Chapter 1: Chapter 1
Chapter 1
I sit there, gasping for breath, staring blankly at the screen in front of me.
"You have been reborn! Congratulations!
I am the Transferring Immigration and Supplementary Enlightened System! But you can call me DICE!"
I look around into a completely dark void of nothingness, and the only thing I can see is the screen in front of me and the dark outline of what is presumably my body.
"Why "Transferable Immigration and Supplemental Enlightenment System," you ask? Well, my creators wanted an acronym that spelled Dice! Simple, right?"
"Dice?... but your full abbreviation means DICE. Plural."
There is a reason for this madness, but the important thing is that this system allows you to become a D&D character! Unbelievable, right?! However, this is not a normal D&D system, you definitely don't get experience with it... but you do get something called "Electrum".
We'll get to that in a moment! First, let's create you, okay?
A blank screen appears in front of me, looking something like a list of features
"If you haven't noticed yet, DICE automatically configures itself for the system you're most familiar with."
Name:
Level: 0
Class: No
Race: Human
Statistics:
Strength: 0
Dexterity: 0
Stamina: 0
Intelligence: 0
Wisdom: 0
Charisma: 0
"Right now you might have a few thoughts going through your head, the first being, "Why am I not dead? A living being with zero in all stats literally cannot function." Well, it's pretty simple. This is a tutorial, friend! There are no rules! So, let's find out your starting stats, shall we?
The sound of dice rolling from somewhere makes me jump. It's the first sound I've heard since I got here. I can't believe I was scared of dice with dots on them.
Statistics 1:11!
Statistics 2:16!
Stats 3:14!
Stats 4:14!
Statistics 5:14!
Stats 6:12!
"Why don't we choose your class next? After that, we'll randomly select your starting world from our database!"
Not bad, not bad. At least decent statistics.
"Well... this might be a little interesting."
So, class. What if I went to a world without magic? That would instantly make me an all-powerful, top-tier being, just by being able to use a magic missile.
The real question is...what should I choose?
*****************************************
"You have 1450 electrums left."
You might be wondering what this "Electrum" is... well, basically it's this weird currency that I can use to buy things from the "shop", these items can range from beast corpses, magic items, and even companions, all the way to skills, feats, attribute points, and level ups.
I have so much electrum because I agreed to have quite a few drawbacks... but most of them were negated by my high stats and removed, so it's basically just free currency!
All that's left is "weak will", which is balanced out by the fact that I chose the caster class, and the biggest flaw of all... "Child".
Yeah, I was forced to create this totally cool, handsome man and then watch him turn into a 13-year-old kid.
Minus four to my strength and constitution, plus four to agility.
All I've bought so far is a one-level upgrade, and it was incredibly cheap. Just a hundred electrum.
The main problem is that it takes four hundred electrum to reach level three. And who knows how much level four costs.
Now I have a burning question: should I spend electrum on my stats or should I level up a little more?
Name:
Level: 2
Class: Sorcerer
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Statistics:
Hp: 10/10
Armor class: 15
Strength: 10 (14)
Dexterity: 18 (14)
Stamina: 10 (14)
Intelligence: 12
Wisdom: 11
Charisma: 18 (16+2)
I might have enough to get to level four... unless the price is quadrupled every time...
I rest my chin on my chest, looking down at my body. I'm short, a little skinny, wearing a dirty t-shirt and simple cargo pants. I have black hair that's about an inch long, and dark purple eyes.
I chuckle and shrug. "Eh, screw it. Even if I can't get to level four, I'll still have a ton of electrum, my health will increase, and my bloodline power will increase.
I buy another level, getting four more health and an additional choice of skill, which I haven't decided on yet.
"Can I buy level four?"
"Level-up cost: 900 electrum."
YES. Yes, I can.
It seems that to level up I have to spend an amount of electrum equal to the previous level squared times a hundred. One times one times a hundred to get to level two, two times two times a hundred to get to level three, and three times three times a hundred to get to level four.
If I'm right, it will take one thousand six hundred units of currency to reach level five.
I buy my next level and try to buy another one.
"You don't have enough electrum to purchase another level!
Requires 1600 Electrum to level up
Electrums remaining: 150"
Well then let's see how much we can improve some characteristics.
So, to bring my strength to twelve, I will need... forty electrum.
To increase dexterity to twenty you will need... also forty electrums.
I blink slowly.
To raise my charisma to nineteen, I would need one hundred and sixty electrum.
I don't get it. Does the cost depend on which stat is most important to me? But then, why is my agility boost so cheap...
I prop my chin up, lost in my thoughts.
Maybe it's based on... basic characteristics?
I have plus four to my agility and minus four to my strength, but technically they are both fourteen.
Hmm. Strange.
I look at my two lowest stats, wisdom and intelligence.
Both cost forty elethrums to level up.
Maybe the cost is quadrupled after a certain level? Hmm. I'll have to raise my charisma a bit more to see if that works.
Screw it. I spend electrums, increasing my strength to eleven, and agility to twenty, and spend the rest on combat spells.
And lastly I choose the name.
"Are you done with your character?"
"Yes".
Character creation is complete. Let's choose a world.
Randomization.
Randomization.
Randomization.
Selected world: DxD.
Randomization of the starting location.
"Very Hard" start selected. Race changed. Now you have the option to go back to your character list and change it.
"A?"
Randomization at home.
Randomization.
Randomization.
Randomization.
A double house has been selected.
I blink slowly and look at my character again.
Last name has been changed.
