Chapter 303 Dazed and confused

After purchasing some clothes from his souvenir shop for Cassandra and Luna, the former proceeded to explain Uriel what happened while he was out.

Without knowing about Water warlock's existence, Cassandra was greatly surprised by the fact that Uriel had no memory of what transpired and she described it as though it was all him.

When the eclipse appeared and everything seemed lost, Uriel simply commanded the creature to disappear and it complied, but instead of vanishing into thin air the horror level cryptid used Mark as a host and ran into the wilderness.

After that, Uriel crouched down near Luna and offered her a shimmering vial of 'water' that healed her completely and when Cassandra realized she wouldn't get any, she cornered him and insisted in getting some too.

Although she didn't know it, it wasn't Uriel the one she talked to but the ancestral man that possessed him. Had it not been for the effect that Uriel's emotions had on him, not only he wouldn't have shared the mystical water from the fountain of eternal youth with her, he would have wiped her from the face of the earth.

"Crap, so Mark ran away!" Uriel cursed out loud.

"Yes, but I don't think he'll be bothering us any time soon. He seemed really scared." Cassandra replied.

"Us? There's no us. In fact, why are you even walking along with us?"

"Y-you saved my life." Cassandra blushingly replied.

"Uhm... let her come with us, I don't want her going back by herself."

"Fine, but if she gets on my way, I'm ditching her." Uriel grunted.

Since they were ambushed mid way by Mark, the distance towards the city wasn't that big and they were able to arrive before noon. As soon as they reached the gate they all felt relieved, but that only lasted until the usually aloof guards became anxious when confirming their identities.

"It seems there's an issue with the card reader." One of the guards blurted out.

"Yeah, I'll call the technician. Please wait here while we sort this issue." The other guard excused himself and rushed inside.

"Something's off." Uriel whispered to Luna who hadn't let go of his arm all morning.

Cassandra's eyes became sharp as she eyed the guard and she proceeded to knock him out with a single blow to the face.

"What did you do that for!? That's a crime!"

"A crime you say? That 'broken card reader' excuse is code for someone dangerous attempting to enter the city. Word about Luna must have gotten out somehow and being branded as criminals isn't nearly as bad as being branded as cryptids." Cassandra spoke as the lights turned red and the gate began closing, threatening to trap them inside the wall.

If something like that happened, they would have been forced to fight their way out and that was something none of them wanted to do, especially so close to the west Cryptid hunting agency where everyone knew them.

Uriel had now a choice in his hands. He could either fight his way into the city and sneak into the slums or he could exit the city and wait until things settled. If he was alone, the choice would have been easy, but with Cassandra and Luna by his side going unnoticed was much more difficult.

They all darted outside the city without even looking back, dodging the merciless rain of bullets fired from the top of the wall. Luckily for them, the lack of rangers caused most of the posts to be unmanned and the only guns that fired at them were the autoturrets. They were powerful, but better equipped to deal with large targets as their accuracy wasn't good enough to hit people with traits.

Hiding in the wilderness was no issue for them, but they were well aware that not long after some hunters may be sent their way and there was no telling about what traits they could possess. While not all traits were combat related, traits that could help track fugitives were widely spread.

After finding a somewhat secure hiding spot, they remained silent and completely still as though someone was looking directly at them. They knew they were being pursued, but not knowing who exactly was going after them took a toll on their mental state.

It could be the government, Mark's family, the Celes company, nothing would have surprised them, or so they thought until an airship soared the skies heading directly towards them at an incredible speed.

"Shit! It's the Mapple corp!" Cassandra grabbed Luna and began a desperate race and Uriel followed soon after.

"How did they know about us?" Uriel asked confounded.

"It must have been Mark, that bastard must have ratted us out. He always bragged about having contacts within the Mapple corp." Cassandra bit her lips in frustration.

The zeppelin chasing after them was way too fast and the only way they would have been able to escape was if Uriel activated Dash and Luna turned into a werewolf, but even then it was unlikely that they all made it.

"Keep running." Uriel said as he turned back wait for the menacing ship to land in hopes of giving Luna a chance to escape. Cassandra was visibly moved by his gesture, but Luna released herself from her sister's embrace and ran towards Uriel.

As the zeppelin drew near they noticed it wasn't nearly as big as the one they've been to before, but that only made things worse as it was much faster.

Realizing that running away was useless, Luna stood by Uriel and grabbed his hand as they all readied themselves for battle.

"What are you idiots doing out there!? Hurry up inside!" Sam shouted as soon as the landing bay opened.

"What is this?"

"This, is our zeppelin. I made it myself!" Medusa showed a bright smile that turned into stone once she saw Luna who cowered behind Uriel, aware that Nika must have told her about her hybrid nature.

"Ahem, how long are you going to keep holding his hand?" Medusa glared at Luna, who only then noticed the reason why Medusa frowned after seeing her was because she was jealous.
