DxD: I Steal Luck

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Rias’s Curiosity

The sudden thunderbolt in the dark alley startled nearby pedestrians. Murmurs of confusion rippled through the crowd, faces filled with bewilderment. The weather forecast had promised clear skies, yet the heavens had delivered this inexplicable phenomenon.

Blake stood motionless, gazing at the smoldering corpse of the spider devil. After a moment, he chuckled dryly. "So that's what happens when your luck hits rock bottom. Clear skies, and it still gets struck by lightning. Truly tragic."

The familiar notification pulled Blake from his thoughts. Letting out a long breath, he silently thanked Sia for her timely assistance. "If you hadn't warned me to step back, I might've been caught in the blast."

"It's my duty to protect you, Master," Sia replied cheerily. Blake detected a note of pride in her voice, and a small smile crept onto his lips.

"Time to head home," he said, sheathing Frost Whisper and sliding it into its scabbard. With a final glance toward a shadowy corner of the alley, Blake turned and disappeared into the night.

High above the alley, perched on a rooftop, two figures observed Blake's retreating silhouette.

"President, his speed is impressive, though his attack power leaves much to be desired," remarked a blond-haired youth dressed in Kuoh Academy's uniform. His short hair swayed slightly in the night breeze, accentuating his sharp, handsome features.

Rias Gremory stood beside him, her vibrant crimson hair cascading like a waterfall. Her gaze lingered on Blake, her arms crossed over her chest. "Indeed, Yuuto. His speed might even surpass yours. As for his lack of offensive power, that's to be expected. He's just an ordinary human skilled in swordsmanship, nothing more."

Pausing, she sighed. "Such a shame, though… despite his heritage…"

She trailed off, a look of regret crossing her striking features.

"Shall we go, President?" Yuuto Kiba asked, breaking the silence.

"Yes." With a nod, Rias activated a teleportation circle. Before vanishing, she cast one last intrigued glance at Blake's distant form.

Later that evening, Blake returned to his rented apartment. After cooking a quick meal and taking a refreshing shower, he lay on his bed, deep in thought.

The battle against the low-class devil had revealed much. His greatest strength lay in his unique ability, Perceptual Distortion, which had rendered Andreu nearly helpless. Against humanoid foes of similar strength, Blake was confident he could achieve swift victories. But against beasts like Andreu, his lack of offensive power was glaring.

He clenched his fists. "I'm too weak right now. If I were to face a mid-class devil, I wouldn't stand a chance. And in this world teeming with gods and devils, mid-class opponents are a dime a dozen."

Letting out a slow breath, Blake's ice-blue eyes sharpened with determination. "I must grow stronger—not just for myself, but for my sister, Lia. She's sacrificed so much for me…"

His gaze darkened. "As for the Silverstone family… I'll reclaim what's rightfully mine."

Sia's cheerful voice interrupted his brooding. "Master, if you wish to grow stronger, I recommend utilizing the system's dimension-hopping feature. Exploring alternate worlds increases the chance of triggering quests."

Blake raised an eyebrow. "The dimensional travel function resets weekly, doesn't it? Meaning unused opportunities don't roll over. That would make it wasteful not to use it."

"Exactly!" Sia chirped.

Blake nodded, but exhaustion tugged at him. "Tomorrow, then. I'm too drained today. A poor state of mind will only invite danger."

Sia didn't protest, her tone laced with understanding. "Rest well, Master."

As sleep began to claim him, Blake made one final resolve: no matter the trials ahead, he would rise above them and carve out a future worthy of his ambition.
