Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Escape 5
Thud.
As the third Red Ribbon soldier cautiously approached, gun raised, to investigate, the boy's hand, extending from beneath two overlapping bodies, tightened around a ball. Suddenly, a sharp blade extended from it, and with a subtle twist of his wrist, the alien blade sliced through the soldier's legs, severing them diagonally at the knees. The soldier didn't even realize his legs had been cut off. As he lifted one foot, he stepped into empty air, falling with a sharp pain shooting up from his knees. Instinctively, he tried to move the other leg, only to experience the same fall and intense pain.
"Ah..." The soldier was about to scream when a cold sword thrust into his open mouth, silencing him instantly.
In his final moments, the soldier saw at the other end of the blade the boy holding up the two bodies. Through the dark green lenses of the night vision goggles, the boy's expressionless face resembled a soul-hunting specter. What was even more terrifying were his dark yellow eyes, which gave off a chilling, horror-film-like aura.
Yamiru lowered his gaze slightly and flipped the knife in his hand. He pulled it diagonally upward to the right, and the blade emerged about four to five centimeters above the soldier's left ear.
There was no time to reflect on his coldness or even smile at his transformation. After killing three Red Ribbon patrol soldiers, Yamiru pushed the bodies aside and stood up from the blood-soaked ground. He didn't turn on the lights but activated his Golden Veil, allowing him to see perfectly in the dim lab. As he walked, he glanced at his newly grown feet and one hand, then turned back. His Golden Veil saw the three corpses, their white shadows rapidly disappearing, soon vanishing completely.
"So, I can only see the aura of living beings… which means I can't see the energy gathered by things like the Spirit Bomb..." Yamiru thought.
He returned to the long experimental table where he had retrieved his sword and the Senzu bean and checked again. Still, he couldn't find any of his other gear—capsules, food, or anything else. Perhaps Gero and the others had placed the sword and Senzu bean here because they seemed to have some value. As for the sword, there was no doubt—it was made from a material far ahead of Earth's scientific knowledge, a fact acknowledged by Dr. Brief. Perhaps the body structure of subject 16 was the result of this sword? Yamiru suddenly entertained this absurd thought.
As for the Senzu beans, they had probably figured out that these things could fill their stomachs.
Yamiru tore a piece of curtain, ripped off a small portion, and forcefully wiped the blood from his body and feet. He then wrapped the remaining curtain around his waist and tied it tightly.
Without shoes, Yamiru carefully avoided the bloodstains on the floor and walked to the door of the lab, gently pushing it open.
The corridor was unlit, and Yamiru used his Golden Veil to scan the area. There was no one in the hallway, and moreover, within a 20-meter radius, he couldn't sense any life energy. After these past few days, Yamiru had used the sharp observation skills of his Golden Veil, along with their ability to see through obstacles and focus on the ki within a human body, to almost construct a mental map of the facility. Although it wasn't perfect, it was enough for him to find his way out of the base.
Thus, a small shadow silently darted through the night, weaving through the base.
Thanks to the enhanced abilities of his Golden Veil after his transformation, Yamiru could easily avoid all the guards. As he moved stealthily, he was suddenly reminded of playing games like Assassin's Creed or Watch Dogs in his previous life. Damn it! Yamiru shook his head fiercely. These were just distractions! Was it the excitement of escaping that was causing his mind to wander? Yamiru took a deep breath. He couldn't afford to make a mistake. If he was caught and dragged back, there would be no more Senzu beans to help him escape like this again.
He approached the entrance of the base.
It seemed to be the entrance of a cave, with a wide tunnel leading inward, forming a long corridor.
The main door at the entrance was tightly shut.
Three Red Ribbon soldiers, each holding a gun, patrolled back and forth.
Clink, clink...
A strange noise echoed from deep within, unusually loud and jarring in the silence of the night.
"What was that?" one of the patrol soldiers asked, raising his gun. The light on his gun swept over the empty corridor, revealing nothing unusual. He frowned and said to his comrades, "I'll go check that out."
He walked toward the source of the noise, scanning with the light on his gun. On the ground, he found a small stone.
The soldier looked up. "Could it have fallen from the ceiling?" As he turned to head back, he suddenly froze! Just as the light from his gun swept across the corner, something appeared to be pressed tightly against the wall in the corner! "What was that shadow? It looked like... a person?" The soldier was frozen in thought for a moment, but before he could react, a long sword shot upward from below, piercing through his jaw and the top of his head.
Yamiru skillfully moved behind the soldier, smoothly retracting his sword. He held the soldier steady with one hand, and with the other, he grabbed the rifle's stock, positioning the light to shine directly on the entrance, blinding the two soldiers opposite and preventing them from seeing what was happening. He continued to swing the light back and forth. No matter how the two soldiers shouted, "What's going on?" and "What happened?", he didn't respond, just kept swinging the rifle and light, acting as if he were in a hurry.
Supporting the soldier's body behind him, Yamiru closed his eyes and listened intently as the two patrol soldiers drew nearer.
"Talk!"
"What's going on?"
"You bastard, move the light, you're blinding me!"
"Too bright!"
The two soldiers cursed as they approached, cautiously raising their rifles toward Yamiru.
"Can't you understand? Move the gun, damn it, it's making my eyes water…" One of the soldiers reached out to push the dead soldier's gun aside. When the light moved away, both soldiers were immediately confronted with the sight of bloodstained necks and the lifeless faces of the soldiers. A chill ran down their spines, and they nearly jumped in fear.
The body slumped, and the light from the rifle danced on the wall. In the brief flash of white light, a shadow darted forward, and two golden eyes gleamed within the darkness.
A blade slashed through the air.
The soldier in front tried to scream, but all he heard was the rush of wind across his neck. Confused, he wondered—"there was no wind, and the door hadn't opened. Where was the wind coming from?" As his vision blurred and his body swayed, he slowly realized—"oh, it wasn't wind". It was the sound of blood spraying from his severed neck. His head flew off, and Yamiru raised his knife, holding it against the last soldier's throat.
"Don't move. Don't speak," Yamiru said calmly. "Otherwise, it will be bad for everyone. Especially for you. Do you understand?"
