Chapter 7: DISBELIEF
"Cheongnyeonghwa",she read the tag aloud, prompting Court lady Eunchae and Eun-ji to tilt their heads instinctively out of curiosity at the strange term.
Using the scissors from her embroidery kit Eun-ji provided, she ripped the seam of the tag made of hemp cloth, exposing the tightly folded paper fitted into the tiny body of the tag, a secret method royal physicians used to pass vital information, that could get them killed if it reached the wrong hands,as only very few knew about this method.
Taking out the folded paper, she unfolded it carefully not to tear its delicate edges.Done, her eyes read through the page thoroughly. Eun-ji had followed through with the Queen's action, and could tell something was wrong when her expression turned sour.
A gasp escaped her lips. Her hands covering her mouth as her chest rose and fell in quick swallowing breaths, as if struggling for air. Everything around her blurred as time slowed down, blocking out the sounds of worry from the two women in the room with her.
As if she had been programmed, her hands searched frantically for the paper which had somehow landed in the hands of Court Lady Eunchae. Snatching it away, she skimmed her eyes through the paper again.
"No.. No… No…"
Those repeated words escaped her mouth as thousands of thoughts flooded her head, but one continued to bug her.
"Who is behind this?"she thought to herself but somehow those words didn't make sense to her as it was nearly impossible for someone to force the drug on him or could the king be unaware he's taking a drug that could potentially end his life over a long term.
Fear gripped her for the unknown, taking a sharp intake of breath. The disbelief and shock jolting her system.
...…..
Eun-ji watched the Queen fall apart, a rare moment of vulnerability, she didn't have the right to witness, whatever was on that paper was dangerous. She never loathed herself more for being unable to read. She watched Lady Eunchae read it too, but it would be condescending of her to pry further, so she kept to herself as she watched the whole event unfold.
"Lady Eunchae, bring me Imperial seal of five, right now!" her words firm with urgency.
"Yes,your majesty", Lady Eunchae replied quickly as she exited the room to carry out the Queen's orders.
The Queen finally looked up at her,
she was quite shocked at the determination in the Queen's eyes.
"Get the palanquin prepared, we are going to set out immediately for Gangnyeonjeon, the king's Quarters.
Bowing Eun-ji left, leaving Seol Na to a quiet room which was disrupted by a loud bang as her clenched fist hit the table with abrupt force ,her anger evident, everything was slipping out of her control, she hated this feeling with her guts.
