Chapter 90: Ghost Knight

Keep her steady!" The captain bellowed from the bow of the three-masted ship.

The sailors hopped around, heeding the captain's commands. They were very much familiar with the process, but what was this heavy feeling that loomed over them?

Before them were tumultuous mountain-like waves that made even a ship like the Knuckleback tremble with fright. The ship swayed furiously, tossing a few of the sailors away from their positions.

"We've seen worse, falter not!"

"Strike the royals! We're taking her into the heart of the storm!"

Like spilled painting on a canvass, lightning dabbed the sky with a fierce blue hue, accompanied by thunderous roars. The slithering streak of blue struck fear in the hearts of the sailors on the ship.

Should a single bolt of lightning descend, neither of them had the durability to withstand such damage.

The third-mate, four-eyed Iago, landed on the deck with a loud thud and called to the captain.

"Captain! This is no ordinary storm!"

The captain turned around and flashed a grin. His heavy, brownish beard swayed slightly as he said, "Can't yer feel it, mate?"

He turned around once more, standing at the very edge of the bow. With a somewhat fanatical smile, he stretched his arms wide and bellowed,

"Will be the mightiest of battles! Lads and lasses, bastard scallywags, the Leviathan is upon us."

Now, his right arm pointed towards a direction where the sea met the sky. "Enter, the Obnimi."

As though waiting for the call of its name, a 60-feet sea creature emerged from the depths of the sea, tearing through the waves and almost capsizing the ship. Like divine punishment, its presence was overbearing. The Obnimi was the largest of Leviathans and it could cause storms that lasted for years.

Many deemed it the god of the sea; and there were some parts of the world where it was worshiped by Islanders.

The captain's heart stirred at the sight of the creature that could swallow the Knuckleback whole in one single go. Its mouth seemed like a bottomless chasm and it struck nothing but fear in the hearts of everyone present.

The captain was the same, but he couldn't show cowardice in the presence of his crew. Rather, it was his confidence that prevented everyone from going insane. He half-turned and gave a few commands,

"Man the cannons! Air elementals, hoist the fighters! We're taking on the beast of beasts."

Upon speaking, his body underwent a significant change. His height increased significantly, giving him a size that rivaled that of the giants. His leather clothing tore apart, and his naked form bore witness to the moonlight.

Rapidly, yellowish scales appeared on his skin, making him bear striking resemblance to a reptilian creature. Second-mate Odirov appeared beside him and handed his dual-wield axes.

He bowed and said, "We shall follow you into battle, and may the heavens bear witness to our victory."

The captain nodded without a word. Immediately after, his leg muscles released an outburst of condensed power, propelling him high into the air. He cleaved forward with the axes, unconcerned that he was still quite a distance from the Obnimi.

Adhering to the line of his cleave, razor-like flames shot forward and collided with the gargantuan creature. However, the Obnimi's hardened skin bore no indicator of damage whatsoever.

"Damn bastard," The captain grinned and met the Leviathan's fiery gaze as he plummeted.

On the ship, the Second-mate gave orders. The air elementals stood by the starboard and began tossing the combatants into the air. Their ability was especially useful against large creatures.

The captain found his footing on an air-wall and he burst forward immediately after.

The Obnimi let out a deafening 'Ohm' roar and thrashed its tail in the direction of the sailors, the captain held his breath and struck his fist against the incoming tail.

The resulting shockwave pushed back the ship and the air elementals lost balance. Not that it mattered, the shockwave had knocked most of the sailors out of the sky.

Regaining his balance, Iago wiped the water from his face and watched as Odirov condensed a flaming spear in his hand. The latter hurled the fiery weapon towards the sea creature, but it merely felt like a speck of dust compared to the size of the creature.

"None of our attacks are working! Its skin is too thick!"

Iago looked around with gritted teeth. "Where's the first-mate?!" There was no one to answer him as everyone was struggling to recover from the attack.

Boom!

Lightning descended and blasted a part of the deck to bits.

"Dastardly!" Iago cursed and kissed his teeth. He scampered out of the way and leapt into the sea, in search of the captain. The collision with the creature had knocked him out cold and the old man would drown in no time.

In a chamber on the ship,

A young lad slowly rose from the bed and blinked rapidly. His face contorted with disgust when a strong stench bombarbed his senses. He looked around in a daze and realised it was his own fart that woke him up.

As he sunk back once more, preparing to sleep, a deafening roar reverberated throughout the sea, jerking him awake completely.

"Aye, what's all the darn noise about?!"

He rose from the bed and quickly wore loose pantaloons. With inaudible mumbles, he stormed out of his chambers, planning to reprimand the sailors that were having too much of a blast and disturbing his sleep.

However, the sight that greeted him when he got to the upper deck was utter chaos.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Cannons fired in succession and blasted a gargantuan creature that loomed over the ship.

"Eh?" First-mate Odin was bamboozled. "This was going on and I was asleep?"

"Odin!" The boatswain cried out in glee. "You're finally here, you sleep too deeply, dammit!"

Odin waved his hand, implying they would talk about that later. His brows creased and he had his attention dead-locked on the Obnimi.

As if sensing his gaze, the Leviathan tilted its head and gazed at the human on the deck of the ship.

It was a stand-off.

"Ohmm!" The Obnimi roared and descended, planning to tear the ship to bits.

Odin took a step back, altering his stance and fixing his feet to the hardwood floor. With a swipe of both his arms, the seawater rose and arched over the ship, heeding his command.

He wasn't done. Odin fisted his palms and made arm movements that seemed like he was having a bout with the air.

The seawater began to crackle and turn to ice. The icy 'mountain' further rose and collided with the Obnimi. It froze the sea creature in place and all the sailors on the deck trembled at the sight of the ridiculously wide mouth above them.

It was akin to a passageway to another world, and it was just right above them.

Luckily, the first-mate arrived just in time.

Odin laughed and stood upright. He said, "Yer kind stole the title of 'sea god' from me, hehe. I am the real sea god around these parts, and don't you forget it!"

"Whoo!" Hollers and cheers boomed from every angle, applauding the outstanding performance of the first-mate.

At that moment, the captain emerged from the water with an abnormal leap. He landed on the deck, holding Iago in his arms. The young lad had jumped in the water to search for him, but ended up almost drowning.

Odin walked over to the captain and said, "Deliver the finishing blow. I have to unfreeze the water for our ship to sail, so we need to kill that monster in one strike."

The captain nodded, dropping Iago. "I'll aim for the eyes, then pry its brains out from there."

Crack…

That subtle sound turned everyone's head at the same time. A hint of worry plastered Odin's face as he and everyone watched the Obnimi break free from the ice. He tsked and turned the falling blocks of ice back into water, lest it smashed the ship to bits.

"Bastard won't di–" Second-mate Odirov's words choked in his lungs when he suddenly saw a bright light undulating within the agape mouth of the Obnimi.

Crackle!

Blue sparks ignited and the bright light rapidly turned into a ball of lightning.

"Bloody hell! Reload the cannons! Do not let the bastard fire!"
