Chapter 5: Skyler : Stage-5 Mage Class Adventurer
The Nation of Zelpher was one of the eleven 'Great Kingdoms'. It was a vast land like the other nations. One-fourth of its territory consisted of massive barren land— expanse leading to the mountain side. The remaining three directions were bordered by the most dangerous forest— Al-Tumir.
Various magical beasts as well as monsters lurked within the forest. Some were infamous for the threat they possessed, others for the valuable materials they dropped and few for their delicacy. Attaining any of this, comes with a sweat-breaking effort.
To regulate their activities and rampages, a specific clan was established in the Nation of Zelpher; the Vanguard Clan. Since the nation was enormous and difficult to monitor, the clan was divided into eight division. The HQ which was located in the royal capital, oversaw the activities of all divisions.
One of the divisions was Lower-Eastern Vanguard Clan where Skyler was headed. He, now stood before the majestic-looking building.
The structure was immense, spanning three floors and impeccably maintained. Inside the clan, there were so many adventurers with different outfits— knights, tankers, mages, archers, assassins, fighters, healers and so on. Each adventurer looked distinct from one another.
The busy adventurers deliberating on which quest to undertake with their parties. Some had just returned from quest and were reporting to the front desk while few were busy in arm-wrestling. Collecting rewards, others were headed for home, and few were headed for bars and stuffs.
Among the busy environment, Skyler— formerly known as Xan Slynger, stood nervously. He wasn't sure what exactly to do. He was bewildered.
A figure at the front desk, noticed his unfamiliar face. Having never seen him before, she intended to approach him.
As she took her each step elegantly, her twin-ponytail hair jiggled— shimmering in shiny blue. Her well-proportioned chest, her curvy figure, her well-postured back, the sweet aroma around her, attracted the other adventurers as she, with a warm and gentle smile on her face, reached Skyler.
"Hello sir. Are you, by any chance, here for your Adventurers' registration?"
She slightly leaned towards him as she asked. Her green eyes sparkled as she blinked each time with charm.
"Umm, Yes of course." Skyler stammered— startled by her sudden question.
"In that case, you're just in time. The registration window will be closing shortly. But don't worry. Your registration will be completed before that. Please follow me." She kept her sweet smile.
Skyler blushed. Though he was an adult by mental age, his body was still that of a teenager. It was natural for him to feel attracted by her based on his teenage instincts.
Hiding his blushed face, he followed her to the desk where she was working.
"Oh! I beg pardon. I forgot to introduce myself." She said gently, "I'm Sylphy Armann. I may not look like it, but I'm also the manager of this division. If you face any trouble at all, please let me know."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Armann." He bowed slightly, "I am Skyler. I'm a traveller and just entered this nation to spend some times."
"I see. That explains why I didn't recognize you earlier. Please feel free to call me Sylphy like everyone else does. By the way, which nation do you belong? I love hearing tales of the other nations." She was being enthusiastic, "Oops! My bad. I was going ahead of myself. Please forgive my manners."
"No no. that's okay." He replied, "But I'm afraid I don't have any interesting tale to share. After all, I'm just a regular villager from a remote land. My village isn't famous either."
'Thank goodness I prepared the story beforehand or I might've been in a difficult situation by now.' He thought.
She, by the way, didn't react much on his made-up story. She was not particularly surprised— nor curious anymore, and just kept preparing arrangements for his registration. She brought forth two crystal orbs on the desk— one blue and a transparent one.
"Now then, Skyler. Place your hands on the blue orb. It will evaluate you depending upon how much mana you have. If you lack mana you'll not be eligible to become an adventurer. I assume you're already aware about the policies."
He didn't know that, yet nodded as he placed his hands on the orb. Hoping to get at least the lower ranks, he thought, 'Please, even if there's a little mana within me, response. I need to become an adventurer at any cost.'
Surprisingly he had mana as the blue orb shined fabulously— a number also appeared. Sylphy was slightly shocked.
"Unbelievable!." She exclaimed, "I've never seen a person starting directly at Stage-5 rank. You're remarkable, Skyler. Tell me, have you already faced your awakening?"
"Wait, what was that again?" He looked perplexed, "I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about."
Seeing his confusion Sylphy started explaining the mechanism of Mana and Magic in that world.
******************
The people who were born with mana had a limitation on their mana preserve. Based on their potential they were divided into various stages. It were Stage-1 to Stage-4. One's stage also represented how much strength they had. And they could not level-up their stages— no matter how much they trained. Unless they hit the 'Awakened Phase'.
During someone's 'Awakened Phase', an individual's mana reserve and potential drastically increases. And they could advance into Stage-5 to Stage-9. It depends on their awakening which stage they would acquire though.
However, in some rare cases, adventurers who were awakened into Stage-10 also faces the 'Class Ascension' phase; allowing them to upgrade their classes. Like , from knights to heroes, from healers to necromancers, from a tankers to guardians, from mages to sorcerers, and so on. These were also referred as 'Hidden Classes'.
However chances to experience these phases was impossible for a person. Only some selected candidates by the church, could met the requirements.
"And, I'm shocked that you didn't even realise that you're already an awakened one. I envy you, Skyler." Sylphy remarked.
'This is going to be a hassle.' He thought, 'From the impressions of hers, it seems a big deal. I need to lay low.'
"Haa-Haa. Guess we never knew. The world is full of surprises after all." He tried to laugh it off, "So can we proceed next to the next step?"
"Oh! Right." She smiled, albeit rather awkwardly, "Now, place your hand on this orb. It will determine your class based on the colour it shows."
"Sure." He placed his hand.
The transparent orb started generating a colour inside. In an instant it was filled with jade-black colour. Sylphy was astonishingly happy. Her eyes glowed brightly as she saw the orb turning black.
The adventurers who paid them no mind till now, also gathered around him with an unimaginably happy face. They started praising.
"Wow! A black orb. He must be chosen by our Goddess! What a brilliant sight to behold!"
"Indeed. Indeed. I never imagined encountering such godly phenomena in my entire life. Now I can die peacefully."
"It's a legendary occasion. Shouldn't our clan hold a feast to welcome the chosen one."
"I agree as well. It's an once in a lifetime opportunity!"
"Indeed! we should hold a feast. Say young man, what do you prefer, meat? Booze? Or some hot ladies."
"Hay, don't ask him so directly. It is something on us to prepare."
Skyler was entirely clueless what was happening. Though the praise felt flattering, it also made him uneasy.
"Umm, excuse me." Interrupting them, he said "What exactly this colour represent? Am I that special?"
"Well of course." Sylphy replied, "The black colour only shows up for those chosen by the 'Goddess Of Creation.' And it also means your class is a mystery to us. These appraisal orbs cannot determine your value unless you wish to."
"I still don't get it. Can you please elaborate it." He looked more dumbfounded.
"Don't worry about it. Just take a deep look inside of you, you'll find your answer. Now try to concentrate."
She looked way more curious while the others halted and gave him some space.
Skyler, as instructed, closed his eyes and focused. The black colour began to form a shape. The more he focused the clearer it became. The results emerged. He belonged to mage class.
The other couldn't be happy more. They erupted in cheers. Sylphy clapped in excitement as she held Skyler's hand. He didn't believe others were happy actually because of him. Leading him to be happy as well.
He was so happy that he let his guard down once again. He didn't see the malicious grin behind their happy faces.
