Peter's jaw nearly hit the floor as he took in the vast underground community of Morlock. The place was like a hidden city beneath the surface—a maze of tunnels and repurposed structures, illuminated by dim lights strung across walls like a makeshift skyline. There were mutants of all kinds—some with extra limbs, others with scales, glowing eyes, or even features that seemed downright inhuman. Some looked up curiously at the newcomers, but most simply went about their lives, their reality one of quiet resilience.
"This is... insane," Peter muttered under his breath, his Spider-Sense tingling at the sheer number of people around. He leaned toward Aiden and whispered, "You're telling me there's been an entire underground mutant society this whole time? And nobody knows about it?"
Aiden smirked, crossing his arms. "Nobody important knows about it. The Morlocks are mutants who don't fit in up there," he gestured toward the ceiling. "Some were born looking different, others were cast out. This is their home—away from the judgment and cruelty of the surface world."
Lucy looked around with quiet concern, holding Evelyn close. "I knew mutants had it hard, but... I never imagined something like this."
Aiden nodded. "That's why they stay hidden. Up there, people look at them like they're monsters. Down here? They're just people."
Peter swallowed, still trying to wrap his head around it. "I always knew the world sucked sometimes, but this? This is next-level awful."
Before Aiden could respond, a commanding voice cut through the noise.
"Well, if it isn't the Dragon-Angel himself."
Aiden turned just as Callisto, the leader of the Morlocks, approached. She was an imposing woman, dressed in worn leathers, an eyepatch covering one eye, but her other gleamed with sharp intelligence. She stopped a few feet away, hands on her hips, looking him over like a warrior assessing a comrade.
A slow smirk spread across her face. "You made quite the mess of Magneto Didn't you, kid. I gotta say, it was beautiful hearing that pompous bastard go down." She folded her arms, her voice firm yet carrying a hint of respect. "You should know—the Morlocks will never stand against you. Not now. Not ever. I hope you feel the same."
Peter, who had been standing silently beside Aiden, suddenly tensed. His brain short-circuited.
"Wait—WHAT?!" he blurted out, spinning toward Aiden with wide eyes. "You—you fought Magneto?! Like, THE Magneto? The guy who bends metal like it's play-dough and throws tanks around like they're toys?!"
Aiden rubbed the back of his head, looking somewhat awkward. "Uh... yeah?"
Peter blinked rapidly. "Dude, when that happened, the news said it was the X-Men and the government working together! You're telling me you did that?!"
Aiden sighed, rolling his shoulders. "I don't really care who gets the credit. I did it because Magneto was hurting people. He hurt a friend of mine. That was all the reason I needed."
Peter let out a low whistle, shaking his head. "Well... note to self: always stay on Aiden's good side."
Callisto chuckled at that. "Smart thinking, Spider-Boy."
Peter who had his identity hidden, instinctively took a step back, insulted by her word. "Uh—Spider-who? It's Spider-Man Lady! Spider-Man!"
Callisto smirked but didn't push it further. Instead, she focused back on Aiden. "So, kid, I doubt you came all this way just to say hi. What do you need?"
Aiden's expression turned serious as he looked at her directly. "I need a favor, Callisto. My mom and sister… they need a place to hide. A safe place, for a little while."
Callisto barely hesitated. "Done."
Lucy looked at her in surprise. "Just like that?"
Callisto shrugged. "We look after our own. And besides..." She gave Aiden a knowing glance. 'This is an opportunity to gain a favor from the Dragon-Angel himself' "Consider it handled."
She then looked back at Aiden. "But we'll talk later. Privately."
Aiden nodded. "Fine by me."
Just then, a familiar green-scaled figure approached—a young mutant with reptilian features and a welcoming smile.
"Aiden," Anole greeted, giving him a firm nod. "Come on, I'll take you to where your family will be staying."
Aiden motioned for his mother and Evelyn to follow as they moved through the settlement, with Peter still looking overwhelmed by everything.
As they walked, Anole spoke in a reassuring tone. "You don't have to worry, Aiden. The Morlocks will do whatever it takes to keep your family safe. Nobody will touch them down here."
Aiden exhaled, finally feeling like, for the first time since everything went sideways… his family was safe.
.....
Aiden sat in Callisto's dimly lit office, leaning back in his chair with his arms crossed. The room was simple—maps, scattered papers, and a few weapons mounted on the walls. It suited her. Practical. No nonsense.
Across from him, Callisto sat with one leg crossed over the other, watching him with a calculating gaze.
"I appreciate you taking down Magneto," she finally said, resting her elbow on the armrest. "He was a problem, and you solved it. But…" She tilted her head slightly. "The vacuum didn't stay empty for long."
Aiden raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
Callisto exhaled, leaning forward. "Magneto's followers—they weren't just going to disappear. Some of them have found a new home, a new purpose. A new leader. They aren't causing anything big yet, but it's only a matter of time before they do."
Aiden tapped his fingers on the armrest. "Who's leading them?"
She smirked. "That's what I'm still figuring out. But that's not the only interesting thing that happened recently."
Aiden narrowed his eyes. "What else?"
Callisto drummed her fingers on the desk before speaking. "Someone came looking for information about you."
That made Aiden sit up straighter. "Who?"
Callisto's smirk widened. "The Scarlet Witch."
Aiden's mind immediately clicked. Wanda Maximoff. He had seen the movies, knew exactly who she was—or at least, who she could be. She was powerful. Dangerous. But he kept his expression neutral.
"She asked about me?" he said, pretending to be unimpressed.
"Oh yeah," Callisto said, stretching back lazily. "I indulged her a little. Told her what she wanted to know."
Aiden frowned. "You told her?"
Callisto waved a hand dismissively. "Relax. Not anything serious. I don't even understand you, kid. You're a damn mystery, even to me." She studied his face, waiting for a reaction.
Aiden stayed quiet for a moment, before asking, "And? What was her deal?"
Callisto's expression turned thoughtful. "Honestly? She didn't seem too bothered about her father. If anything, she seemed… interested in you."
Aiden blinked. "Interested?"
"She said she likes you," Callisto said, her smirk returning. "Not in a creepy stalker way—well, actually, I don't know. Maybe exactly in a creepy stalker way."
Aiden scoffed. "Great. Just what I needed. I'm not looking to work with weirdos like her."
Callisto chuckled. "That's cute, but she's not just some weirdo. She's an expert in a lot of things, and from what I've seen… you're dealing with something lately. You might want to think twice before pushing her away."
Aiden stayed silent, his mind racing.
Scarlet Witch. Wanda Maximoff.
What did she really want from him?
