Chapter 3: chapter 3 : Rias
Ryuhei sat still, his eyes staring blankly into the void, while Ashborn, the soul sealed within his Sacred Gear, spoke softly. The space in the small room seemed compressed by the tension between the two.
"What are you searching for, Ryuhei?" Ashborn asked, his voice echoing in Ryuhei's mind, as if the surrounding space had become a part of this invisible conversation.
Ryuhei closed his eyes, trying to control the anger rising within him. Unanswered questions always made him uneasy. "I want to know about my past. Who killed my mother? And… who is my father? Why do I know nothing about him?"
Silence filled the room. Each word he spoke seemed to cut through the stillness, but Ashborn couldn't answer. Ryuhei felt a sudden surge of disappointment, enveloping his soul like an inescapable darkness.
Ashborn sighed, his voice deep and filled with regret. "Ryuhei… I can't help you. Questions about your past… they cannot be answered at this moment. I… was sealed long before you were born, and only awakened when you turned 15. What I know are mere fragments, broken memories that cannot be pieced together into a complete story."
Ryuhei sighed, feeling the emptiness inside him. He didn't know where to begin; the unanswered questions tormented his mind.
"So what should I do?" Ryuhei asked, his voice firm, trying to hide his helplessness.
Ashborn was silent for a moment before responding. "You cannot rush, Ryuhei. The answers will come when you are strong enough to face them. First, master your own power, as well as the power you hold from Eclipse."
Once again, Ryuhei sighed. Ashborn's words didn't provide any concrete answers, but at least they made him feel somewhat relieved. After all, he couldn't continue searching in the darkness without any hope.
The next morning, as the sunlight streamed through the classroom window, Ryuhei walked into class as usual. He wasn't someone who stood out much, but all eyes still couldn't help but be drawn to him. Born with a handsome appearance and a masculine aura, Ryuhei was always the center of attention. His handsome face, high nose, and mismatched eyes—one black, the other a fiery red—made him stand out in any crowd. His strange beauty wasn't just from his looks, but from something mysterious deep inside, an aura that made it impossible for people to look away. Moreover, the stubble around his chin only added to his masculinity, creating an image that was both powerful and alluring.
As always, the boys and girls in class quickly tried to approach him, striking up conversations and asking questions. But Ryuhei didn't pay much attention to the chatter around him, casually walking to his seat. Life went on, and those trivial conversations couldn't cloud his mind at that moment.
As Ryuhei sat down at his desk, he noticed the gaze of two prominent girls in class fixed on him. Rias Gremory and Akeno Himejima—two names that every student at the school knew. No matter who they were, the fact that they were paying attention to Ryuhei made many people feel a bit envious. Both of these beautiful girls always attracted the attention of the crowd, but today, their gazes seemed more intense than ever.
Rias, with her red hair shimmering like flames, slowly approached him, her bright green eyes sparkling with curiosity. Akeno, with her gentle yet alluring beauty, stood beside her, offering a soft smile as though waiting for something.
"Ryuhei-kun," Rias spoke, her voice gentle but confident, "We'd like to invite you to our Occult Research Club after school. There are a few things we'd like to discuss with you."
Rias' invitation startled many in the class, especially the boys, who had always admired her. The fact that two famous girls like them would personally invite a new student to join their club caused a stir. Curious glances and admiration shifted toward Ryuhei, but he remained calm, not allowing the attention to affect him.
Ryuhei nodded, not appearing particularly surprised by their invitation. He was used to being the center of attention, but deep down, he felt something strange was happening. These invitations weren't as simple as ordinary encounters. And he couldn't help but wonder—why him? Why had they chosen him to invite into their club?
The bell rang, and the class ended quickly. Ryuhei walked with Rias and Akeno to the Occult Research Club. As they entered, Ryuhei met Koneko. They exchanged greetings before Rias invited Ryuhei to sit, while Akeno went to prepare tea.
"Hello," Ryuhei smiled, nodding at the small girl.
