Chapter 352: Chapter 352: Deal Or No Deal?
"Haa, yes indeed; I wasn't able to overcome the Heavenly Tribulation; that ninth lightning is something terrifying." Said Scholarly-Demon with a slight nod as he gazed at the three before looking at the sky, causing them to do the same.
"Oh, trust us, we know." Muttered Elif lightly as he summoned his Quạt tay and fanned himself while Illumia and Sarah nodded in agreement.
"Anyway, mind explaining why we're in your hidden abode?" Asked Elif curiously as he glanced at the Scholarly Demon, who looked at him before nodding.
"Well, it's rather simple, really. In case I didn't survive the heavenly Tribulation, I had gathered everything I owned and placed it in this abode so that one day, perhaps a lucky cultivator could come and continue my legacy." Replied Scholarly Demon as he turned around and gently waved his arm, gesturing to the abode they currently resided in.
"I figured as much, but I'm surprised you haven't found a successor as of yet; it's been many generations since your passing, and who knows how many other entrances you have littered across the OverRealm." Said Elif lightly with a nod as he gazed at Scholarly Demon, who shook his head.
"You'd be surprised at how many hidden abodes of Legendary figures have yet to be discovered, let alone one that has found a successor. Speaking of Legendary Figures, has the Chaos Lord's Hidden Abode been found?" Remarked Scholarly Demon calmly with a faint smirk as he glanced at Elif, who nodded, not doubting his words, only for him to furrow his brows in curiosity.
"Chaos Lord? First time I heard someone actually mention him… No, the Chaos Lord's Inheritance has yet to be found, though I'm surprised he has one in the first place; did he not go insane from the numerous souls he absorbed after he got his revenge?" Stated Elif with a raised eyebrow before shaking his head, only to curiously glance at Scholarly Demon, who nodded.
"Yes, he did. However, before he got his revenge, he foresaw his future and created a hidden abode where he left everything for his successor." Replied Scholarly Demon, his words causing Elif and Illumia to frown slightly while Sarah just tilted her head in confusion.
"…I'm not one hundred percent sure, but I believe he may have perfected the Chaotic Scripture." Stated Scholarly Demon softly, his words causing Illumia and Elif's eyes to widen while their expressions turned solemn.
"Perfected the Chaotic Scripture?" Asked Illumia with a deep frown as she looked at the Scholarly Demon, who faintly nodded.
"So you're saying the Chaos Lord managed to reach such strength with an imperfect cultivation technique? I could only imagine how powerful the perfected version would be… Could it be stronger than the Elven Royal Cultivation technique?" Asked Elif with a frown as he narrowed his eyes at Scholarly Demon, who nodded, causing him to forcefully shut his Quạt tay.
"Um, i-is the Chaotic Scripture bad?" Asked Sarah softly as she glanced between the three, causing Elif to sigh and Illumia's face to twitch while Scholarly-Demon chuckled.
"Sarah, when we return to the Realm Sect, please read some books on history." Replied Elif with a sigh as he rubbed his face while looking at Sarah, who softly blushed and nodded.
"Now then, about the Chaotic Scripture…" Said Elif as he shifted his focus to Scholarly Demon, who shook his head.
"Your concern is understandable, but it's mostly unneeded; the perfected version merely eliminates the chance of the souls you've consumed to take you over. Of course, that's at the cost of taking longer to properly refine them, so if anything, the Perfected version is a tad bit weaker, but overall, the one who uses it will not need to worry about their future self being consumed with madness." Declared Scholarly Demon, his words causing Illumia and Elif to sigh in relief while he opened his Quạt tay.
"That's much better than I expected." Muttered Illumia softly as she nodded while gently patting her chest.
"Now I know you're the Scholarly Demon, but to know so much detail about the Chaotic Scripture is highly suspicious, especially since most people will take the knowledge of their cultivation technique to the grave with them." Stated Elif with a slight frown as he suspiciously eyed Scholarly Demon, who merely raised an eyebrow.
"He also happened to pay me a visit and asked for my assistance in perfecting his cultivation technique, which I assisted in; however, before we could perfect it, he was forced to leave as his time was dwindling. That is why I'm unsure whether he managed to perfect it." Remarked Scholarly Demon, causing Elif to click his tongue while Illumia rubbed the bridge of her nose.
