Chapter 133 Betrayal

Seiren was still flying through the air when Uriel's dash skill was deactivated. The reason why she felt so heavy was because with his enhanced speed, all of his movements required a lot more strength as the force applied would be the same but in much less time. In fact, if Uriel used just a bit more strength, her life could have been in danger.

What seemed like almost a full minute to Uriel, was only a second, but in that short second the table was broken, Seiren had been thrown far from them and Uriel's hand was caught in Jon's tight grip.

Now that his speed was back to normal, Uriel couldn't help but be amazed at the incredible reaction speed displayed by Jon. Somehow, he was able to block Uriel's attempt without even so much as stop his reading.

Uriel, though, didn't know Jon was actually a holy rank Hunter. After all, only a bunch of people in the Mapple corporation knew what was Jon's rank and Uriel was under the impression that the reason why he ordered Seiren to restrain him was because he himself couldn't fight.

Uriel's attempt of retrieving the diary and running away was foiled and all of his hopes were shattered, but there wasn't any hope for him from the beginning as there was nothing an ascended could do against a holy rank hunter. Even Uriel's enhanced speed was about the average movement speed of someone on Jon's level.

Nevertheless, both Uriel and Jon remained silent for a few seconds, pondering about each other's fighting prowess.

Jon was just as amazed as Uriel was because he didn't expect a beginner hunter, someone that started as an evolved no less, to be able to use a skill before even reaching the heavenly rank. Something like that was completely unheard of and he had many questions he wanted to ask, but before he could someone entered the cafeteria.

It was a tall woman wearing a sleek daydress and a lovely hat decorated with a flower and had the looks of a second generation rich woman. She was evidently as wealthy as she was beautiful, and she was very wealthy. Her heels resonated in the awkward silence that befell the place, then she spoke with a commanding voice.

"Call father and tell him I'm ready to meet with him. Also, inform grandfather I'm here, I want to see him before departing." She instructed her female bodyguard.

"Certainly." The female bodyguard nodded and took out her cellphone to fulfill her duty.

"Nikki?" Jon asked lifting an eye brow inquisitively.

"It's Nika for you." Nika Garcia, the female bodyguard accompanying the wealthy woman, scoffed at Jon.

"Medusa?" Uriel muttered in disbelief, though the lovely rich woman ignored him altogether.

Uriel couldn't believe his eyes, it wasn't just that he never expected his friend to have such a snobbish fashion sense, but also because she was the last person he thought he'd see there.

When Uriel attempted to speak again Medusa's eyes glistened in a cold crimson light as he glared at him. As he looked at her in the eye and her face seemingly distorted into a thousand different figures, though no change actually occurred, then Uriel was sent into the depths of his inner worst fears.

He saw visions of himself alone in a void place seemingly made of pure darkness, sitting on top of a pile of treasures of gold and silver. Inside his vision his face was devoid of all emotion while he reigned over the incredible treasures.

He then saw himself tied to a hospital bed while a thousand insects of all kinds and sizes crawled on top of him, some even came out of his clothes and he couldn't yell or move. But the worst had yet to come.

The next vision he saw was of himself standing on top of the golden pyramid on 'El dorado' and Water warlock was in front of him wielding the orichalcum dagger. The hulking man then stabbed him on the chest and carved Uriel's heart out, only to lift the still beating organ in the air at the precise moment of a solar eclipse.

Then, right before the last beam of light was covered by the moon, Water warlock took a bite out of Uriel's heart and, somehow, Uriel could feel the pain of being eaten alive.

What followed was just flashing pictures of Water warlock biting on his heart as blood painted his teeth in crimson red, and he was smiling. That smile... that smile was of pure, grotesque joy.

Every fiber on Uriel's body started twitching at the same time and he fell limp like a ragdoll while still hanging from Jon Hunter's grip. The veteran archaeologist was also shocked by the appearance of both Nika and Medusa, making him completely forget about Uriel's presence.

It was the first time Medusa ever used her trait on Uriel and he felt in his flesh and bone the ominous qualities of her powerful trait. Even though no harm came to him, he wished he died as no pain he ever experienced was nearly close to what Medusa's trait, petrifying glare, put him through.

Medusa kept walking, without paying any heed to the tormented Uriel, but even in his pitiful state he was still able to speak a single word out of his foaming mouth.

"Why?"

Whether she heard him or not, he couldn't tell. Even if he wanted to stand up or turn his head, he couldn't move. He could still see and hear, but he couldn't move a finger.

"Winnie!?" Walter work's voice was heard at a distance, snapping Jon out of his reverie and he let go of Uriel to approach the old man who also showed up. Thanks to that, Uriel was finally able to see what was going on.

"Grandfather, I am here to fulfill my duty." Medusa said as she performed a gracious reverence to her beloved grandfather.

"I am so glad to see you, it's been so long. Gramps has missed you so much." Walter said squinting his teary eyes.

"I've missed you too, but why aren't you on the zeppelin? You need to take care of your health." Medusa scolded the old man with a cute tone of voice, making him flinch.

Now that everyone was focusing on Walter and Medusa, Nika took the chance to grab Uriel and carry him outside by wrapping his arm over her shoulder. Before stepping outside, Nika turned back and directed one last look towards Medusa.

The glass door closed behind her and she mixed with the crowd.
