Chapter 7: The enemy of thy enemy?
-Emrys-
The artificial sun Ajuka created casted its golden rays across the clearing in the Familiar Forest, illuminating the scene of Emrys clashing with Tiamat both in their dragons forms creating slight shockwaves from the repeated impacts. His light red scales littered the ground, his body slowly becoming a patchwork with some barely clinging to his body. Tiamat herself looked unfazed not having a single scratch and if it wasn't for his blood clinging to her body no one would have been able to tell she was fighting.
Nevertheless Emrys wasn't deterred and launched another ferocious strike toward her even with fractured claws and despite his growing strength and speed Tiamat evaded him with an effortless grace, moving with swiftness that shouldn't have been possible for someone her size despite being slightly smaller then Emrys himself.
"Enough," Tiamat commanded suddenly, holding up a claw with him freezing mid-step, his eyes narrowing with frustration, "Now transform into your human form." she demanded turning into a human herself dressed in her classic black leather jacket.
Emrys' jaw tightened because he preferred fighting in his dragon form. His size and power alone gave him an edge against anyone in his powerclass, though that didn't apply to Tiamat yet.
"Why?" he asked, his voice carrying a hint of irritation.
Tiamat smirked, crossing her arms and walked up to his towering form as if daring him to test her, "Because I said so and I'm training you to be ready for anything in the future. So remember this, a true warrior excels in all forms, and most of your future battles will be fought as a human. It's more convenient to get used to constantly switching, now stop whining and transform."
Grumbling under his breath, Emrys allowed his dragon form to recede feeling the familiar form he was stuck in for years as he was shrinking and condensing. Even now he stood taller than Tiamat, something he was proud of, but becoming a human after eating, sleeping and shitting as a dragon for days was a pain, so he stretched his neck and rolled his shoulders.
"This feels so restrictive." He muttered a complaint.
Tiamat only chuckled in response before flicking his forehead and leaping back a couple meters shifting into a combat stance. "Restrictive or not, it's what we're going to train, now come at me. No powers, just straight hand-to-hand combat."
Not needing a second invitation he rushed the blue haired beauty not holding anything back. Throwing a fast jab toward her face, Tiamat tilted her head slightly, the punch grazing the air beside her. She countered with a sweep kick, and Emrys barely managed to leap over it, retaliating with a spinning back kick, but the difference in experience was vast with Tiamat blocking it effortlessly, the impact barely making her shift.
The fight continued, with Emrys throwing a flurry of punches and kicks. Each time, Tiamat either dodged or parried, her movements so precise that she seemed to predict his every move and as the sparring grew increasingly one-sided so did Emrys's frustration.
He knew she wasn't using more strength or speed then he had access to at the moment, so his extended range due to his size should have been an advantage, but he was still being toyed with. So he decided to close in once more and launched a fierce uppercut, putting his full strength into the attack.
But once again Tiamat sidestepped, this time she grabbed his arm mid-swing, and used his momentum to flip him onto his back. The air rushed out of his lungs as he hit the ground, but he scrambled to his feet from sheer will power still unable to catch his breath, yet unwilling to admit defeat.
"You're getting sloppy," Tiamat remarked, her voice calm. "Stop trying to rely on brute strength and think!"
Emrys growled, his temper flaring beyond anything he'd ever felt as his pride was constantly being prodded and instinctively he felt a fire in his belly and rushed once more and threw a quick jab, but as he let out a breath an intense heat spilled from his lips and rushed towards her. Realizing what he's done he tried to control them after they've left his mouth, but he didn't have that level of finesse yet and before he could mutter an apology she moved.
Tiamat's eyes gleamed with disappointment and she moved with lightning speed, batting away the flames with her bare arm and after closing the distance between them in an instant her fist struck his diaphragm with calculated force, knocking the wind out of him and sending him tumbling.
With Emrys falling to his knees clutching his stomach and gasping for air. Tiamat now towered over him, her frame casting a long shadow and without hesitation, she lifted her foot and kicked him hard in the chest backward into a tree near Asia, who had been watching nervously from the sidelines.
"Asia, heal him," Tiamat instructed, her tone commanding but not unkind.
The previous nun hurried over to his side a green aura emitting from her hands as she used her Twilight Healing to envelop his bruised and battered body.
