Chapter 19: Chapter 19 • Utaha and Its Hidden Thoughts
"Rias-onee sama!"
Walking through the school back to class 3-A, Rias received several admiring glances, mainly from girls. Meanwhile, the boys cast lustful glances at her breasts, which swayed continuously as she walked. Used to this, Rias walked with confidence and a subtle smile on her face.
When she reached the classroom, she didn't see Light or Sona.
"Rias, shall we go to the clubroom?"
Rias turned and looked at Akeno. Seeing her with a smile and her eyes closed, which made her expression even gentler, Rias sighed.
"I've wasted enough time already," she said. "Let's eat in the classroom, Akeno."
"Yes, buchou~," Akeno opened her eyes, revealing beautiful violet eyes.
When Rias stood with her back to her, Akeno let out a giggle, "Fufufu~", and closed her eyes again.
Meanwhile, Light, whom Rias hadn't seen in the classroom on his return, was now in a situation of the utmost importance...
Hakata or Hirosaki.
Light couldn't decide which to choose...
Okay, it wasn't that big of a deal; it just so happens that he likes them both, but Hakata and Hirosaki's versions of gyoza are different, with Hakata offering a thinner, crispier gyoza, and Hirosaki presenting a thicker version.
"Choose soon, there are more people in line!"
Hearing this, Light looked back and then turned forward again. So he ended up choosing the Hirosaki gyoza.
After paying, he looked for a free spot. When he received the plate of Hirosaki gyoza, Light saw a familiar figure and walked over to her.
"Can I sit here?" Light asked.
In front of him was Utaha, who was eating alone around a table.
"Oh, Mr. Popular." Utaha looked up, meeting his brown eyes. She looked a little jealous. "Didn't you have an appointment with the beautiful Rias Gremory?"
"Geh, so sour." Light teased, "Are you jealous?"
"Q-Who's jealous?" She denied it as she stammered, her voice even a little higher.
Utaha, seeing him give her a cheeky grin, felt a strong urge to kick his leg.
'Light, how much are you going to embarrass me until you're satisfied?' Utaha thought, but masked her thoughts with a neutral expression.
However, she wasn't fooling anyone; Light could clearly see her cheeks flush slightly as she maintained this façade.
"Well?" Utaha looked him in the eye again.
"So, what?" Light pretended to be misunderstood.
"You know what I want to know," she said. "What did Rias Gremory want with you?"
"Sorry, I can only reveal that to my girlfriend..." Light gave her a helpless look as he sat down. He put the tray on the table and continued: "But, unfortunately, I'm single, so I'm afraid I can't talk about it any time soon."
"Um, I know..." Utaha scoffed, her eyes tightening: "I pretend I believe that's your reason for not talking, so as not to lose the friendship."
Her expression described her feelings very well. It was as if she doubted that this really was a valid reason.
Of course, she understood that he had only said that to provoke her, so she decided not to fall into the trap and, even though she was curious, she didn't ask any more about it.
"By the way, Mr. Popular," she changed the subject, "have you heard about Scream's YouTube channel?"
Hearing this question, Light was a little surprised, but masked it well with a smile of feigned curiosity: "Yes, I have. Why? Has anything interesting happened in connection with it?"
"Nothing much," she said. "I just think that 'his' videos are very good and realistic. In fact, it's quite useful to watch 'his' videos for reference when writing a fight scene."
"That makes sense," Light nodded and asked: "There are even rumors going around that it's real or very well done special effects. What do you think, Utaha? Is it true or false?"
"Huh..."
Seeing her ponder, Light began to eat quietly, giving her time to think.
"I think it's true... No, no, how can there be such a thing?" At the same time as Utaha wanted to say it was true, she shook her head in denial. Then she sighed: "Well, I must admit it's good enough to make me want to believe it's real."
Light wiped his mouth as he finished chewing and then gave a simple smile.
"Whatever it is," said Light, "the aim of Scream videos should be to entertain subscribers. Since you're like this, to the point where you can't even tell if it's real or fake, it proves that the creator of this content has, in a way, achieved his goal."
"To be entertained..."
Utaha murmured in contemplation.
Yes, she started to think about it and thought that what Light said made sense. Wasn't it the same with her, wanting the readers of her light novels to have an immersion that makes them unable to distinguish between what's real and what's fake?
"All right, Mr. Know-It-All," she changed his nickname again, with a smile, without altering her expression much: "Yes, I started to think that too. Actually, now that you've said it, it makes sense to think so."
"Doesn't it?" said Light, pointing his chopsticks at her, before picking up a hirosaki gyoza with his chopsticks.
Seeing him start to eat again, Utaha did the same.
━━━━━━━━
Half past four in the afternoon, Light arrived in front of the abandoned church.
When he arrived, Light entered as naturally as before, transforming himself into particles of light, breaking through the gaps in the barrier and entering the abandoned church.
Sensing the presence of everyone in the center of the church, Light made his way there.
"Light-sama!"
When his presence was noticed, Kalawarna and Mittelt stopped what they were doing.
It seemed to be Observation Haki training, as Asia and Raynare were wearing white blindfolds while Kalawarna and Mittelt threw tennis balls in their direction.
Hearing Mittelt call out to Light-sama, Raynare removed the white blindfold covering her eyes.
Standing up, Raynare curved her lips into a smile: "Welcome back, Light-sama~"
"Mm," Light nodded with a nasal hum. "I see you're progressing well."
Light walked towards her.
When he arrived in front of her, he patted her on the head, she being a little shorter than him at almost 170 cm, 175 with her 5 cm black long boots.
Unaccustomed to such a gesture, although she didn't want to, Raynare blushed. She only scolded herself a little for showing such an expression in front of Kalawarna and Mittelt.
As for Asia, well, she had only just removed the white blindfold from her eyes.
"Light-sama, welcome~" Asia's voice was as sweet and gentle as ever.
However, Light frowned. He sensed something different about her.
It wasn't a change after training; it was something more to do with her emotional state.
Light was very sensitive about this.
