Chapter 56: Request
While traveling with Wu Lan's group, Qian Renxue gradually began to understand the value of friendship.
In Spirit Hall, due to her identity, she was treated with fear, respect and admiration. And in the capital, she had even taken on the role of a prince, which left no room for real emotional connections. She had to scheme constantly, either manipulating people into befriending her or silencing them when they got in her way.
Living such a life of constant deception had made her tired. Over time, she became accustomed to it. But now, after spending time with Wu Lan and the others, she realized how truly lonely those days had been.
What was supposed to be just a few days of relaxation had quietly turned into weeks… and eventually, a full month.
And now, after all this time, she didn't want to leave.
But she knew she should. Her grandfather and others in Spirit Hall would be worried. They would start searching for her.
She sighed.
At that moment, the group had just left a village and were heading toward the next one. Wu Lan had, as usual, healed anyone in poor health before they departed.
Wu Lan, walking ahead of the group, glanced back at Qian Renxue. Seeing her distressed expression, he easily guessed what she was thinking.
She wanted to leave and return to her duties. But she didn't want to part ways either, because she was enjoying her time with them too much.
Wu Lan didn't want Qian Renxue's twenty years of effort to go to waste just because of him.
He stopped walking, turned around, and asked gently,
"Renxue, why are you distressed?"
Qian Renxue was startled by the sound of her name and snapped out of her daze.
She realized there was no point in hiding it from him. He had already seen through her. Which meant... she needed to make a decision.
As she looked at Wu Lan, an idea suddenly came to her. Since she was reluctant to part ways with him, why not bring him along to the capital? That way, he could stay by her side.
But she also knew Xiao Wu and Zhuqing's personalities. They would never allow her to take Wu Lan away with her.
Still, a plan began to take shape in her mind.
"Wu Lan, let's have a battle," she said firmly.
She knew Wu Lan was strong, strong enough to knock out a Soul Saint with a sneak attack. But no matter how powerful he was, there was no way he could defeat a Soul Saint in a fair, prepared fight.
"Battle? Why?" Wu Lan asked, genuinely puzzled. "Where did that come from?"
Seeing his confused expression, Qian Renxue clarified,
"The loser has to fulfill one Request of the winner."
Hearing that, Wu Lan immediately understood.
She wants something from me…
Is it like how she tried to win over Tang San in the anime?
He became curious about her intentions.
"Oh? What do you want from me, if you win?"
Qian Renxue felt too embarrassed to admit that she wanted him to come to the capital with her so she wouldn't feel lonely. But she quickly came up with a more acceptable excuse. Though it might damage her friendship with Xiao Wu and Zhuqing, she grit her teeth and said,
"If you lose, you'll become my subordinate and follow me."
Wu Lan wasn't surprised. He expected as much. In the anime, she had tried to recruit Tang San the same way.
She must've seen my talent and wants to win me over now.
Before he could respond, Xiao Wu already exploded with anger. But she didn't attack immediately. She had spent a month with Qian Renxue and considered her a friend, otherwise, she might've already fought her to the death.
"You vixen! Are you trying to steal my brother from me!?" she shouted.
Zhuqing was also furious and moved closer to Wu Lan protectively.
Qian Renxue had anticipated their anger. She knew both girls loved Wu Lan deeply. She felt guilty and avoided looking into their eyes, instead turning her gaze to Wu Lan, waiting for his response.
Wu Lan came out of his thoughts at the sound of Xiao Wu's shout. Seeing both Xiao Wu and Zhuqing ready to explode, he gently patted their heads and said,
"Rabbit, Zhuqing, calm down."
Once they had settled down, he turned to Qian Renxue.
"Oh? What if I win?" Wu Lan asked, raising an eyebrow.
"If you win… I'll do whatever you want," Qian Renxue replied, confident as ever. She was certain that losing was impossible.
Wu Lan could tell how overconfident she was. She hadn't even considered the possibility of defeat.
Amused, he grinned and said,
"Oh? Then if I win, you'll become my maid."
Qian Renxue wasn't angry, but she was incredibly embarrassed. She instantly imagined herself in a maid outfit, calling Wu Lan "Master." Her face turned scarlet.
Seeing his teasing expression, she quickly covered her embarrassment and replied,
"If you win, I'll agree."
"Good," Wu Lan said, clearly delighted.
A beautiful blonde maid… for free. Not bad.
As for losing? That was never even a consideration.
Just yesterday, the Silver Dragon King and the Vitality Dragon had helped evolve his Golden Dragon Bloodline into the Golden Dragon King Bloodline.
His physical strength had reached the point where he could withstand a few punches from a Title Douluo. With his bloodlines from the Silver Dragon King and Golden Dragon King continuously evolving toward the Dragon God Bloodline, he now had the power to defeat a Soul Saint using only his physical body.
Qian Renxue was destined to become his maid.
Xiao Wu didn't say anything after Wu Lan agreed. She wasn't worried, she knew her brother would never lose.
Zhuqing also trusted him completely.
Soon, Wu Lan and Qian Renxue stood facing each other, ten meters apart.
A gentle breeze rustled through the grass between them. The air buzzed with tension.
Xiao Wu, Zhuqing, Bi Ji, and Zi Ji stood to the side, arms crossed, eyes fixed on the two fighters.
Zhuqing simply watched with quiet confidence in Wu Lan.
Xiao Wu, however, shouted excitedly,
"Brother, beat her up!"
She was still fuming that her friend had dared to try and seduce her brother.
Wu Lan chuckled at her words and turned to Qian Renxue with a smile.
Qian Renxue's expression darkened at Xiao Wu's comment. She wanted to end this quickly.
"Let's begin."
