With a flash of silver light, a longsword materialized in Mika's hand—Arondight.
Gripping the blade, feeling the flow of Magic within him and the surge of power from the enhancement magic coursing through his body and weapon, he swung his arm.
Even this slight movement created a gust of wind that brushed against Alfia's face.
"So this is your trump card?" she asked, a smirk playing on her lips as she crossed her arms.
Despite her casual demeanor, a sense of danger, a feeling she hadn't experienced in a long time, made her wary.
This only fueled her excitement.
She craved powerful opponents, especially one who, like Mika, was a descendant of the Hera Familia.
"Alfia, while I don't know who the mastermind behind this war is, tonight, I will end this," Mika declared, raising Arondight and pointing it at her.
"Oh? Then let's see what makes you confident," she taunted.
"Argh!" With a roar, they charged, their weapons clashing.
Clang!
Thus began their fierce duel.
They danced around each other, their blades flashing, searching for an opening.
Mika's eyes widened in surprise.
"!!!!" He had sensed it the moment their blades crossed; Alfia's swordsmanship had reached his level.
"...."
"I held back during our last encounter! Her skill was only at the pseudo level then!"
Alfia, noticing his shock, smiled. "You ended our last duel prematurely, fearing my talent would allow me to reach your level, didn't you?"
"But you underestimated me. While I didn't reach your level instantly, I glimpsed the path. All I needed was time to train."
Mika's heart sank as he listened to her casual explanation.
His only advantage over Alfia, had been his superior, battle-honed skills.
Now, after a brief exchange, even that advantage was gone.
'And that's not the worst of it! I can't see through her movements at all. Did she steal Transparent World, too?!' He cursed inwardly, even as he continued their exchange, a sense of relief washing over him.
'I'm glad I listened to Mellie. Otherwise, with her abilities, Orario would be doomed.' He recalled their conversation from the night before the operation.
....
Mellie had sought him out as he was preparing for the mission.
"You're suggesting I avoid using Nen against Alfia?" he had asked, puzzled.
Nen was a crucial part of his strength. Fighting without it would put him at a disadvantage against Alfia.
"Not all Nen, just your Aura. Directly attacking her with your Aura might enhance her abilities. She's a monster of talent, after all."
Mika immediately understood.
He had awakened his Nen through mastering his martial arts, an incredibly rare occurrence.
Most Nen users awakened their abilities either through rigorous training to open their aura nodes, or through a more dangerous method of having another Nen user forcibly open their nodes with their own aura.
While both methods achieved the same result, the latter was considered dangerous due to the risk of injury.
Those unfamiliar with Nen had no defense against it.
A malicious or unskilled Nen user could easily inflict severe damage.
Many of the disabled individuals on the 200th floor of Heavens Arena were victims of such reckless awakenings.
They had unknowingly challenged Nen users and survived, their aura nodes forcibly opened, but at the cost of their physical well-being.
In the future Chimera Ant arc, Gon had inadvertently awakened a Chimera Ant's Nen by striking it with an aura-infused attack.
Mika believed this was a unique characteristic of the Hunter x Hunter world and wouldn't occur in other universes.
"When I was teaching Esdeath and the others about Nen, she showed signs of awakening her own abilities. She was very close. I was surprised at the time, but with everything that was happening, I forgot to tell you," Mellie explained.
"If even Esdeath could nearly awaken to Nen, then what about Alfia?"
Her words had given Mika pause.
…
He had taken Mellie's warning seriously and had refrained from using any aura-based attacks during the initial stages of his duel with Alfia.
But now, having witnessed her monstrous talent, he was even more determined not to risk it. If Alfia awakened to Nen, he had no chance of victory.
'Clang!' Their weapons clashed again, and they separated.
Empowered by Arondight, his Supreme Teigu, and enhancement magic, Mika's base stats were now comparable to Alfia's.
Furthermore, their swordsmanship was evenly matched.
After their initial exchange, they retreated, assessing each other.
"That concludes our warm-up," Mika said, lowering his stance.
"Indeed. Now, the real battle begins," Alfia replied with a smile.
They locked eyes, their bodies tense, ready to resume their duel.
....
Suddenly, a brilliant pillar of light erupted in the distance, radiating an immense divine aura that washed over Orario, momentarily interrupting all the ongoing battles.
"So it has begun," Alfia murmured, gazing at the pillar of light.
Mika stared, his mouth agape. He recognized that divine aura. But the gods weren't allowed to unleash their power in the lower world. Yet, here it was, a divine presence revealed for all to see.
He had read about this in the books.
"Divine Return…"
[Divine Return] It meant a god had perished, their essence returning to Heaven.
"As expected… this moment has finally arrived." He had anticipated this possibility.
After all, the gods were the Familias' greatest weakness.
If Yahweh was returned to Heaven, he would be devastated.
Although, thanks to his unique abilities, her absence wouldn't damage him, he couldn't bear the thought of losing her.
He considered her family.
"Judging by your expression, you anticipated this, didn't you?" Alfia asked, observing his reaction.
"Of course."
"Then did you anticipate how many gods would be returned?"
As soon as she finished speaking, more pillars of light erupted, over a dozen in total.
This meant over a dozen gods had been killed by the dark faction and returned to Heaven.
And with their deaths, their Familias lost their power.
"Damn it! They've gone too far!" Even Mika, who had anticipated such a move, was shocked by the scale of their attack.
"This is just the beginning," Alfia said with a chilling smile, recalling their god's plan.
"A grand plan, indeed." Mika nodded slowly, a grim expression on his face.
"But no matter how grand your scheme, its success hinges on you and Zald."
"Once you're gone.. the dark faction's plans, no matter how cunning, will amount to nothing."
"And I will be the one to end your life here and now." With that, he charged.
"Then come and try!" Alfia met his attack.
…
"Divine Return…" Finn murmured, watching the fading pillars of light. "Although I expected this, witnessing it…it's still shocking. Even I've never seen anything like this."
"Indeed," Loki agreed.
Just then, Riveria and Gareth rushed back, their wounds healed by Airmid's Magic.
They had encountered her and her team while searching for Zald.
As they were about to resume their search, a messenger from the Loki Familia had summoned them back to Babel Tower.
"What is it, Finn?" Riveria asked.
"We no longer require your assistance with Zald. Ottar and the Freya Familia have engaged him. I trust they'll be able to handle the situation. As for Alfia, Mika seems to have a plan. We should trust his judgment."
"I have a more pressing task for you now," Finn said, his expression turning serious.
"What is it?" Riveria and Gareth asked, their own faces growing grim.
"I need you to lead a team into the dungeon."
"Just now, as the gods were being returned, Yahweh sensed a surge of divine power from within the dungeon."
"I suspect some of those pillars of light originated from within the dungeon."
Divine power transcended physical barriers. Even if a god unleashed their power within the dungeon, or was returned to Heaven from within, the dungeon's walls couldn't contain it.
"You're saying one of the dark faction's Evil Gods unleashed their power in the dungeon, angering it, and now a powerful monster has been sent to attack us?" Riveria instantly grasped Finn's meaning. The implications were terrifying.
"Didn't Loki sense anything?" They trusted their own goddess above all others.
Loki shrugged. "I didn't sense anything. After all, I'm no different from an ordinary person now. But I trust Yahweh. She's my elder sister, after all."
Yahweh smiled. Indeed, she was different.
Although she had lost her divine powers, she had gained Nen and regained some of her divine senses.
It was because of this that she had sensed the surge of power from within the dungeon.
