After Fang Chang finished devouring those pink ladies, the area returned to a eerie calm. Aside from the empty husks of two giant scorpions, it was as if nothing had ever happened.
He licked his lips and turned toward the depths of the forest, deliberately heading for the colder half of the woods.
To enter the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well, he needed resistance to both ice and fire attributes. He'd already built up his fire resistance, but ice was still lacking—making it his top priority now.
After walking through the forest for about half an hour, a sudden chill ran through him. An odd sensation bubbled up from deep within, like something dangerous was watching him from afar.
He scanned the area carefully, but there wasn't even the weakest soul beast around—let alone a human.
Maybe it's just my imagination, he thought, shrugging it off as he pressed deeper into Sunset Forest. Still, he stayed on guard, keeping an eye on his surroundings.
Another half hour passed, and that same feeling hit him again. This time, Fang Chang was ready. His senses sharpened, and he zeroed in on the source—due north.
He activated his "Stealth" mode right away and cautiously crept in that direction.
Meanwhile, about two miles away in that same direction, a wolf-like soul beast paused. It stood over two meters tall and three meters long, with a single horn jutting from its head.
It glanced toward Fang Chang's position, perplexed, like a hunter who'd just lost track of its prey.
A moment later, it let out a long howl, its eyes shifting elsewhere. Its pupils dilated, locking onto something in the distance.

Ugh… Hidden in the shadows, Fang Chang sighed. I thought it was something serious staring me down, but this is it?
A 5500-year Fang Wolf daring to target a 15,000-year Shadow Evil Spider?
If I'd known it was just this, I'd have waited for it to come to me instead of bothering to track it down.
Fang Wolves were known as natural hunters among soul beasts, famed for their tracking skills. They could spot and lock onto prey from miles away.
But that ability didn't seem to come with a strength detector—this one had clearly bitten off more than it could chew.
Fang Chang stayed in "Stealth" and silently closed in on the Fang Wolf.
When he was less than two meters away, the wolf suddenly shuddered. It leaped back a couple steps, fur bristling, and barked twice toward Fang Chang's position.
Fang Chang froze, confused. He double-checked himself—his "Stealth" was still active. How'd this thing spot him?
The Fang Wolf, seeing its warning growl ignored, widened its eyes and glared at Fang Chang's spot.
Fang Chang decided to hold his ground, prepping for a fight. He faced the wolf head-on, locking eyes, refusing to back down—like a standoff.
Less than a minute passed before the Fang Wolf seemed to realize it was outmatched. It took a half-step back, then bolted through the forest in a full sprint.
Fang Chang wasn't about to let a meal slip away that easily. He followed at a leisurely pace, letting it run ahead.
Fang Wolves were fast by nature, but the gap between it and Fang Chang was just too wide—stats worlds apart. Even running for its life, Fang Chang could catch up without breaking a sweat.
Maybe it finally figured out it couldn't shake its pursuer. The Fang Wolf stopped, turned around, and tensed every muscle in its body.
As Fang Chang drew near, it lunged with a wolfish pounce—claws forward, jaws trailing behind.
Fang Chang wasn't fazed by the sudden counterattack. In an instant, he triggered his "Blade Armor" skill and stood still, letting the wolf come to him.
Bang! It sounded like a meatball slamming into an iron wall. The Fang Wolf's claws raked down Fang Chang's armor, leaving two thin white scratches. Its own paws ended up bloodied.
Unwilling to give up, it snapped its jaws at one of Fang Chang's spider legs, aiming for the soft base.
But no matter how hard it bit, its teeth couldn't sink in an inch. Instead, blood trickled from its mouth—a pitiful sight.
After about thirty seconds of this stalemate, the Fang Wolf gave up. When it looked at Fang Chang again, its eyes held a glimmer of despair. It never imagined it'd fall to its own prey.
Fang Chang was done playing around. He activated his "Elasticity" skill, and his body began to swell. In less than a minute, he'd ballooned to ten times his original size.
Now, he stretched over fifty meters long and stood around thirty meters tall—rivaling even that Titan Giant Ape from before.
Under the Fang Wolf's terrified stare, Fang Chang leaned down. His massive, exaggerated maw snapped shut with a thunderous crash.
To the Fang Wolf, it was like the sky itself darkened—as if someone had slapped a door on the heavens and slammed it shut.
Fang Chang straightened up, and the wolf vanished into his now ten-times-larger digestive tract, dissolving into pure soul power that merged into his body.
Burp~ He let out a satisfied belch and shrank back to his normal size.
Using "Elasticity" like this was pretty handy. It boosted his devouring efficiency by leaps and bounds—even big targets he couldn't swallow quickly before went down in one gulp now.
[Devoured Fang Wolf successfully. Gained bonus skill: "Hunting Instinct"]
Hunting Instinct: Allows you to briefly detect and gain vision of a specified target within a ten-kilometer radius.
Fang Chang gave "Hunting Instinct" a test run. A strange sensation guided him to picture his desired prey.
He immediately thought of a slime. His pupils dilated, and his vision seemed to spread out through the forest.
Then, like a god's-eye view, he spotted a slime hiding inside the trunk of a giant tree just a few hundred meters away.
Fang Chang ambled over, pried open the tree's bark with his spider legs, and sure enough, a 300-year-old slime was tucked inside the hollow.
[Devoured Slime successfully. "Regeneration Lv4" upgraded to "Regeneration Lv5"]
Say what you will, the soul beasts in Sunset Forest were a far cry from Star Dou Forest's heavyweights. He was already in the core area here, but most of what he ran into were still in the four-to-five-thousand-year range.
To really ramp up his strength fast, he'd need the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well. With that in mind, Fang Chang used "Hunting Instinct" again, searching for the only ice-type soul beast he could think of right now—Snow Rabbit.
