Chapter 38: Shattered Serenity (37)
A palpable tension filled the air, for in this castle you could hear the intensifying of each footstep. The atmosphere seemed to thicken with every passing moment, the weight of unspoken anxiety building in the dimly lit corridors. The rhythmic sound of a soldier's pacing cut through the atmosphere, the boots striking the stone floor. His expression, taunt with worry, awaiting orders that would change the course of night. He was waiting outside the door as the light from the fire seemed to change every time he moved, as an impending sense of dread loomed over the entire structure, simply waiting for the storm to come.
The soldier could practically feel the bearing weight of this atmosphere, finally receiving his summons. He walked closer to the door as he looked at the two soldiers guarding. Nodding their head and allowing access to the chamber, making his way before dropping to one knee before his Lord.
" Your Lordship, " he began, his tone filled with unease. " Cesar has failed to end the life of that dreadful creature. It still roams free, waiting for an opportunity to strike. "
With a swift nod, the soldier rose and hurried to prepare his men for battle. Disappearing from view, the Castle Keeper's shadowy figure concealed by a hooded cloak lingered in the background, watching with a malicious grin. His voice, barely more than a whisper, carried a chilled message to no one but himself: " It seems Cesar has failed yet again. "
His amusement was unmistakable, for the keeper's disdain for Cesar was well known. The Castle Keeper melted into the shadows, with one final thought echoing in the darkness: " The time has come for Cesar to understand the price of his mistakes-and the consequences that follow. "
