding Orion weren't working, she changed her mind.

Travelling with a group was sure to stand out; maybe Orion would be drawn by their size, and then she could join him and they could take out the group together.

She smiled at her thoughts and agreed to follow them.

She assisted them in accumulating points, fully aware they would be for Orion at the end of the day.

When they finished taking care of the duo and were about to leave.

She took out her sigil stone and checked her rank, finding herself in 12th.

She frowned.

She had gotten too low in the ranks, and she hadn't been successful in finding Orion.

'It's time to leave,' she thought with a sigh.

She moved closer to Robert.

"I'm leaving, Robert," she said, her tone steady.

Robert's eyes widened in surprise, his expression turning hesitant. Panic was clear in his eyes.

Although he was wary of Selene, he was far more hesitant about her leaving; she'd been their cornerstone against danger.

Now that they were moving deeper, the higher the danger they'd been facing. It had taken five of their members to take care of the recent duo.

"What!" He said, his voice coming out unexpectedly high-pitched.

"I'm leaving," Selene said again, unbothered by his surprise.

"I heard you the first time. Why? Are you dissatisfied with the point distribution?" He muttered with a frown, taking a step closer.

If that was the issue, he could try to work it out in her favour.

Selene frowned.

"I'm leaving, that's all. My reason is unnecessary." She stated, making Robert take a step back.

"If you're worried about the group, I already know your general direction. I'll come find you in an hour. Just try to stay safe till then." She said, her tone final.

Robert breathed a sigh of relief, although he was ashamed to be so reliant on someone younger than him; he had no choice, he knew how dangerous the final moments could be. If Selene could be with them, they had a higher chance.

Of course, for Selene, she was simply keeping an eye on the points she'd helped farm; she couldn't just lose them after all.

All she had to do was go grind for the next hour and regain her position before returning to them.

"If possible, if you find a shrine, just stay there and farm points and move when the zone starts shrinking." She added.

Robert nodded, but deep down, he was hesitant to employ such a method; it'd attract too many questions from the group and the change of strategy when Selene leaves was enough to piece things together.

"Good", Selene said simply before exploding off the ground, heading in a different direction. Her speed caught Robert off guard.

He just clenched his fist, his own weakness a thorn in his mind.

Selene surged deeper, her figure blurring among the trees.

She hadn't gotten very far when her senses picked up another presence, alone.

'Strong, ' She thought.

Being alone at this stage meant you were either very capable or very lucky; she was counting on the former.

She soon encountered her target. A blond-haired male.

As soon as she arrived, his gaze snapped towards her, and his expression laced with tension.

'Let's do this, ' She thought inwardly before surging towards him.

She exchanged up to fifty blows with him within a minute, and surprisingly, the boy had managed to keep up.

If her former group had encountered him, they would have taken a while to deal with him.

She stepped up her game and was soon merging another sigil stone with hers.

She moved again, taking down foe after foe, yet she could tell she was starting to become fatigued; the opponents were getting tougher.

She merged a new stone while crouching and was about to stand up when she felt something, and Kairos stepped away.

BOOM!!