"Are you okay?" she asked softly, her emerald eyes filled with concern that made him want to caress her head if he wasn't in so much pain at the moment.
But he did his best and after regaining his breath Emrys sat up and gave her a weak smile. "Of course, I have my very own dragon certified healer. Thanks, Asia. I'll live another day because of you." he said though he knew Tiamat only went as hard as she did because there was a healer present because she wouldn't risk his life despite the tough love she dealt.
Tiamat approached, her arms crossed. Her stern expression bore down on him as she began to speak. "Listen Emrys, as time passes both your dragon and human forms will grow more powerful, so while constantly trying to get stronger is helpful it isn't a priority at the moment. Right now you need to improve your technique especially in your human form, because while good for human standards the supernatural will toy with, so against anyone with experience, you'll get destroyed."
"So I'll say this again. You need to sharpen your skills, Emrys." She repeated wanting to ensure he got the message.
He looked up at her, determination burning in his golden eyes. "I get it. So, what do I need to do?"
Tiamat's gaze softened slightly as she explained, "I know you won't stop so while you train your physical strength you also train your martial skills daily. But that's not enough because if you push your body hard enough and train in Senjutsu, you can unlock Touki. That will strengthen you in both forms and will let you punch above your weight class. Imagining a Heavenly Dragon with Touki is honestly scary." she muttered an excited smile working its way onto her face once more.
"Senjutsu?" Emrys asked, intrigued. "Do you know it?" He asked ready to start training in the art of Hashirama, ready to summon a giant buddha and kick some ass.
Tiamat shook her head. "I tried to learn once, but the chaos in my nature made it impossible. It requires balance and harmony, things I'm not exactly known for." she explained and he could only nod knowing it would make sense considering her nature and even his own nature seemingly contradicts, but now that he was in balance he should be able to to learn the art.
"So who's going to teach me?" he asked, curiosity piqued.
Tiamat smirked, her eyes gleaming. "I called in a favor and Amaterasu herself is busy. She has made arrangements for you to train in Kyoto with one of the best Senjutsu users in the world. Right now I think only that stupid monkey is a better teacher."
Emrys blinked in surprise before realization dawned on him a grin spread across his face as he put the pieces together, using both sets of memories. "Do you mean Yasaka?" he asked excitedly at the thought of meeting the leader of another faction.
"Yes," Tiamat replied, amused by his reaction. "But don't get distracted by her udder tits and try to sleep with her. I know she's one of the most sought-after women in the world, but if you waste her time, she'll make you regret it and I will too, so don't fuck this up."
Emrys's grin didn't waver. The thought of training under Yasaka thrilled him for two reasons: the chance for immense growth and the chance to meet someone of her 'legendary' status was too tempting, she reminded him of Tsunade Senju for some reason.
"Don't worry," he said, fire igniting in his tone. "I'm ready."
-Asia Argento-
Later on in the day she sat on a plush couch in the small but comfortable room Emrys had arranged for her in the Familiar Forest, that connected to his own. Her eyes sparkled as she watched a whimsical live-action magical girl show, giggling at the antics of the character, Levi-tan.
A half-eaten slice of strawberry cake rested on the table beside her, and she took another small bite letting out a content sigh as she leaned back into the comfortable seat.
For as long as she could remember, her life had been a rigid path of servitude and sacrifice. Her days as a nun had been filled with prayer, healing, and obedience to the Church.
She never questioned her role because it was all she knew, but the past few days with Emrys had changed everything. The once-sheltered girl was discovering a world she hadn't known existed, filled with kindness, laughter, and a thrilling sense of freedom.
"Asia," Emrys called from across the room, his voice warm. He sat at a desk, poring over a map of Kyoto, planning his upcoming training with Yasaka. Which she was excited for, considering her ability he was taking her with him to travel and train, "What's so funny over there?"
She turned to him with a bright smile, her cheeks hurting from smiling so often,"The characters in this show are so silly! It's so much fun to watch." Her expression softened, "Thank you for letting me use the TV. I've never been able to watch something like this before." Asia added wanting to make sure he knew how grateful she was.
"You don't need to thank me, Asia. You can enjoy whatever you want. That's the whole point of freedom." Emrys glanced up from his work and gave her a smirk and a wink that gave her butterflies.
