Chapter 132: Unexpected Help
We then rode on the supply carriage at the rearmost part of the convoy. Inside, there were many packs that looked like flour, neatly arranged in stacks. There were also meats, fruits, and even vegetables.
We rearranged the stacks of flour to make space for us to sit.
"Let's move!" the voice of a man giving orders rang out, and the carriage started moving.
It was quite a bumpy ride. Every time we hit a rough patch, my head would bump against the side of the carriage. Still, it was much better than walking.
After a few minutes, I heard soft snoozing and saw Linus already asleep, his eyes covered by his robe.
"How can he sleep so easily in a carriage that moves like this?" Bob also noticed him, sounding a little jealous that Linus had managed to fall asleep.
With nothing to do, unable to sleep, and the ride still a long way from over, I opened the system. Immediately, I noticed a red exclamation mark at the bond section. I clicked on it right away and saw that Linus's bond status had changed to "Acquaintance." I was sure it had said "Stranger" before.
So this system can detect the relationship between us and other party members. I don't know how it measures something so abstract, but the good thing is, it means Linus is now becoming more open with us. That's a nice thing, having someone new to watch your back.
I then checked the shop section. There was a level-up reward. So we had leveled up just now, during the fight against those three robed guys. I hadn't noticed at the time.
"We're level 6 now, Bob," I said, turning to him. But there was no response.
I looked at him, and saw that he was already sleeping, mouth open.
I felt a little jealous of them both. I was tired, but I just couldn't get my eyes to close. So, I immediately opened the level-up pack.

[Darksteel Arcgun]
Rarity: Rare
Type: Artillery
– High-caliber auto-cannon made for siege defense
Only one can be activated at a time.
---
…
I was at a loss for words. Now the system gave us something that felt less fantasy and more like a modern-looking sentry gun.
I really want to meet who designed all these cards.
But nevertheless, this Arcgun looks sick. It's perfect for defense, and even though only one can be activated at a time, it can be used without limit.
Another addition to our arsenal. What a nice pull.
In the shop section, there was also a list of packs with discounted prices, almost as high as 75% off. It was so tempting to pull one. If Bob saw this, he would surely grab it without thinking.
I then started feeling sleepy, and after watching my watch currently at 5 a.m., I finally closed my eyes.

Cain was running through the narrow alley between the buildings. His eyes kept looking forward and upward, watching out for any monsters that might notice them. He reached the end of the alley and emerged onto the main street. He looked left and right, scanning for any movement. The heavy rain shortened his vision.
After making sure there were no enemies, he turned around. A woman and three kids were following him.
"Keep quiet. We're nearly there." He put his index finger to his lips.
Lin nodded. Cain looked at the street once more, then slowly began to walk, before picking up his pace into a run across the road. As they were moving, suddenly, Michael slipped and fell backward. He started crying.
"Shhh! Don't cry, Michael!" Lin said as she rushed back to help him stand. As she was trying to lift him up, a figure suddenly appeared behind her. It was huge, nearly 5 metres, but because of the mist, its presence was hidden behind it.
Cain noticed it.
When did that monster appear?
"You! Get down!" he shouted at Lin.
"Huh?"
But it was too late. The figure smashed its massive hand down onto Lin, instantly crushing her and cracking the ground beneath.
Michael's eyes went wide. His mouth hung open in shock.
"Lin!" he cried out, then fainted on the spot.
From the hand of the big monster, blood began to flow and leak, mixed with flesh and shattered bone. Lin was clearly crushed to bits by the impact.
The other two young kids began crying as well.
"Tsk, damn it!" Cain immediately ran toward Michael and lifted him onto his back. Then he shouted to the other two, "If you want to live, then run and follow me!"
He began running, not daring to look back. Michael was still unconscious. The other two kids followed close behind, still sobbing as they ran.
As they turned a corner, they suddenly saw another monster at the end of the road, similar as the one who chasing him. Cain tried to turn back, but the monster from earlier was already blocking the way.
Sweat began to drip down Cain's forehead. It seemed they were trapped. If he were alone, he could have escaped without a problem. But now… he couldn't just leave the kids behind. He clenched his teeth.
The monsters began walking toward them, each step heavy and loud. Cain pulled the kids towards him and hug them tightly, preventing them to see what were coming to them.
Step by step, the monsters drew closer. Cain closed his eyes.
Is this the end of my life, killed by monsters? he thought.
His memories began flashing through his mind, all the good things he had experienced in his life. His wife. His children.
"What a horribly ugly monster."
Thump!
"Can you stop mumbling, sis?"
Swoosh!
Thud!
Just as Cain braced himself for death, he suddenly heard the heavy crash of something enormous falling to the ground. He opened his eyes, and saw the two big monsters lying lifeless, collapsed.
Then he noticed two figures standing beside the fallen beasts.
One of them was a bald man, wearing a bandana and wielding a massive mace. The other one… it was hard to describe. But essentially, he was a muscular man with a long ponytail.
Quail and P-Cock of Black Eagle had arrived.
