Chapter 32: Chapter 32: Maria's Wrath/ Volume 1 End!
"I hope Elif's heavenly tribulation isn't too powerful; I don't want him to get hurt." Said Maria holding Elaine as she watched Elif begin the process of breaking through to the Saint realm.
"So do I, dear, but you know how dangerous a heavenly tribulation can be, especially the last three attacks; those are the truly dangerous ones, however, we've all warned him and given him advice regarding the heavenly tribulation, so all we can do is to support him from the sidelines." Replied Marcus with his arms crossed while entirely focusing on Elif, who was on the giant altar.
"You worry too much; if things get too difficult, he can always activate the protection formations that are engraved on the Tribulation Altar." Mentioned Tiana, standing directly in the middle with Maria and Marcus on her left and Tyler and Illumia on her right.
What mother said was correct, but how can I not worry for my little Elif when he's about to experience his very first heavenly tribulation? Anyways, we stopped talking and went silent as we all watched how Elif easily broke through to the Saint realm. The moment Elif advanced to the Saint realm, he started wildly absorbing Qi into his body, and while the amount of Qi was incredibly minuscule to us, it was still a stunning sight to see a newly advanced Saint realm cultivator absorb that much Qi.
"Throughout my life, I've seen some talented cultivators with an unnaturally large Qi reserve, but they couldn't even compare to Elif's. I'd say Elif's Qi reserves are equal to that of an average Early Saint Lord realm cultivator!" Stated Tyler with a smile on his face.
Soon after Elif finished absorbing Qi, it began to darken as the skies above were quickly getting covered in dark clouds with rumbling and arcs of lighting appearing every now and then.
"It's about to begin." Muttered Marcus.
Elif eventually opened his eyes and got up from his meditating position, and the first thing he did was look up at the sky that was now completely covered in dark clouds with a diameter of over one hundred kilometers. Even from here, we could all sense the nervousness and excitement from Elif, though Elif's never been one to hide his emotions.
While waiting, the first phase of the heavenly tribulation began; seeing the first lightning bolt charge at Elif, we all watched how he attacked with a Royal Elf's Palm, and when the two attacks came in contact with each other, they both exploded.
We were all excited and happy at how Elif effortlessly destroyed the attack, but we were also nervous as well since the lightning bolt that aimed to strike down at Elif contained the power of an Early Saint Lord, an entire realm above Elif. Yet it was only heaven's arrival; heaven's descent will be far more violent and dangerous.
Time continued to pass by with the lighting attacks increasing in frequency, but even so, Elif managed to quickly destroy all the ones that would hit him and ignored all the others. However, eventually, the last attack was sent out, and there was peace for a little bit, but everyone here, excluding Elaine in my arms, knew that this was just a prelude to the second phase, heaven's descent.
Up in the sky, we saw the first tribulation lighting form in the dark clouds before launching itself at Elif, but it couldn't even make it halfway before Elif destroyed it with a Royal Elf's Palm.
'It was merely the first one, yet it already carried the power of a Late Saint Lord; this will be much more dangerous than we anticipated.' Thought Maria as she watched how Elif destroyed the second lighting attack with ease.
The third lightning attack posed a little more of a problem for Elif, but it still didn't manage to last long before it got destroyed; however, the dark clouds up above didn't give up and were already preparing for the fourth lightning tribulation.
When the next attack arrived near him, I watched how instead of attacking the fourth tribulation lighting with a palm attack, he gripped his sword with both hands and sliced it in half when it got close.
"That's highly reckless of him to do that." Said Tiana with a shake of her head.
I had to agree with mother on that, though father just laughed in response; sometimes he is really annoying; shaking my head, I focus back on Elif, who once again repeated the same attack he previously did; however, this time, he used his sword intent, but he didn't manage to entirely destroy it as some arcs of lighting zapped him.
Then we all saw his sword shine brightly before returning to normal, and while there were no physical changes, with our high cultivation base, we could all sense that Elif's sword had managed to advance to a heaven-grade weapon.
"That sword Elif picked out is quite something to have needed a lighting tribulation to advance." Commented Marcus.
"This isn't the time to think about that when our son is experiencing a Heavenly Tribulation!?" Replied Maria as she hit the back of his head.
Shaking my head from my husband's stupidity, we all focus on Elif, as now comes the most critical part of the Heavenly tribulation; the final three judgments. As the seventh lighting was forming, we could sense the power it contained was the same as a late Saint King cultivator, but when it launched itself at Elif, he attacked with his sword and performed Heavenly Scar, the technique he is most proficient in. When both attacks collided, they competed in a power struggle until Elif's attacks eventually overpowered and destroyed it.