Asia felt her heart swelled at Emrys' words, he wasn't just strong and protective. He was kind and even Tiamat, despite her fearsome presentation, had been unexpectedly nice to her. The Dragoness treated her with respect and warmth she hadn't anticipated, so Asia found herself relishing every moment of this new life. If only she could heal people in need it would truly be perfect.
She glanced at the window, where the sun was beginning to set, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. A flicker of unease crossed her face as a thought wormed its way into her mind. She knew she would soon have to make a decision about her future. Asia could join Heaven and dedicate herself to her original mission still called to her, but the idea of leaving this newfound joy behind tugged painfully at her heart.
Emrys seemed to sense her shift in mood. "What's wrong?" he asked, setting down the map and walking over to her. He sat beside her and wrapped her in his arms, his golden eyes filled with concern warming her heart the same way he did her body.
Asia hesitated, wringing her hands. "It's nothing… I mean, I'm just thinking about the future." she said fidgeting slightly at the close contact with a man and he tilted his head, prompting her to continue.
"I've been so happy these past few days," she admitted, her voice soft, "More than I've ever been in my life. Watching TV, eating sweets, talking with you about anything I want. It's all just so… wonderful, but I keep thinking about how if I join Heaven, I won't get to see you every day anymore and that makes me sad."
Emrys leaned back, his expression thoughtful. "Asia, listen to me," he said gently rubbing her head in a way that sent pleasant tingles down her back, "You don't have to decide anything right now and no matter what you choose, whether you stay with me or join Heaven, I'll always be your friend. I'll talk to you whenever I can, and you'll never have to feel alone again. I promise."
"Thank you, Emrys. That means so much to me." Asia nodded his words bringing tears to her eyes, but they were tears of gratitude.
"For now," he continued, a playful glint in his eyes, "just focus on enjoying yourself. You've been through a lot, Asia and you deserve to be happy. You can stay for years or days and if join Heaven later, just know that I'm only a call away."
A warm smile spread across her face. "You're right. I'll do my best to enjoy every moment."
Emrys stood, ruffled her hair once more before returning to his map and she watched him for a moment, her smile lingering. Whatever the future held, she knew she'd cherish this time with her first friend. A time that was filled with laughter, kindness, and hope.
-Issei Hyoudou-
Issei Hyoudou thought life as a devil would be easy, but that really wasn't the case as he wiped the sweat off his brow, his still developing muscles burning from the intense training session. The rest of the peerage around him, their own energy being taxed as they panted from the relentless exercise. Even Koneko, who rarely showed signs of fatigue, had a sheen of sweat on her pale skin. Despite the exhaustion, Issei grinned, relishing the camaraderie and the sense of progress that he'd been making training with President's peerage. He could hold a plank for over five minutes now.
"Issei," Rias called, her voice cutting through the chatter of the group. Her tone was soft and slightly breathless because even she was training her butt off, but it still carried an unmistakable authority.
He immediately stood up and straightened his back wanting to appear taller, his grin turning sheepish as he jogged over to her.
"Yes, Buchou?" he asked, his enthusiasm barely restrained at the call of his President.
Rias folded her arms, her crimson hair cascading over her shoulders like a crimson curtain. "A week ago, we tried to summon your Sacred Gear, but you couldn't quite manage it. Now it's time to try again. Are you ready?" she said, her azure eyes locking onto him with an encouraging smile, but all he could pay attention to was the bead of sweat that was currently running down her neck into her cleavage… What he wouldn't give to trade places with the drop of sweat.
But after processing what she said his heart pounded, not just from the prospect of summoning his Sacred Gear and using some special power he has, but from the way Rias looked at him left him weak in the knees as her belief in him warmed him like the sun, so he clenched his fists, determination flooding his veins.
"You bet I'm ready! I won't let you down, Buchou!" he declared with a confident smile.
Rias nodded, stepping back to give him space. "Good and remember what I told you last time. Focus on the most powerful being you can imagine and draw that power out from within you."
Issei nodded, closing his eyes and steadying his breath. His mind raced, cycling through images of powerhouses he admired. Then, one figure emerged above the rest: Son Soku.
