Chapter 26: Raid Time All The Way
A week had passed, and the air around Ryuichi buzzed with tension. It was raid day.
He sat at the edge of his bed, fully geared, the soft glow of his enchanted daggers illuminated the dark corners of his room as he messaged MorTyous.
"Hey, MorTyous, are you ready?" Ryuichi's said
A moment later, MorTyous responded. "Yes... waiting for the summon.", "The raid group should be at the Summoning Stone by now."
The Summoning Stone—a towering stone structure surrounded by ancient runes, glowing faintly in the dim light of the forest.
"Dragon of Times would like to summon you to the Forgotten Vaults. Would you like to accept?"
Without hesitation, Ryuichi muttered, "Yes."
Suddenly, a flash of blinding light enveloped him, the world around him shifting in an instant. When the brightness faded, he found himself standing at the Summoning Altar, high atop a mountain. The air was cold and thin, the wind whipping against him. Before him stretched a vast battleground—a thousand warriors stood below, guarding the portal claimed by the Dragon of Time. Massive towers were built lining the battleground, each draped with guild banners fluttering in the wind. Tables and tents were scattered among the soldiers, marking the raiders' preparation sites and protection.
Behind him, the ruins of a once-great city lay in shadow, its crumbled buildings and fallen walls inscribed with ancient runes, glowing faintly in the fading twilight. The remnants of past battles littered the ground—shattered weapons and rusted armor, half-buried in the rubble, as if time had frozen their final moments. The eerie silence of the forgotten city pressed in on Ryuichi as he stared out at the wreckage.
He was still taking in the sight when MorTyous approached, his armor clanking softly as he walked.
"Do you know where we are?" he asked. "A thousand years ago, this place was a powerful city. It was destroyed during the Great War—the one between warlocks and vampires.". "Akista and Drecal" MorTyous continued ". They fought here. The legend says they were buried with their secrets and treasure. They clashed right here. The fight was so intense, so... devastating, that the entire city was wiped out." MorTyous gestured to the ruins, his eyes narrowing. "Both of them perished, but it is said that their remains are still somewhere beneath the rubble. But no one knows where."
"Attention everyone!" a booming voice echoed across the battleground, cutting through the murmur of raiders gathering at the Summoning Stone.
There stood, atop a stone platform, a warrior like any he had ever seen. Her armor gleamed with an otherworldly light. The runes etched into her chestplate pulsed with golden energy, ancient magic radiating from her like a tangible force. Her cape shimmered as though woven by the gods.
In her right hand, she a blade. Its darkened edge seemed to absorb the light around it, only to release a faint, fiery glow that hinted at its devastating power. Her shield, looked as if it could deflect the wrath of the gods, its surface alive with shifting, battle-hardened engravings. It was Lucy the guild master and founder of Dragon of times.
"Welcome to the 10th Raid of the Forgotten Vault!" her voice boomed, shaking the air. "This raid opens only once every 10 years, and today, we are honored to have our championship winners joining us!", "This is their first raid, so please guide and protect them."
The announcement carried a weight of responsibility. "You have two experienced raiders here to teach you and protect you, they will be today's raid leaders: Valentine and Devtex. Please listen to them and follow their orders or you may die."
A hush settled over the group as the raid leaders were named, their reputation clearly well-known among the crowd.
"This is a 20-man raid," the voice continued, "and we also have a dedicated Loot Extraction Team. They will be in charge of collecting rewards, so please refrain from farming the corpses, there will be skinners, miners and also baggers, all loots will be distributed according to the need and rank of the current raiders ."
There was a murmur of approval from the seasoned raiders, knowing they could focus purely on combat without worrying about gathering loot.
"Additionally, a special bracelet has been added to your inventory for the raid—an anti-theft bracelet. This means you will not be able to loot with it equipped, so do not worry about ninjas."
Several raiders glanced at their inventory, the bracelet already glowing with in it.
"And again, prices and loot will be distributed accordingly at the end of the raid, so pleas do not bother the raid leaders with it. Thank you, everyone, and remember—have fun and be safe."
