Chapter 98: Secondary Examination
Late at night, the Blade of Dawn had a different scenery.
The moonlight rose and fell, and the path was deep and secluded. The curtain of night blurred the outline of things, turning everything into a painting that looked like a curtain of water and smoke. Alan and Adele walked in the direction of the student dormitory on the faint stone path. Alan was ahead, and Adele was a little behind. No one spoke, and the atmosphere was awkward.
Allen said at the meeting that she wanted to leave first, and Adele returned to the academy with him. But getting out of the car from the two of them, the last words of Allen made Adele very uncomfortable. This was the first time she felt that Alan was at a disadvantage in their relationship.
Growing up in the Morsons, Adele was accustomed to the tricks of the nobles. It was perfectly normal for them to use each other, and Adele would never have felt this way if it weren't for Ellen. Alan came from the surface and lived with the snow wolves. He had a deep-rooted concept of the werewolves' group and companions.
To exploit and betray was something that Allen could not accept. This was his bottom line and principle. Adele's use of him as a shield made him very uncomfortable and gave her a sense of guilt for the first time.
Seeing that the apartment was about to arrive, Adele could not help but shout, "Alan, wait a moment."
Alan stopped and turned to look at her. Adele sighed and said, "I'm sorry, I didn't do it on purpose. It's just that I know that if I told you Leon would propose to me tonight, you wouldn't want to go with me, would you?"
"I don't know. But I'm sure that if you tell me the truth, I will seriously consider it." Alan shook his head. "It's a pity you chose to hide it. You can't even try to trust me. Adele, I don't know what you think of a friend. But if it was me, I would believe him. If I agreed that he was my friend."
"Of course, I don't have many friends," Ellen said, spreading her hands.
"Then do you think I'm your friend?" Asked Adele.
"You know the answer yourself, don't you?"
Adele smiled grimly, "Alan, you may not understand, but it is not a good thing to be born into a noble family." I'm not groaning without illness. That's right, in terms of material things, the clan has given me no worries about food and clothing. But from the beginning, I didn't dare to believe anyone, including my own parents. That's really tiring, so I want to go to the Outer Realm Battlefield. "Even facing the Corpse Mountain and Sea of Blood, it's better than constantly scheming against others or being schemed against by others every day."
"I don't know if I'll believe it, but I'll try … to trust you. Of course, if I let you use it one day, I'll treat it as … we're even." When Adele said those words, she seemed to have returned to her usual charm. She waved her hand, turned around and left, quickly disappearing into the night.
Alan took a deep breath and muttered, "Friend, friend …"
He turned around and walked towards the apartment. He had decided to forget about tonight's unhappiness. Alan could hold a world, how could he not even hold an Adele?
The next few days were back on track, and Allen's time was filled with knowledge and training. After entering the beginner course, he added a number of subjects to his curriculum, including cryptography. Heaven knew if the knowledge of passwords would be used on the battlefield of the Outer Realm, but Allen did not fail to learn it. He quickly remembered several conventional passwords, including the Morse password.
Adele had appeared when she was a child, and the two seemed to have a tacit understanding, not mentioning anything unpleasant that night, as if it had never happened. But Alan noticed with great care that there was a slight change in Adele's body. For example, every time she went to college, she would no longer always wear men's clothes and would occasionally wear one or two girls' accessories, making her neutral beauty even more pleasing to the eye.
However, in terms of temperament, he was still very wild, and there was no change in this aspect. Alan could roughly understand that Adele was always dressed in men's clothes, either because she did not want to lose to men, or because she subconsciously protected herself, which made her different from other noble ladies and made her very charming.
One day Adele went to the academy and went straight home after lunch with Alan. After Alan rested, he went to the library alone and bumped into Vera, a girl with different styles. She remembered that she hadn't talked much since she met Vera. Vera seemed to be fond of black. No matter when, she only gave people the impression that it was a wisp of ink.
Today was no exception. Black skirts and black boots didn't have the slightest sense of existence like a ghost.
"Vera." Alan called softly, ready to be turned a deaf ear.
But this time, Vera had a reaction. She nodded slightly to welcome him. She pulled out a picture from the folder and stuffed it into Allen's hand. Allen unfolded it. Inside was the image of a man facing an endless enemy. The man only had a side face, and from the outline of his face, it was somewhat similar to his own.