The ultimate embodiment of strength, determination, and heroism, as he clenched his fists tighter, imagining Soku's energy, his spirit, and his drive to surpass limits. A spark that was initially beyond reach ignited deep within giving a sensation he couldn't quite describe. It was like a roaring fire trapped in his soul, waiting to be unleashed, but it didn't burn.
After a second he felt it, the surge of power that every classic anime protagonist had. The area around was drowned in blinding crimson as light burst from his left arm. He heard gasps from the other member of the ORC echoing around him as the light grew brighter, pulsating with an intensity that left no doubt something extraordinary was happening.
When the light finally subsided, Issei looked down, his breath catching in his throat. On his left arm was a gauntlet. It was a red piece of armor adorned with glowing green jewels that shone with an almost otherworldly energy that seemed to watch his own emotions.
"I... I did it!" Issei exclaimed, his voice filled with awe. He raised his arm, flexing his fingers, feeling the gauntlet move with them, it felt like a hard layer over his arm that he could summon and unsummon at will, "This is my Sacred Gear?" he asked Rias, wanting to know if it was a good one or not, because even if it looked cool didn't mean it was powerful.
Before he could process further, Rias rushed forward and wrapped her arms around him in an uncharacteristic display of affection, "You did it, Issei! This isn't just any Sacred Gear! You've awakened the Boosted Gear!" she cried, her voice bubbling with joy as she quickly released the hug much to his disappointment.
"The Boosted Gear?" Issei repeated in confusion, not knowing what that was.
Rias stepped back slightly, putting some space between them, "It's a legendary artifact, one of the thirteen Longinus created by the Biblical God that houses the spirit of Ddraig, the Red Dragon Emperor. With this, you have the potential to rival gods themselves, Issei."
And that's when Issei's jaw dropped, the weight of her words slowly sinking in. God-killing power? Him? His mind swam with questions, but before he could voice any of them, a deep baritone voice boomed in his mind.
"Rest, eat and regain your strength, because tonight we will speak without interruptions and get your training started."
Issei froze, his eyes darting around at the creepy voice, "Did… did anyone else hear that?" he asked nervously, knowing one of his ecchi manga started similar with a girl hearing a voice and meeting the Ugly bastard at night who was mind controlling her.
"Hear what?" Rias asked, tilting her head as she looked around along with the other members.
Realizing that no one else seemed to notice the voice, Issei nodded awkwardly, brushing it off hoping his butt stayed intact, "N-nothing! I guess I'm just hearing things!"
-Rias Gremory-
Rias Gremory sat in her room, a warm, contented smile gracing her lips as she leaned back against her plush couch. For the first time in what felt like ages, the weight of her worries had begun to lift. Life was falling into place, as if her famous Gremory Luck was finally kicking in.
The memory of Emrys' recent text still replayed in her mind. [Let's talk at the end of the month.] Just seeing his name light up her phone had filled her with hope. Emrys, the man who had once been hers, was finally ready to talk again and a glimmer of reconciliation was enough to make her heart flutter. After everything that had happened Rias felt like she was being given another chance.
And her conversation with Grayfia right after had only cemented that hope. Hearing that Emrys had severed the pact with her brother's queen gave Rias a sense of relief she hadn't realized she was craving.
It made her wonder, was Emrys coming back to her? The thought sent a rush of excitement through her, but she quickly tempered it. She didn't want to assume too much, but the pieces seemed to be aligning in her favor.
But another thought lingered in her mind. What was going to happen now that there was no one she trusted around him? In a month he would attract more women and there was no Grayfia to drain him dry or drive them away, so she'd have to have hope and no matter what she would meet him at the end of the month.
And earlier in the day when she was training with her peerage an unexpected surprise occurred and her pawn Issei Hyoudou unlocked his Sacred Gear and it just so happened to be the 'Boosted Gear'. It seemed like she attracted dragons, though one was massively more perverted then the other and remembering his exclamation worried and amused her at the same time.
(Slight Flashback)
She was pushing herself to improve not just for herself but for Emrys and her peerage decided to join giving their all. Even Koneko, despite her usual reserved demeanor, seemed more determined than ever.