"Of course you did." Muttered Elif in annoyance as he eyed Scholarly Demon, who simply chuckled in amusement.
While annoying, the fact we learned such critical information was incredibly important; even if the Chaotic scripture wasn't perfected, there didn't need to be another Chaos Lord, which is why we have his imperfect cultivation technique in the Royal Library.
'However, how will we find his hidden abode? It's been hidden for so long, and there is no way I will just so happen to stumble across it; I will need to know where it is.' Thought Elif with a deep frown and a thoughtful expression as he gently fanned himself, only for the Scholarly Demon to suddenly smirk.
"I can see you don't hold much desire to attain my inheritance, young Elf." Said Scholarly Demon as he stared at Elif, who blankly glanced at him before nodding.
"I'm sure you have some valuable items, but to be honest, none of that really stirs my enthusiasm; I simply came out here to enjoy myself a little, not to explore a hidden abode." Remarked Elif blandly as he looked at Scholarly Demon, who nodded with a smirk.
"Understandable, you're the descendant of the Immortal Elven Empire, not to mention your Immortal Will, high-Immortal spirit root, and physique; I wouldn't be all that interested in an old geezer's inheritance. However, I do have something that would probably interest you." Stated Scholarly Demon with a smirk, his words causing Elif to furrow his brows as he paid attention.
"You see, in return for helping the Chaos Lord, I requested a key to his Hidden Abode. Normally, you'd only get this if you managed to become my successor but to be honest, I've got plenty of resources for one to even become a True God Emperor; the key isn't really needed." Added Scholarly Demon as he opened his palm, only for a blackish crystal with white lines to suddenly appear in his hand, causing Illumia and Elif to narrow their eyes.
Scoffing at his words, it was obvious he was trying to make some sort of deal, yet, as it was regarding the Chaos Lord and possibly his perfected Chaotic Scripture, I couldn't just ignore it.
"Hmph, so, what do you desire?" Asked Elif in slight annoyance as he stared at the Scholarly Demon, who faintly smirked before raising his other hand and pointing at him, specifically the purple mark on his forehead.
"During my time, there were very few things I didn't know, such as how to become an Immortal, what happens once one becomes an Immortal, is there perhaps a realm higher than ours? Questions like those plagued my mind; however, as no one else knew the answer to them, I was content with never unearthing them. Yet, I despised not knowing something someone else knew, and the only thing remaining was… The difference between an Elf and a Royal Elf." Declared Scholarly Demon calmly, only for his expression to turn sinister as he wickedly smiled, showing that even with all his knowledge, he was called a Demon for a reason.
I nearly outright denied him right then and there; a perfected Chaotic Scripture would be less than ideal, but the Elven Royal Empire was an Immortal hegemony, and I didn't think for a second the next Chaos Lord would be a serious threat to us. However, if the truth about the Elves were revealed to the public, it would do irreversible damage to our image and reputation, and nothing we do would ever be able to cover that up, not to mention the internal strife it would cause amongst the nobles when they learn they're not true Elves.
"Hehe, your refusal to tell me only further spurs my desire to know." Said Scholarly Demon with a massive grin as he stared deeply at Elif, while Sarah and Illumia did the same, awaiting his command.
It was highly unlikely such knowledge would get out even if I told Scholarly Demon; he was merely a vestige left by his former self and most likely was bound to his hidden abode, but whenever his successor came, he'd gain everything he left in his inheritance, which includes all of his knowledge, not to mention he'd be able to freely leave the dimension.
After several minutes of contemplating, I released a deep sigh before shaking my head, refusing his deal.
"No, I'll have to refuse your deal. That is something I suppose you'll just never get an answer to." Stated Elif solemnly, his words causing Scholarly-Demon to narrow his eyes while the entire dimension began to shake, prompting Illumia to protectively stand in front of him, yet in the end, nothing happened.
"I see. I clearly can't force you either, as I can sense an Immortal artifact on your body. Well then, since that's the case, you three can leave." Remarked Scholarly-Demon with a slight frown as he eyed Elif in annoyance before he waved his hand at them, causing them to vanish from the hidden abode.
