Douluo: Infinite Lottery System

Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Not everyone's good at everything

Xiao Tianyang sat on his bed on the second floor, staring at his system page. His eyes scanned through the details:

Host: Xiao Tianyang

Strength Level: Level 13 [Spirit Master]

Soul Skill: Myriad Transformations Fire

Martial Spirit: Scythe of Judgment [symbol of life, the destination of the dead], Red Lotus Karmic Flame [burning cause and effect, washing away sins], Flame of Creation [flame of life, the spirit of all things], Three Thousand Flames.

Draw Value: 93

He paused, feeling the weight of these attributes, but then his gaze shifted to the task page. His eyes widened as new quests appeared. This was unusual—a mainline task triggered without any specific mention from others. He read aloud to himself:

Main Task: [Shrek Academy]

Content: Join Shrek Academy!

Reward: Random Character Bond Card!

Side Task 1: [Challenge]

Content: Defeat hundreds of soul beasts over a thousand years old in the Soul Hunting Forest!

Reward: Specialty skill [Grandmaster of Firearms]!

Side Task 2: [There is no love for no reason]

Content: Learn the true origin of Miao Zhenshan!

Reward: Body Martial Spirit x1!

Xiao Tianyang felt a sense of excitement stirring within him. The system had never granted him so many quests at once.

The main mission was no surprise—it was Shrek Academy after all. Xiao Tianyang had expected this and had planned on visiting anyway. After all, it was an attractive place to check out. But the reward—Random Character Bond Card—piqued his curiosity. This was new, something he'd never encountered before.

But before his excitement could grow further, he turned his attention to the second task. The challenge seemed difficult, but it aligned with his goals, so he mentally filed it away for later. It was the third task that truly left him puzzled.

Xiao Tianyang frowned. "Teacher Miao cares about me, but... love? That's going a bit far." He hesitated, unsure how to approach this, but he knew the system wouldn't make a mistake. If the task was there, it had a purpose, and the reward—a Body Martial Spirit—was enticing.

He knew a little about body martial spirits. Essentially, they were parts of the body that transformed into martial spirits. How strong they were depended largely on the user and their development of them.

Xiao Tianyang shifted his focus back to the task. "Teacher Miao must have a more complex identity than he lets on, or the system wouldn't be prompting me to investigate him." He considered the risks. If he started probing into Miao Zhenshan's past, he could easily attract attention, but there was also a chance she might reveal the truth himself.

No matter how uncertain he felt, Xiao Tianyang knew one thing: the task needed to be completed, and the reward must be claimed. The question was—how to go about it?

After several moments of pondering, Xiao Tianyang pushed the thought to the back of his mind. With no clear solution in sight, he decided to focus on his training.

He climbed to the third floor and began his practice. First, he worked on Graceful Steps upon the Waves, a technique he had just started. Thanks to the system's assistance, Xiao Tianyang didn't have to focus on opening meridians or performing specific steps.

All he needed to do was let the technique blend naturally into his fighting rhythm. The flow of energy in his body felt seamless, and he could feel the technique becoming part of him.

As the hours passed, Xiao Tianyang felt an unusual surge of energy. He wasn't tired—in fact, he felt stronger, and his internal energy flowed more smoothly than before. Unconsciously, he began integrating the Nine Suns Divine Art alongside Graceful Steps upon the Waves, combining the two techniques in a harmonious dance.

Then, out of nowhere, a new idea struck him. As his body remained in motion, Xiao Tianyang focused the energy in his palms. The soul power swirled around them, taking the form of a dragon that Soars in the Sky.

With a swift motion, he pressed his palms together and thrust them forward. The two dragons twisted mid-air, reversing direction, their claws flashing as they shot out with ferocity.

Xiao Tianyang's journey as a soul master had begun to show its benefits, especially in his mastery of techniques like the Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms.

Despite his earlier challenges with the technique, where his breakthroughs were constantly blocked by invisible barriers, his progress had been remarkable. The power of the technique, which required immense soul power, had gradually become more fluid, though not without limits.

As of now, Xiao Tianyang could only unleash ten consecutive palms without losing control, and even then, the power of each strike diminished as he continued. Pushing himself beyond this would result in dangerous overdraws of soul power, risking collapse and exhaustion.

The balance was delicate; though the Flame of Life and Three Thousand Flame provided him with enhanced vitality, it couldn't shield his mind from the strain of constant mental and physical fatigue. Xiao Tianyang knew he couldn't maintain this kind of practice for long periods without causing lasting damage, even if his body seemed to be immune to immediate injury.

After an intense training session that lasted until midnight, Xiao Tianyang finally called it a day. He was physically drained, but something in him still burned with determination. As he walked down the stairs, filled with exhaustion, a reminder of the price of such intense focus.

Xiao Tianyang's face was pale, and he struggled to stay steady, gripping

the wall for support. He sighed, knowing he had to moderate his approach going forward. "This type of practice is effective, but it takes a heavy toll. Over time, it could lead to both physical and mental exhaustion. I can't afford to push like this too often."

He quickly reassured himself. With the help of his martial flame, his body would heal rapidly from any physical damage. But the mental strain was a different matter, and even though his body could recover, his mind wasn't immune to the fatigue that came with it. Xiao Tianyang decided he would take the night to rest and recover.

"I'll visit Teacher Miao tomorrow and see if I can find any useful clues," he thought as he prepared to wind down. After a quick shower and change of clothes, Xiao Tianyang climbed to the terrace for some meditation.

It wasn't just for relaxation; he also planned to prepare for the next round of training by storing energy in the Zhangtian Bottle, a unique method he had developed.

"Let's try three drops first," he murmured, taking the bottle from his waist. He poured the green liquid into his mouth, feeling its potent soul power immediately start to take effect.

Now that he had his first soul ring and was no longer restricted by its effects, Xiao Tianyang could freely use the liquid to accelerate his strength. It had become a crucial part of his training, and he wasn't about to waste the opportunity.

As he meditated, Xiao Tianyang could feel the quality of his soul power improving even further. This was evident in how the 7,000-year-old soul ring had only increased his level by three, which could be explained by the improvement in the quality of his soul power.

The night passed in silent meditation, and by morning, Xiao Tianyang felt the fresh energy of the sun. After a brief shower and getting dressed, he went downstairs and was met with an empty kitchen—someone had eaten everything from the night before.

He chuckled lightly, realizing he'd have to eat at the college cafeteria today. As he searched around the house for anything else of interest, he found nothing out of the ordinary.

"Looks like I'll have to go to school. Maybe I'll find something there," he muttered before heading out. However, as he walked around the corner, a figure emerged from an alley nearby. The person peered after Xiao Tianyang, intrigued by his unusual behavior.

"This kid is really strange," the figure whispered to himself. "He has a dormitory, but he refuses to stay there. Instead, he rents a house and... even has a dog?"

If Xiao Tianyang had been there, he would have recognized the figure as

Miao Zhenshan, his target of investigation. Little did he know, while he was probing into him, he was quietly investigating him in return.

After all, his behavior had defied conventional understanding. If it weren't for Miao Zhenshan's knowledge of Xiao Tianyang's true nature, others might have seized him, studying him as a unique subject—a new kind of Soul master.

But for now, the game of cat and mouse continued, with each side trying to uncover the other's secrets.