Once the training wrapped up, Rias wiped the sweat from her brow and turned her attention to Issei. She had noticed how much harder he'd been pushing himself lately, and it made her proud. Within a week he showed that he wasn't just the energetic, reckless boy who had joined her peerage.
"Issei," she called, beckoning him with a wave of her hand.
He jogged over, his enthusiasm palpable. "Yes, President?"
Rias had him try to summon his sacred gear again and the rest of the peerage paused to watch, a quiet anticipation settling over the group. In the end he was successful and Issei stood in the center of the training ground, his left arm now adorned with a crimson gauntlet with emerald jewels glowing faintly along its length.
The Boosted Gear. A Longinus that made its user capable of killing gods. She was excited beyond all measure, feeling that life truly was looking up and in her excitement she enveloped him in a hug, but froze for a moment, the memory of another dragon flashing in her mind, Emrys. The last time she was close to Issei he was there and she wasn't going to risk anything that was why she had Issei address her a President, wanting to keep things from getting to personal, maybe later she could become closer with him, but that was after everything was worked out with Emrys.
So she quickly released Issei from the hug, her expression shifting to a more composed smile. 'I need to be careful', she reminded herself, knowing how affectionate she was with her peerage. The last time she got too close to Issei, it had caused problems she wasn't eager to repeat.
(End of Flashback)
For the first time in a long while, Rias felt like her future was within reach. Emrys was coming back. Her peerage was growing stronger. And with Issei's Boosted Gear, her dream of becoming a Rating Game champion no longer felt like a distant fantasy. She only hoped that Issei didn't get the wrong idea.
-Emrys-
As the train slowed to a halt at the station in Kuoh, Tiamat stood at the edge of the platform, her gaze fixed on Emrys. The faint scent of dragonfire lingered around her, a reminder of their earlier sparring session, where she trained his resistance to fire. Crossing her arms Tiamat wore a small, almost imperceptible smile playing on her lips.
"Keep me updated daily," Tiamat ordered, her tone leaving no room for negotiation, "And visit me weekly, so we can test your progress. You have no excuses now that you've got no time in your schedule."
Emrys smirked, slinging his bag over his shoulder. "Yes, mother", he teased lightly which earned a flick to his forehead from the Chaos Dragon that snapped his head back.
"I mean it," she said, her eyes narrowing, then almost as an afterthought she added, "Don't slack off, either. You've got potential, but potential means nothing if you die before you reach it."
Sighing he nodded in agreement, "Yeah, yeah. I'll make you proud." He muttered with Asia giving Tiamat a quick hug before following him.
As he and Asia stepped onto the train, he paused to glance back at her, raising an eyebrow, "Why the train, though? It's not like we can't teleport." He asked, confused.
Tiamat chuckled softly, shaking her head. "Because Kyoto's got a barrier that blocks unauthorized teleportation. It's not just some human city, Emrys. You'll need to learn how to respect the territories of others or you'll be hunted down and make sure not to use your abilities unless necessary."
Emrys grumbled under his breath, annoyed at the inconvenience but acknowledging the logic. "Fine I guess I'll play human for a while," he muttered, annoyed at the prospect of having to spend prolonged periods of time as a human.
Before leaving he stepped off to give Tiamat a quick hug, and despite her usual stoicism, she returned it with a brief but firm squeeze. "Don't do anything stupid," she said, watching him climb aboard with Asia trailing behind him, a cheerful wave in her direction.
The train ride itself was uneventful, filled with Asia's quiet chatter as he occasionally nodded along still studying the map of Kyoto not wanting to get lost and while he was doing that he couldn't help but wonder about what lay ahead.
Kyoto was unfamiliar territory, and though he knew about Yasaka from his memories that was when she was dealing with the main cast and he didn't have that privilege and as he was right now he knew that without power very few people would show respect.
Maybe this is why Tiamat sent him out here? To humble him a little bit more and so he could learn Touki and Senjutsu… Nope she doesn't seem like the type to think that far ahead, so it was probably just to get stronger, besides once his seal is fully released he could disrespect anyone and they'd thank him.
-Tiamat-
She suddenly had the urge to beat Emory's again and she didn't know why…
-Emrys-
When he and Asia arrived at Kyoto Station, the sight of the bustling terminal immediately caught Emrys' attention. It was a sharp contrast to the quieter, more rural feel of Kuoh, before he could take in much the crowd suddenly parted revealing a small figure approaching, her blonde hair catching the light.