"This is what I saw, about your future" Vera's unique voice rang out.
Alan nodded and smiled, "It's very beautiful. I'll take it."
"Aren't you worried at all?" Vera raised her head and asked doubtfully.
"What are you worried about?" Ellen flicked the paper with his finger. "You said that the future is multifaceted and you don't see the future happening. Besides, even if the future in the painting happens, so what? Look, I'm not dead yet. As long as I'm not dead, everything is possible!"
Perhaps Ellen's strong confidence had infected the girl, and Vera's cloud-like eyes shone with a glimmer or two. She said, "I heard from grandfather that you will set up your own hunting team in the future?"
"Of course, I will explore the Outer Realm and explore the world beyond." Alan nodded.
"My grades in cosmic geography are not bad. If you need a pilot then maybe you can consider me." Vera raised her head and said, "If I have the chance, I want to go to the foreign lands where my parents died in battle …"
Before Alan could reply, Vera went into the library and merged into the shadows. Alan thought that Vera's wish might be a good medicine to untie the knot in her heart. He couldn't think of a reason to refuse this request, not to mention the fact that pilots were indeed a necessary part of the expedition to the Outer Realms.
Of course, as a precaution, Alan planned to ask Hughton for his opinion before making a decision. Moreover, there was still a long way to go before he could set up a hunting group, so he didn't have to answer in a hurry.
Taking a deep breath, Alan also went into the library.
Very quickly, the one-month period set by Windsor Belo was about to arrive. On the weekend of the fourth week, Dean Andrew called four people, including Alan, to his office.
The director's office was surprisingly simple. It was only twenty to thirty square meters in area. Two bookshelves, a few tables and chairs, and a set of sofas were all part of the office. The only decorative thing in the office was the row of bonsai on the windowsill. This was the only greenery that made the office look less monotonous.
The four of them were sitting on the sofa, while Dean Andrew was still reading the documents. Everyone saw that he was still using an old-fashioned quill to gently touch the ink, leaving behind a string of charming words on the document. In the era of electronic office has been popular, not to mention quill this kind of retro pencil, even paper documents have been quite rare.
When the review was over, Dean Andrew stood up and saw that the youth's gaze was on his quill. He smiled and said, "Nostalgia is not a bad thing when you are old. It reminds us that today comes from yesterday and tomorrow is created in the present."
The dean's words attracted deep thought, and Alan heard them and remembered them in his heart.
"I called you here today because Marshal Windsor Belo has news." Dean Andrew sat opposite the youths and said, "Marshal told me to inform you that the topic of the second round of the exam is actual combat. On Monday morning, you must gather at the academy. She will send a car to take you to the military port and then take a special airship to the surface."
"The location of the assessment is a small town occupied by the predators in Area 7 on the surface. Your topic is to lead an army each to see who can defeat this small town faster and more efficiently and clean up the predators." Dean Andrew smiled.
"Actual combat?"
"Predators?"
The youths had different expressions. Webb was excited, while Pitts was a little timid. As for Alan, when he saw him, Andrew made a move. In Allen's eyes, it was hatred that surged like lava!
"Predators. Very good, very good …" Alan repeated the words softly.
During his school days at Dawn Blade, Allen had gathered information about the predators. The academy's library itself was a huge repository of information. As long as it wasn't a federal secret, one could almost find the information they needed in the library. Of course, the predators were not a federal secret, so Allen had easy access to this information.
According to the information he found, the predators could be regarded as a "dangerous species" separated from the human race. Of course, their origins are also very sad. After the Battle of Dawn, terrifying radiation remained on the surface. In the earliest hundred years, a large proportion of people who were unable to enter Babylon far away from the surface died from the residual intense radiation on the surface.
However, a small number of people survived, but they were affected by the radiation, and their bodies had a large degree of mutation. The most obvious anomaly was the necrosis of nerve endings, making them unable to feel any pain. The density of the bones increases, making them very strong and not easy to kill.
In that barren era, living conditions were a thousand times worse than the current surface. In the face of the harsh reality of food shortages, these people began to kill and devour their fellow citizens. Perhaps the origin of the predators was the result of helpless reality. However, the situation on the surface was gradually improving. Now that the Federation was working to restore order, they continued to plunder and eat humans. They even turned eating humans into the tradition of this race!
