Chapter 30: Chapter 31:Interlude 1.
If Leyndell's changes are incredible, Liurnia's are not far behind. The city at the foot of the academy, once flooded and destroyed, now stands again in its dispenser.
But that is not the only change, as the academy of Raya Lucaria is no longer under a barrier, causing the spell of
Under such magic, the city appears to be being bathed by a stellar river and makes the moon in the sky stand out even more, as if the whole thing is a beautiful painting.
"My little Ranni, what brings you here?"
Inside Raya Lucaria's academy, more exactly in the upper part, the place where Rennala is trapped and the library rests, the encounter between mother and daughter is taking place.
Without giving a second glance to the speaker, this person being the Rennala we all know, Ranni turns her face towards the strangely distorted library and begins to speak.
"I need to talk to you, mother. Face to face and now."
"Umm, you must know there are still fish outside the net... But what can I do if my little girl wants to talk to me."
The distorted space of the library seems to fold quickly, only to have Rennala's levitating figure laid bare.
The Queen of the Full Moon, dressed as she always is, in her elegant robes that symbolize her as the best sorceress of Raya Lucaria, her strange crown and light robes.
Behind her person, levitating as if she were a planet around her mother star, is the amber egg and her royal Carian scepter.
"Mother... You have changed."
"Change is inevitable, even more so for us who seek knowledge. To new knowledge, new challenges."
Blowing away the illusion she had seen as Ranni entered, she levitates up to that very spot and then, Rennala takes a seat in the very air.
"New knowledge does not render old knowledge obsolete, we could even say that the former is the basis for the latter."
"As much as it pains me to say it, there are times when it is better to let knowledge fall by the wayside and build new foundations."
Anyone would notice that they are not talking about "Knowledge", and that this word is only a cover for something else.
But who would have the courage to even attempt to question two of the greatest magicians, that is absolute madness and any sane person would know that.
"Let's leave those topics for later, I don't think you came to me for certain advice. Now then, what can I help you with?"
Accepting that this conversation isn't going anywhere, Rennala moves on to what is important and what has gotten Ranni here.
"I have noticed certain things... Strange movements. I want confirmation, one that you could give me by using your new eyes."
"I can connect the dots..."
Perhaps getting an idea about what Ranni is talking about, Rennala's expression terno would be, so that then a torrent of blue energy shines through the surroundings.
Not just any magic, but a secondary function of
"Can you see them?"
"No, the crypts are empty, the graveyards have ceased all movement and the graves have never been so silent."
While Ranni's doubts seem to have been answered, Rennala's expression becomes increasingly serious, the more she understands the current situation.
"How long have these abnormalities been going on?"
"About a week, but that's when it really became noticeable. Maybe it's been for two weeks or more."
Waving one of her four protean hands, Ranni moves through the magic of a few books. These add up one on top of the other, until they make a tower and chair.
Satisfied with the height achieved, she levitates to the top and takes a seat right there, giving no thought to Rennala's thoughts.
"Years of research used merely as a simple chair. With that small amount of time, nothing really serious can be accomplished."
"It's not just Liurnia, my spies have noticed the same problem in Leyndell, Necrolimbo, Caelid and even in the Farum Azula Lands. The worst is in the Nox cities."
Displaying his extensive spy network, Ranni seems to have the dial on the matter and how problematic it can become, if left alone.
"Such movements of the Deathborn... I seem to have something that speaks to that."
With a wave of a hand coming from Rennala, from one of the surrounding bookshelves flies a large old book.
It has a tattered leather cover, which seems to have the occasional stain of a black liquid, otherwise the pages look yellow in color and the written title is such as "Defects in the Golden Order, by Roger and D".
"It is somewhat unnecessary to go through those texts, I already have an idea of what it is all about. Its movements are guided by Godwin... No, it could be any being that has taken control of that body."
"No matter how strong the human soul is, such a thing can never adapt to a divine vessel."
Rennala does not dismiss Ranni's idea outright, but brings her point of view to the matter.
"I agree with you, but Queen Marika... She didn't have a few descendants."
"Impossible, unless... They weren't really born soulless, but they were trapped on the spiritual plane."
Joining the dots here and there, though perhaps being mere guesses, Rennala begins to form an idea of the real problem.
"Currently the spiritual plane is collapsing over the material, it wouldn't be out of the question and everything seems to be pointing that way."
"A right vessel, souls desiring a body and a great purpose... It's time to take this seriously."
Rennala's concern is not something to overlook, she has seen what Demigods can cause and it is not the most advisable thing to have one without supervision.