"Hello, Ryuhei-senpai," Koneko replied briefly, her gaze cold but welcoming.
Rias sat down across from Ryuhei. "You can wait a moment; I'll explain later," she said gently.
Ryuhei looked around the room and asked, "What's the purpose of this meeting?"
"Wait a bit," Rias replied, her eyes gleaming with a mischievous sparkle. "We're waiting for one more person."
After a moment, Kiba entered with Issei. Kiba smiled and nodded at Ryuhei.
Issei sat next to Ryuhei, his eyes filled with curiosity. He knew about the famous senpai sitting next to him. Issei nodded at him, and Ryuhei responded briefly, feeling that the situation was a bit strange.
"Do you two know why I invited you here?" Rias asked, causing Issei to feel awkward, while Ryuhei just shrugged.
Rias began to explain: "The world we live in isn't just populated by humans. There are three main factions: demons, angels, and fallen angels. Each faction has its own conflict, the climax being the civil war among the three factions…" Rias continued, telling them everything related to the three factions.
Issei was shocked, his eyes widening. "Wait, why are you telling us this?" he asked.
Ryuhei, in his mind, had already guessed. "I assume everyone in this room is a demon," he said casually, as if it were obvious.
Rias smiled, her demon wings extending from her back, creating a dangerous yet proud aura. "That's right, we are demons."
Ryuhei couldn't help but laugh, teasing, "So it's cosplay, huh? CGI?"
Akeno chuckled lightly, while Rias simply smiled calmly. "This isn't cosplay, Ryuhei-kun. This is reality."
Rias continued, "Yuuma was actually a fallen angel. And yesterday, Issei was truly killed."
Issei was so shocked that he couldn't speak, his eyes wide open. "What did you say? I was killed?"
"But I resurrected you with an Evil Piece, turning you into a pawn in my Peerage. Don't worry though. The Gremory family is famous for treating our servants like family. I will treat you as part of my family, Issei-kun," Rias explained.
"But why was I killed?" Issei asked.
"It was because of your Sacred Gear," Rias began to explain the concept of Sacred Gears to Issei. This made Issei even more shocked.
Issei looked at Rias and asked, still confused, "So why did a fallen angel kill me? Just because I have a Sacred Gear?"
Rias sighed. "Yes. Can you try summoning your Sacred Gear? Focus on the power inside you."
Issei followed Rias' instructions and successfully summoned his Sacred Gear—a glowing red glove. "Here it is," he said, staring at the glove, his face full of questions.
Ryuhei sat silently, but now, Issei turned to him, a suspicious look in his eyes. "Wait, you have a reason for being here too, right? Is it for the same reason as me?"
Ryuhei immediately shook his head and replied, "No, it's not. I don't know why I'm here. It's just… she invited me."
Curious about Ryuhei, Rias began to ask more questions. "So who are you? Or rather, what's your race?"
Ryuhei thought for a moment and lied, "I'm just an ordinary human. That's all."
Rias wasn't fully convinced, but she didn't press further. "You can easily dodge fallen angel attacks, which is very unusual for an ordinary human. Do you possess a Sacred Gear?" she asked, curious.
Ryuhei nodded. "I have a Sacred Gear. But it only awakened recently."
"Ryuhei-kun, can you tell us about your Sacred Gear?"
He answered briefly, "I won't. Everyone has their own secrets, Rias-san. Especially since I don't know if I can trust you guys."
"Ara ara, it seems like Ryuhei-kun is a bit paranoid. We're classmates, after all," Akeno spoke up.
But Ryuhei just shrugged and said, "And until now, I've just learned that my classmates aren't human."
Rias felt a bit dissatisfied but still smiled. "Well then. I won't force it." She gently changed the subject. "I'd like to invite you to join my Peerage. With me, you'll gain strength, power, and… women…" Rias continued to explain, but Ryuhei just shrugged and smiled lightly.
"I'm not interested. It's not that I don't appreciate your offer, but I have my own plans."
