After flying for a while, Yuwen Tuo arrived directly above Gong Changlong.
His wings, sharp as blades, gathered the power of flames and slashed downward. The attack pattern was somewhat similar to Wang Dong's "Wing Guillotine."
Gong Changlong extended a single palm and blocked Yuwen Tuo's strike. However, he noticed that his palm had turned black—not from injury, but from being scorched by the flames. After all, no matter how powerful Yuwen Tuo was, a mere two-ringed Soul Master couldn't possibly harm a Title Douluo like him. Still, this meant that Yuwen Tuo's flames hadn’t extinguished immediately upon contact with his soul power but had burned for a brief moment.
For a Soul Master’s flames to endure even a second against a Title Douluo’s soul power was already an impressive feat.
Yuwen Tuo landed in front of Gong Changlong and asked, “Beast King Senior, what do you think of my soul skill?”
“What do I think? A single soul skill that combines flight, acceleration, and attack—all with considerable power—and you’re asking me how it is? Are you showing off on purpose?” Gong Changlong grumbled. He had to admit that none of his own soul skills, up until his fifth soul skill from a ten-thousand-year soul ring, could compare to Yuwen Tuo’s technique.
Yuwen Tuo chuckled, “Hehe, seems like Senior thinks it’s not bad. Thank you for giving me such a great soul ring. If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave.”
Gong Changlong waved dismissively, “Go on, go on. You’ve taken two of my good soul beasts already. When you become stronger, remember to catch me two more to make up for it.”
“I understand,” Yuwen Tuo replied. Even without Gong Changlong saying so, he would have returned the favor eventually.
Only by repaying what he owed could he rightfully pursue what he deserved.
Leaving the Dueling Arena, Yuwen Tuo headed to Hai Shen Lake as per his agreement with Xiao Xiao.
Xiao Xiao was already waiting there. Upon seeing Yuwen Tuo, she waved enthusiastically, “Tuo Tuo, I’m over here!”
By now, night had fallen, and the area around Hai Shen Lake was deserted. Her voice carried clearly through the stillness.
“Xiao Xiao, did Principal Yan Shaozhe make you any promises?” Yuwen Tuo asked as he approached her.
“Yes! Principal Yan said that if I stay at Shrek Academy and work hard, they will do their best to nurture me until I become a Title Douluo. They promised me at least three spirit bones and will try their best to give me a ten-thousand-year soul ring!” Xiao Xiao exclaimed excitedly. Such a generous offer was impossible not to be moved by.
Yuwen Tuo nodded. It was indeed a substantial promise.
In the original storyline, when /N_o_v_e_l_i_g_h_t/ Yan Shaozhe learned about Huo Yuhao’s Ice Emperor Scorpion martial soul, he made an even more lavish offer—guaranteeing not only a ten-thousand-year soul ring but also a full set of high-grade spirit bones.
That was understandable, though. Even among twin martial souls, Xiao Xiao’s two martial souls paled in comparison to the Extreme Ice of the Ice Emperor Scorpion.
Her value was naturally lower, but Yan Shaozhe’s recruitment strategy was still quite generous.
Moreover, Xiao Xiao wasn’t from a noble family nor affiliated with any faction. Now was the perfect time to tie this unaffiliated twin martial soul prodigy to Shrek Academy.
“Xiao Xiao, this treatment is undoubtedly generous. If you want to stay at Shrek in the future, train diligently here. But if someday I can offer you better opportunities, would you be willing to leave with me?” Yuwen Tuo asked. The path ahead would likely be fraught with challenges, and talented soul masters were always welcome allies.
Xiao Xiao tilted her head curiously. “Leave together? Tuo Tuo, today Principal Yan mentioned that the academy feels guilty toward you. What does that mean?”
“There’s nothing much to it. Since you asked, I won’t hide anything. I’ll tell you everything,” Yuwen Tuo said, pulling Xiao Xiao to sit by the lakeside. He began recounting his past—the abandonment by his parents in a remote village, being raised by villagers, the massacre of those villagers by evil soul masters when he was four, narrowly escaping death, living until six, awakening his martial soul with a先天满魂力 (innate full soul power) of twenty levels, only to be forcibly taken by Shrek Academy and used as a training tool for Ma Xiaotao for six years. During that time, no matter how many times he restored his soul power, it would quickly be drained again.
He left out almost nothing, except for one detail—he adjusted the part about having a master and mistress. After all, he had previously told Xiao Xiao that he had been taught by them.
But his greatest secret—his transmigration—was something he could never reveal to anyone, no matter how much he trusted them.
With nine truths and one lie, Xiao Xiao believed every word.
By the time she finished listening, tears streamed down her face. Finally, she collapsed onto Yuwen Tuo’s shoulder, sobbing, “Wu... Tuo Tuo, you’ve suffered so much. Why did the academy treat you like this when you were already so unfortunate?”
Abandoned by his parents, his village massacred, his two close friends killed, his master and mistress gone—Yuwen Tuo had already been left utterly alone. Yet the academy had spent six years draining his soul power.
If not for that, Yuwen Tuo would surely have become a world-renowned genius by now.
An innate full soul power of twenty levels—such a phenomenon in the history of Doulu Continent had only ever occurred with the Six-Winged Angel martial soul.
The academy had truly wronged Yuwen Tuo.
Yuwen Tuo gently stroked Xiao Xiao’s hair and smiled. “It’s alright, don’t cry. I’m fine now. Yes, I harbor resentment and anger, but rest assured—I’ve never thought of giving up on myself or letting hatred consume me. The future is long, and I’ll face it with hope. What I’ve lost, I’ll strive to reclaim.”
Xiao Xiao looked up at Yuwen Tuo’s face, illuminated by the moonlight.
His smile was as warm as sunlight.
From his appearance alone, no one would guess he carried such deep grievances.
A person who should have been bitter and vengeful instead radiated warmth and optimism. Xiao Xiao couldn’t help but think that being with someone like him must feel comforting, like basking in perpetual sunshine.
Wiping away her tears, Xiao Xiao leaned close to Yuwen Tuo’s ear and whispered softly, “Tuo Tuo, if one day you decide to leave here, I’ll definitely go with you. I’ll take good care of you!”
Xiao Xiao’s boldness momentarily stunned Yuwen Tuo. No wonder she was brave enough to confess her feelings during the Sea God’s Fate event—her intentions were clear and unmasked.
Having learned about Yuwen Tuo’s past, she now understood why he hadn’t feared expulsion by Teacher Zhou Yi earlier. In fact, being expelled might have suited him just fine.
Xiao Xiao knew that deep down, Yuwen Tuo wanted to leave. If that was the case, she wouldn’t force him to stay.
As for Yan Shaozhe’s request to win back Yuwen Tuo’s heart and ease his resentment toward Shrek Academy, she mentally dismissed it. She didn’t care about the promised spirit bones or ten-thousand-year soul rings anymore.
Yuwen Tuo had already suffered for six years at Shrek. How could she bear to keep him tethered here because of her?
She even began questioning the so-called “just and righteous” Shrek Academy. Sacrificing a child for the sake of nurturing another student—how was this different from the evil soul masters they condemned?
