Driven to Despair, teleported to Danger

Chapter 4: Shattered Peace

The insistent hammering on the door shattered the fragile peace of Sarah's apartment, sending a jolt of adrenaline coursing through my veins.

"Put on your clothes and hide under the bed," Sarah hissed, her voice low and urgent.

She thrust a crumpled pile of clothes into my hands, her eyes wide with a mixture of fear and determination. I scrambled to obey, pulling on my clothes with trembling fingers, the pounding on the door growing louder with each passing second.

Sarah opened the door, a steely resolve hardening her features. Standing on the threshold was Luca, flanked by two imposing figures – his bodyguards. It was a surreal sight. Sarah's apartment, a sanctuary of tranquility and luxury, now felt like a fortress under siege.

"Sorry, sweetie, but I'm taking him away for a while," Luca announced, his voice a low growl. "So, where is he?"

"If you're talking about Leon, I dropped him near his house." Sarah lied, her voice deceptively calm.

It was Luca along with some of his bodyguards. Sarah lived alone in an apartment which had very tight security so she didn't needed any bodyguards. It would've been quite difficult for Luca to come here.

"I'm here, Luca." I said as I got out from under the bed.

Sarah's gaze flickered towards me, a silent question hanging in the air.

Sarah must be thinking that Luca has come here to disturb us. As far as I know, Luka never goes anywhere without a solid reason.

If he himself came here, there must have been some big reason behind it.

Also, There was no use of Sarah lying to Luca. If Luca came here for me, then he must have made sure that I am here.

"Idiot," Luca growled, his eyes blazing with anger. "Why weren't you answering my calls?"

Sarah stepped in front of him, her body language a silent but fierce challenge.

"It's not unusual for a friend to miss a few calls, is it?" she retorted, her voice laced with defiance.

Luca did not pay any attention to what She was saying and started walking past her, towards me.

Sarah tried to stop him but Luca pushed her sideways, due to which she fell. He was stressed, his eyes bloodshot. He was scanning the room with his eyes like it was some kind of enemy territory.

"Are you alright? You almost gave me a heart attack." Luca asked me.

Yeah but, why?

BANG*

"Leon!!"

"Leon!!"

I felt a searing pain explode on my head, a wave of dizziness washing over me. The world tilted precariously, then plunged into darkness. I saw Sarah rushing towards me, her face contorted with grief. I saw Luca, his face pale, tears streaming down his face. I had never seen Luca cry before.

Both of them screamed in unison, their voices feared with terror

I started losing my consciousness. Both Sarah and Luca ran for me but Luca was pulled back by his bodyguards.

"Let me go! This is an order!!" Luca shouted.

I looked at everyone one by one, no one had a gun. It's almost impossible to bring a gun in this apartment in the first place.

The bullet came from right side, Means outside of the window. I was about to fall, just when Sarah hugged me.

She must not have came here!

She was crying. Is this how a normal human behaves when a person dies in front of them?

I can see Luca too, there were tears in his eyes. He was crying. It was the first time I saw Luca cry since we met.

So even this cold, calculating devil is capable of feelings too.

"Leon, why are you smiling?" Sarah whispered, her voice choked with sobs.

Just when I closed my eyes.

BANG*

and the world slipped away, leaving me adrift in a sea of darkness.
