Chapter 7: Birth

The next thing Axel could remember was a series of fragmented flashbacks: darkness, light, warmth, cold, and the desperate struggle for breath. Then, after what felt like an eternity, he began to make sense of his surroundings.
Axel was overwhelmed by a multitude of sensations, yet unable to comprehend them. Suddenly, a system message flashed before his eyes, a stark white text against a black background (I guess dark mode travelled with him to the new world).
[Error! Error! System Overload, Soul being rejected by the World, Permanent Memory Erasal recommended. Kindly Confirm if host would like to erase his memories to prevent damage to vessel]

Axel was terrified. His memories were all that defined him. How could he possibly erase them? Without hesitation, he chose to retain them at all costs.
[Permanent Damage to Host Vessel may occur in preserving the memories, action not recommended, future potential may be affected, Kindly Confirm for the Action]
Despite the dire warning, Axel confirmed his choice. He realized then how unreliable the old man had been. He vowed to teach that pompous old man a lesson, if given the chance.
[Memory Retention Successful, continual damages to the Host's vessel birthing process in progress]
Axel's next experience was akin to being a tiny seed, enveloped in darkness and warmth. He grew, pushed through the darkness, and emerged into a world of light and sound. Gentle hands lifted him, and he felt a surge of love. He was born.
Axel's small body ached, and a severe headache pulsed through his mind. It took all his willpower to remain conscious. Despite the pain, he was filled with excitement for the magical life that awaited him.
[Error! Error! Damage sustained in Host's Cerebral Structure, Damage sustained in Host's Spinal Cord, Damage in Host's...... ] A long list of damages appeared on the system. [Error! Error! damage sustained by System, Damages to Host's Body and brain are too great Host might die]
Just as Axel was born into this new world, his life was threatened. Another system message appeared: [System going into overdrive mode, exhausting Sentinel's authority and privileges to save the Host. Expected time: 4 years, Host might lose memories and normal brain function for the next 4 years. Normal System functions stopped. Overriding all system Objectives....... Deleting all system functions, Only one System Objective retained: Host's survival]
The pain intensified as the system struggled to keep him alive. Axel felt his body weakening, but before he could succumb, he lost consciousness.
When he awoke, he was no longer a newborn but a child of a few years. He couldn't recall the time between, as if his soul had rejected his body or his memories were too vast for a young mind. Yet, he was alive and conscious.
Axel was uncertain about his surroundings. Was there someone to care for him? Could he rely on anyone? He realized he was a few years old and someone must have been looking after him. This brought him comfort, but fear still lingered. He was unprepared for this new world, and what lay ahead could be terrifying and utterly alien.
He missed his life on Earth, chaotic as it was. He had people he cared about, people who cared about him.
Axel now in this new world was feeling lost, all was now a mystery to him and he was unable to use the one advantage that he had for the first four years of his life.
