Chapter 146: Misunderstanding
"Finished it, Alan!" Bob shouted.
I was dashing across rooftops while riding Plump, chasing the last monster. I raised my Indra and pointed to the target.
"Iron Bullet Spike!"
I cast the spell at the creature, a large, lizard-like monster with black skin and multiple tails. The most I've seen so far is five.
Since we moved from the port into the citizen district, we've encountered so many monsters. At least double or triple the number compared to Lily Town.
Linus said it's possible that more than two Kaoslith are involved in this disaster, judging by the monster density.
Luckily, Bob and I have grown stronger than before. So, we haven't had too much trouble dealing with them.
Plump and I jumped down to the ground, regrouping with Bob and Linus.
"Tchh! What a waste these monsters don't drop EXP or loot. If they did, we'd be rolling in it by now," Bob grumbled. We've killed more than 200 monsters already, some even powerful ones like that skeleton I vaporized with Starfire Lance.
"We can't do anything about that. At least we're reducing the monster population here," I said. Eventhough deep in my heart, I also felt regret not able to obtained more EXP and BP.
"Do you hear that?" Linus suddenly raised his hand, motioning for us to be quiet.
"Hear what?" Bob asked.
"Someone's shouting for help," Linus replied.
"Help..."
Bob and I heard it too. A faint cry from a distance.
"Let's go!" I charged forward immediately.
Bob, still in his Redwing Disciple class, jumped into the air and glided after me. Linus followed close behind.
As I turned the corner, I immediately saw a woman clutching a baby, being chased by a massive elephant-like monster with long, menacing tusks aimed to impale her.
"Help!" the woman screamed when she saw me.
She stumbled to the ground, quickly turning her body to shield her baby. The elephant kept charging.
"Searing Dash!"
Plump bolted forward at high speed. As we closed in on the monster, I stood on Plump's back and leapt into the air, aiming straight for the elephant's head.
Plump's right leg ignited in flames, while I raised my [Spiked Club] high into the air.
Boom!
At the same time Plump's Flare Kick slammed into the elephant's side, I brought the club crashing down onto its head. The beast's eyes went wide before rolling back unconscious, collapsing with a heavy thud.
I landed cleanly back on Plump's back, who was ready to catch me, before dismounting and running to the woman.
Bob dove toward the now motionless elephant to confirm it was dead, while Linus arrived beside me to check on the woman.
"Are you hurt, madam?" Linus asked as he helped her up.
"No… no. Thank you for saving me!" the woman cried, hugging her baby tightly. "Only God can repay your kindness. I truly thank you." She then bowed deeply.
"It's okay, madam. We're just grateful you're safe," I said.
"Where are you going in the street? It's really dangerous. This place is swarmed with monsters," Linus said.
"I was on my way to... "
But before she could finish, a voice suddenly rang out from nowhere.
"Let her go, scoundrel!"
I was looking around, trying to find where the voice came from, when Bob shouted..
"Above you!!"
"Huh?"
Me and Linus looked up. Suddenly, a figure came crashing down, diving straight toward me.
Linus quickly pushed me aside, and I stumbled to the ground.
Boom!
A huge impact shook the area, followed by a powerful shockwave.
I looked up to see Linus gritting his teeth, his staff raised high as he blocked a descending spear. The figure had stopped midair, clashing directly with Linus. Shockwaves pulsed from their clash, dust blasting in all directions. I had to shield my face with both hands until Plump stepped in front of me, protecting me.
The standoff lasted for several seconds before the figure jumped back, landing near the woman.
I got up and moved beside Linus. Bob joined as well. We were already in a battle stance.
"Who the hell are you?" Bob asked.
"I should be the one asking that. I heard a woman screaming for help, and when I arrived, I saw you trying to do something to her," the man said coldly. He had long blond hair and pointed his spear directly at us.
Wait a minute… I recognize him.
That's Prince Reymond, the same man I saw during the Rose City march, alongside Princess Reika.
"No, you're wrong! They're the ones who just saved me from a monster!"
The woman suddenly stepped in front of him, shielding us from his spear.
Reymond's eyes widened as he looked at us, then shifted to the massive monster lying lifeless behind us. He noticed the Dawnbloom badge on our shirts.
He exhaled and relaxed his stance, lowering his spear to the side.
"It seems there was a misunderstanding on my part. Please accept my apology."
Reymond gave a slight bow.
"Who the hell is him? Suddenly attacking us out of nowhere..."
Bob leaned in toward Linus, whispering.
"He's Prince Reymond. Princess Reika's brother," I whispered, covering my mouth with my hand.
"Ohhh..."
Bob and Linus responded in unison.
"Prince, are you alright?"
Suddenly, we heard footsteps marching from behind us. A group of soldiers approached in formation, all clad in full silver mail, except for one, who wore black armor. They looked at us with clear caution.
"I'm fine, Sir Dave. Don't worry. These gentlemen are members of the Dawnbloom Guild," Reymond said, his voice calm.
Sir Dave stepped forward.
"Dawnbloom Guild? What are you doing here? I thought your group was ordered to move to the southern sector?"
I exchanged looks with Linus and Bob. It seemed William and the others must've headed south without us.
"Actually, we arrived in town later than them. We made it here thanks to Princess Reika," I explained.
"Princess Reika? Where is she now?!"
Reymond suddenly stepped in close, his eyes sharp and demanding.
