Chapter 12: Chapter 12: The Madness of the Heart
Two days passed swiftly. During that time, Masato was admitted to the hospital, his injuries severe. His two friends, terrified of retaliation, kept silent about the real cause, claiming Masato had hurt himself in an accident.
Meanwhile, Blake's days were peaceful. He spent mornings refining his Aether and afternoons helping Marina with her studies, much to the delight of their classmates, who enjoyed gossiping about them. Evenings were reserved for Airi, their time together filled with endless intimacy in the comfort of his home.
"I have to say, a girl like Airi, once you've conquered her, she'll indulge you in things most women would find outrageous or utterly embarrassing. Anyway, Blake has experienced this firsthand—it's utterly satisfying. Another day has passed. Time really flies. But I have to say, I love the time after school the most."
Hearing the pleasant chime of the school bell, Blake murmured to himself before standing up, ready to head home with Marina. Fortunately, she didn't have any club activities today.
"Blake, I've got something to take care of, so I'll head out first."
However, Marina suddenly checked a message on her phone, quickly stood up, gave Blake an apologetic smile, and dashed out of the classroom.
This left Blake frowning slightly. It was the first time he had seen Marina act so anxiously. After a moment of thought, he decided to follow her and sent a quick message to Airi as well.
Meanwhile, outside the school, in a secluded area, a man with a pale, almost sickly complexion and a sinister gaze closed his phone, revealing a chilling smile.
"Marina, you wretched woman, you finally showed up! I bet taking care of Blake while I was in the hospital felt pretty good, huh?"
As Marina stepped into a narrow alley, her footsteps faltered. Struggling to maintain his balance, Masato Ono, his expression twisted with malice, appeared before her. His eyes burned with a crazed intensity, like a rabid dog on the brink of losing control.
However, with his current frail state, he was more like an sickly patient then his previous confident self.
"Masato… what are you talking about? Blake and I have no intimate relationship—we're just friends."
Seeing Masato's menacing demeanor, Marina froze in shock, her face pale. She instinctively stepped back, frightened by the way his eyes seemed to devour her.
"Just friends? Do you take me for a fool? Then why are you so close? Why call him Blake? Why spend every break hanging out with him? You wouldn't even let me touch you, but you've been running around with that pretty boy while I was suffering!"
Marina's attempts to explain only fueled Masato's madness. His voice grew louder, a mix of rage and mockery.
The more he ranted, the darker his expression became. Over the past few days, his so-called friends had visited him in the hospital, feeding him rumors of Marina and Blake's "intimacy" in his absence. Consumed by jealousy and hatred, Masato had barely waited for his injuries to heal before storming out to confront her.
"It's not what you think! Blake has been helping me study for the college entrance exams!"
Marina tried desperately to reason with him as he limped toward her, but her words fell on deaf ears.
"Study? With him? Don't make me laugh! Blake this, Blake that—do you think I don't see through you? You're lying to me! Today, I'm going to make you pay. Maybe after I've had my fill, I'll share you with others!"
Masato's voice turned hysterical, and he pulled a small, gleaming fruit knife from his pocket.
"What… what are you going to do?"
Cornered against the wall, Marina's voice trembled, fear etched across her face.
"What do you think? I'll give you three seconds. Take off your clothes, or I'll start carving you up!"
Her fear seemed to exhilarate Masato. He grinned maniacally, his eyes locked on her.
"You never learn, do you? Is 38 luck points a reflection of your IQ as well?"
A calm voice broke through the tension. Marina, on the verge of tears, turned toward the source and saw a figure she recognized instantly. Relief washed over her like a tide.
Standing there was Blake Silverstone, with his silver hair, piercing blue eyes, and the Saint Maple Academy uniform he wore with effortless grace.
As Masato heard the voice, his head turned mechanically, as though rusty gears were forcing it to move. When he saw Blake, his face twisted with a mix of dread and fury. His eyes bulged unnaturally.
"Don't come any closer! I swear, if you do, I'll kill her!"
Masato's voice cracked as Blake approached him steadily, each step like a hammer striking his resolve. The memory of their last encounter three days ago sent shivers down his spine. Despite the knife in his hand, he didn't dare strike; instead, he used Marina as a shield.
Blake halted, his icy blue eyes narrowing, a faint glimmer of rage flickering in them. The tension froze Masato in place, but then he seemed to regain a sliver of confidence.
"Ha! You care about her, don't you? Well, her life is in my hands now. What are you going to do? Come on, tough guy, bow down to me! Beg for her life, and maybe, just maybe, I'll let her go!"
"You think I'm afraid of you? I'm just angry. A man stooping so low as to threaten a woman, let alone one who was supposed to be his girlfriend… how pathetic."
Blake's voice was laced with disdain. In the next instant, his ability activated, weakening Masato's senses to the lowest possible threshold.
Crack!
Blake surged forward with alarming speed, twisting Masato's wrist and disarming him.
Pivoting on his heel, Blake executed a flawless over-the-shoulder throw, slamming Masato onto the ground with brutal force.
Thud!
The dull sound of impact was followed by a blood-curdling scream as Masato's body crumpled on the pavement, pain radiating from his wrist, back, and the area he'd injured before.
