Chapter 28: Chapter 28: The First Strike
The cool night air was heavy with anticipation as Jiho, Haeun, and Sanghoon approached the outskirts of Daehyun's hidden facility. The facility was nestled deep in the forest, its perimeter illuminated by bright floodlights and patrolled by armed guards. From their vantage point, the trio could see the movement of mercenaries and hunters, their presence a stark reminder of Daehyun's growing influence.
"This is more fortified than I expected," Sanghoon muttered, lowering his binoculars. "Daehyun's not taking any chances."
Haeun crouched beside him, her blade resting against her knee. "Good. If he's this paranoid, it means we're getting under his skin."
Jiho remained silent, his gaze fixed on the facility. His shadows moved restlessly, reflecting his simmering determination. "We stick to the plan," he said finally. "Distraction, infiltration, sabotage. We can't afford mistakes."
Setting the Stage
Sanghoon took out a small device from his bag, a compact gadget with blinking lights and a digital interface. "This will disrupt their comms," he explained. "Once it's active, they won't be able to call for reinforcements. We'll have a short window to get in and out."
Haeun smirked. "Short's all we need."
Jiho nodded, his shadows receding as he focused on the task ahead. "Haeun, you take the north side and create a distraction. Sanghoon, you're with me. We'll hit the generator and overload their defenses. When the power goes down, regroup at the central warehouse."
"Got it," Haeun said, already on the move.
Sanghoon hesitated, his gaze flickering to Jiho. "Are you sure about this? If Daehyun's really here…"
"He won't see us coming," Jiho replied coldly. "And if he does, he'll regret it."
The Distraction
Haeun moved like a ghost through the trees, her blade glinting faintly in the moonlight. As she approached the northern edge of the facility, she spotted a small group of guards stationed near a supply truck. With calculated precision, she threw a smoke bomb into their midst, the thick plume of gray smoke causing chaos.
"What the—?!" one guard shouted, coughing as he reached for his weapon.
Before he could react, Haeun struck, her blade slicing through the air with lethal efficiency. The guards fell one by one, their cries of alarm echoing across the facility.
Inside, the mercenaries scrambled to respond, their movements disorganized in the confusion. Floodlights swiveled wildly, illuminating nothing but the swirling smoke.
Infiltration
Jiho and Sanghoon used the chaos to their advantage, slipping past the distracted guards and making their way toward the generator building. The shadows cloaked them, shifting and bending to obscure their presence.
"This is almost too easy," Sanghoon whispered as they reached the building's entrance.
"Don't get cocky," Jiho replied, his voice low. "Daehyun didn't get this far by underestimating his enemies."
The generator room was heavily secured, its metal doors locked with both physical and digital safeguards. Sanghoon quickly set to work, his fingers flying over the control panel as he bypassed the security protocols.
"Almost there…" he muttered, beads of sweat forming on his brow.
Jiho stood guard, his shadows bristling as he sensed movement nearby. The faint sound of footsteps grew louder, and he tightened his grip on his dagger.
"Hurry up," Jiho hissed.
"Got it!" Sanghoon exclaimed as the door unlocked with a soft click.
They slipped inside, the hum of the massive generator filling the room. Sanghoon immediately began planting explosives along the generator's base, his movements swift and precise.
Sabotage
Outside, Haeun continued to wreak havoc, her presence keeping the guards occupied. She darted through the facility, cutting down anyone who crossed her path.
Meanwhile, Jiho and Sanghoon completed their task, the explosives primed and ready.
"Let's move," Jiho said, leading the way back toward the central warehouse.
As they exited the generator building, the first explosion rocked the facility. The lights flickered and went out, plunging the area into darkness.
"Now they're blind," Jiho muttered, a faint smirk tugging at his lips.
A Dangerous Encounter
The trio regrouped at the central warehouse, their mission nearly complete. But as they prepared to make their escape, a figure emerged from the shadows, his presence radiating authority and menace.
"Going somewhere?"
It was Daehyun.
Jiho's shadows coiled protectively around him as he faced the Silver Fang leader. Haeun and Sanghoon flanked him, their weapons drawn.
"Daehyun," Jiho said, his voice cold and unyielding.
Daehyun smirked, his gaze sweeping over the trio. "You've caused quite a mess. I should've known you'd resort to sabotage."
Jiho took a step forward, his eyes narrowing. "And you should've known I'd never let you win."
The tension was palpable, the air charged with the promise of violence.
"You're outnumbered," Daehyun said, his smirk widening. "Surrender now, and I might consider letting you live."
Jiho's expression didn't waver. "I don't surrender. Ever."