Yet it didn't take long before the eighth lighting tribulation struck down at Elif; however, even when launching two Heavenly Scars, the lighting bolt managed to power through them and continue on its path toward Elif, though it had lost a good amount of energy from the previous clash, so Elif was able to slice it in half using his sword after having used a good amount of strength, sadly Elif had gotten some burn marks, and other injuries on his arms.
"Haa, at least his injuries aren't anything serious, though if the eighth lightning tribulation had the power of a peak Saint King, the ninth one would most likely have the power of an Early Saint Emperor." Announced Tiana seriously.
"That just means Elif is that talented, as have you ever heard of a heavenly tribulation striking down with the power of three entire realms above the cultivator attempting it?" Said Tyler with a big grin on his face as he looked up at the dark clouds that were in the middle of forming the final lighting tribulation.
Just as mother predicted, the final lighting tribulation struck down while radiating the power of an Early Saint Emperor, though Elif could sense its power. Hence, he performed his strongest Royal Elf's Palm, followed up by several Heavenly Scars; however, it wasn't enough as the lighting tribulation smashed through every technique he launched at it.
While he may not have been able to defeat the lighting tribulation, none of us were sad or disappointed as we watched how Elif gave everything he had to stop the attack, and that's all we could ask for, but unfortunately, he just fell short.
'Wait, why is he just standing there? Did something happen to him!?' Thought Maria and everyone else as they looked at Elif, who just stood there doing nothing while the lightning bolt was about to hit him.
I didn't know what was wrong with Elif but seeing him stand there, not activating the protection formation, worried me as I prepared to go and protect him, even if that meant I must go through a heavenly tribulation.
From a distance, we could see how his facial expression changed several times before morphing into a determined one while looking at the charging lighting bolt; when I saw that face, I knew what he was going to do, but I hoped I was wrong as that lighting bolt has the power to permanently wound or even kill him.
However, when I saw him tightly grip his sword and slash at the lightning bolt, I nearly had a heart attack; I watched how his clothes instantly got destroyed, his arms turned to charcoal, while the rest of his body got burned, but still even after all the pain and injuries he was sustaining Elif didn't once waver or back down, though I could feel my heart beating at an accelerated rate as I'm highly stressed from watching Elif.
Time felt like it was barely moving as I watched Elif struggle against the lighting tribulation, but I could tell that at this rate, Elif's body won't be able to last long and to make matters worse, I could sense the lighting attack regaining its full power.
'Dammit, Elif won't be able to hold on for much longer!' Thought Maria as she saw Elif's arms start shaking as if they were about to snap.
I was about to charge forth along with Marcus to protect Elif, but before we did, we suddenly sensed a pure and powerful intent surge out of Elif's body; we saw how it covered his entire body and gave him the strength needed to destroy the final lightning attack.
"Hahahaha-"
Before Marcus could move to catch Elif, who had collapsed, both mother and father had appeared just in time to catch him; they immediately disappeared along with Elif, though we quickly followed behind them and arrived in Doctor Lynda's office.
"My goodness! I was on standby in case the Prince was injured, but I didn't think it would be that disastrous!" Exclaimed Lynda when she saw the state of Elif before quickly operating on him when Tyler set him down on a bed.
"How bad is it!? It's not anything permanent, right!?" Asked Marcus as he waited for Lynda to give her evaluation of Elif.
"Luckily, no, nothing is permanent. Though he has been seriously injured, particularly his arms, they received the most damage; all the skin has been charred black, the bones are broken in multiple sections, and his muscles are like syrup. The rest of his body is in a better condition, but it isn't good either; eighty percent of his skin is burnt, his leg bones are fractured, and he has a broken hip." Said Lynda while working on Elif.
"Haa, how long will it take for him to heal fully?" Asked Maria feeling relieved that Elif received no severe damage from the heavenly tribulation, as even for an Immortal-level Empire, healing severe damage from a lighting tribulation is no walk in the park.
"I should be done with him within an hour; however, for him to fully heal, even with the best healing medicines, it'll take him at least two weeks, possibly three." Answered Lynda as she started poking his acupuncture while injecting special Qi into his body.
Hearing that, we all sighed in relief; however, now that I know my son will be alright, I'm no longer worried for him; I'm enraged at him for doing something so reckless; I'll make sure he receives a punishment of equal value.
'Hehe, don't worry, Elif, while you're injured, you'll be fine, but the moment you're fully healed, the punishment will begin!' Thought Maria as she looked at Elif's burnt face with angry eyes.