The crowd roared in approval, the air charged with excitement and tension. Ryuichi adjusted his gear, ready to follow his raid leaders into the unknown depths of the Forgotten Vault.
"Alright, listen up!" Devtex barked, his voice carrying over the wind. "First batch of about 200 imps incoming—nothing too fancy, but if you're sloppy, they'll tear through the casters in the back."
The raid members snapped to attention, weapons drawn. Behind them, Valentine stood still, arms crossed, overseeing the raid. For the level 30 apprentice raid group, it was their chance to prove they could handle their roles under pressure.
"Tanks, up front! Pull them in clean—no over-pulling!" Devtex ordered, his eyes narrowing. The two tanks moved forward, their shields raised as they prepared to engage.
"Healers, I want you focusing on the tanks. No one goes down, got it?" Devtex continued. The healers, robed in light armor, positioned themselves behind the tanks, ready to keep them alive.
"DPS, wait until the pull is clean. Don't go charging in like idiots!" Devtex added, eyeing a few eager apprentices who were already gripping their weapons too tightly. "Let the tanks hold aggro first!"
The tension mounted as the imps scuttled closer, their guttural growls growing louder. One of the tanks, a burly warrior, raised his shield high and let out a battle cry, charging forward to pull the imps. The second tank followed suit, quickly drawing the imps' attention as their shields clanged against the ground.
"Go!" Devtex shouted, and the raid group sprang into action.
The DPS—unleashed a flurry of attacks. Arrows and spells rained down on the imps rapidly depleting as the group worked in sync.
The imps tried to swarm the tanks, clawing at their armor, but the tanks held firm, their shields absorbing the brunt of the attacks. The raid moved like a well-oiled machine, each player performing their role with practiced precision.
Valentine, standing at the back, watched silently, his sharp eyes tracking every movement. He didn't intervene; this was the apprentices' test. They needed to learn how to coordinate under pressure, and so far, they were holding their own.
"Watch your positioning!" Devtex shouted as a few imps broke off from the main group, attempting to flank the casters. "Rogues, take care of that before they get to the backline!"
Without missing a beat, Ryuichi dashed forward, intercepting the stray imps and cutting some down with the other rogues before they could cause any damage.
"Ryuichi Stealth after kill" Said Valentine
The imps' numbers dwindled, as the raid group worked together in perfect synchronization. Within minutes, the battlefield was clear, the imps reduced to smoldering ash.
Devtex smirked, wiping the sweat from his brow. "Not bad, good job," he said, his voice carrying across the raid group. "But I want the tanks to stay closer to each other. You need to hold that aggro tighter—no gaps for the imps to slip through." He glanced over at the tanks, their shields still raised, ready for the next wave.
His gaze shifted to the rogues. "And as for the rogues," he continued, his tone firm, "be careful with the strays. Don't pull unnecessary aggro. After each kill, go straight into stealth. Make sure to crowd control properly. If you're confident in your knock-out abilities, use them." He paused, eyeing the younger rogues.
"Silences, stuns, sedations—whatever you've got in your toolkit, use it wisely.
"So please, be careful. Your job is dangerous and requires a lot of agility. One wrong move, and the whole group can be overwhelmed."
As the raid pressed forward, they tore through wave after wave of demonic forces, each group more ferocious than the last.
The sounds of steel clashing, spells crackling, and war cries filled the air as the raid group synchronized their attacks, cutting down the demons with precision. Devtix barked out orders, keeping everyone in line, while Valentine stood back, observing silently, ensuring no one broke formation.
As they pushed deeper into the city, the atmosphere grew heavier, the faint glow of ancient runes lighting their path. The ruins ahead began to shift, revealing the grand silhouette of the Temple of the Priest, half-buried under the rubble.
The towering demonic guardians that protected the entrance were standing. These were no ordinary demons; their massive, armored frames radiated dark energy, and their glowing eyes locked onto the raid group with malicious intent.
"Alright, everyone, focus up!" Devtix called out, his voice sharp. "These elites won't go down easy. Tanks, hold them at the front. DPS, keep steady pressure, and for the love of the gods, don't pull aggro! Rogues, I need you to knock one out."