"Welcome to Kyoto!" The girl greeted him with a bright smile, her nine golden tails flicked behind her, drawing the attention of both Emrys and Asia. "I'm Kunou, mother sent me to pick you up." Emrys raised an eyebrow, recognizing her immediately. Kunou, Yasaka's daughter and one of the only Nine-tailed foxes in existence.
"Thanks for coming to get us." He responded with a nod.
Kunou's smile widened as she turned, motioning for them to follow. "Since Mother is busy for a few hours, I thought I'd show you around. Kyoto is beautiful this time of year, and there's so much to see!"
Though Emrys was initially annoyed at the delay, he couldn't deny that he was curious about the city. It wasn't every day he got to explore such a historic place and with Kunou leading they would see parts that the public doesn't have access to. They visited temples, strolled through private parks that were owned by ancient emperors, and his personal favorite was trying local food. Asia's excitement was infectious and seeing her happy brought him joy and Emrys found himself relaxing, enjoying the experience more than he expected.
Emrys had developed a new appreciation for the city, and the little fox girl's ability to talk endlessly about its history and culture. Near sundown Kunou led them to her home and as they approached the grand estate, he could feel a ripple of energy. The potent barrier confirmed that he was stepping into someone else's domain.
Walking down the path, Yasaka greeted them in front of the main hall, her presence warm and comforting, like coming home to your wife after a hard day's work. Dressed in an elegant kimono that complemented her golden hair and tails, she radiated power.
Emrys, despite preparing himself mentally was captivated, not just by her beauty but by the overwhelming strength he could sense emanating from her. She was stronger than Grayfia, yet not quite at Tiamat's level and that was without taking into account that she could draw on the Leylines at any time to become even stronger, it was more than enough to excite him.
"Emrys," Yasaka greeted with a soft smile, stepping forward and to his surprise, she pulled him into a warm embrace, her tails wrapping around him lightly. "It's good to finally meet you. I can feel your potential. It's... impressive."
Emrys blinked, momentarily disarmed by her closeness. He nodded, hugging her back tightly. "Thanks. I'm ready to start whenever you are." He responded feeling the way her buxom body warped against his, her tails softer than anything he'd ever felt.
Yasaka leaned closer, her voice dropping into a sultry whisper. "I heard you are Tiamat's son from Lady Amaterasu, so the first lesson," she said, her tone shifting subtly blowing softly into his ear as she wrapped her arms around her neck making him look down at her. "Never let anyone you don't trust within striking range."
Before Emrys could react, Yasaka shifted her grip and with a swift motion, she flipped him over her shoulder, slamming him into the ground with enough force to leave a crater. The impact drove the air from his lungs, leaving him gasping.
"And the second rule darling," Yasaka continued, standing over him leaning down giving him a generous glance at her expansive cleavage, her golden eyes locking onto his, "Never get distracted in a fight."
Her tail swiped him to the side, sending Emrys crashing into a nearby tree. The force shook some leaves loose and he slumped to the ground, dazed. Asia hurried over, kneeling beside him and healing him as quickly as she could, worry etched on her face.
Emrys, feeling a sense of Deja Vu, sat up slowly, his breaths coming in shallow gasps. He looked up at Yasaka, who stood with her arms crossed under her breasts making them look bigger, a teasing expression lingering on her face.
"Got it," he said after catching his breath, his lips curling into a sharp grin. His body ached in a familiar way, but the fire in his gut burned hotter, "Let's go again."
Yasaka smirked, her tails flicking behind her. "That's the spirit, now show this naughty vixen what the big bad dragon is made of."
Emrys, not bothering to respond with his words launched himself at her, every muscle in his body coiled like a spring. This time his focus was razor-sharp on her body taking in every little detail of how on the way she moved. Yasaka welcomed the challenge, her movements graceful as she met his fist with her tail wrapping it around his extended arm and redirecting him making him stumble as he regained his balance.
"If that's the best you can do then I'll have to revisit the information on dragons being the apex of the Supernatural." Yasaka said with a teasing smile and rather than getting angry he took a deep breath and approached again with a smile.
