Chapter 211: 207. Urging
-
The loud and energetic laughter gradually quieted down.
Qian Daoliu shook off his melancholy and said with a smile:
"Xiao Jue, after leaving Spirit City so many times, have you found a girl that you fancy?"
"Uh…" Qian Renjue's smile stiffened, and he helplessly shook his head. "Grandpa, I haven't found anyone yet."
"Sigh~" Qian Daoliu let out a deep sigh. "Xiao Jue, you should really put more effort into this. You can't always rely on me to set you up."
"Grandpa, I am trying!" Qian Renjue quickly protested.
He had been in touch with Ye Lingling throughout the year, and he even went out to meet her six months ago.
"Besides, there's no need to force this kind of thing," Qian Renjue added, pouting. "It will happen when it happens."
"Let it happen?" Qian Daoliu raised an eyebrow and couldn't help but tease, "It's been over ten years, and you haven't brought a single girl back for us to meet."
"I… I'm still young!" Qian Renjue muttered.
Most of the time he went out, it was for business. After finishing, he'd head straight home, not paying much attention to his 'destiny.'
"You're not that young anymore," Qian Daoliu grunted. Floating nearby, Glowing Feather Douluo nodded in agreement.
"That's right, that's right. I have nothing to do these days, and I'd love to help take care of a child."
Qian Renjue glanced at Glowing Feathers Douluo, feeling a bit awkward. "Grandpas, children aren't toys," he said, covering his face with his hand.
The thought of them handling a baby made him even more hesitant about the idea.
"Haha, we wouldn't break them!" Golden Crocodile Douluo laughed heartily.
Qian Renjue scratched his head and decided that facing Glowing Feathers Douluo's eighth spirit skill would be better than this facing conversation.
He bowed and said, "If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave."
Qian Daoliu chuckled at Qian Renjue's evasive behavior but didn't stop him. He said, "Go on then. Be careful while you're out."
"I will, Grandpa," Qian Renjue promised.
Qian Daoliu nodded in satisfaction, then added, "What you've been working on has been very good—much better than Xunji's efforts."
"…"
Hearing the somber tone, Qian Renjue paused, his eyes reflecting a hint of sadness.
After a moment of silence, he forced a smile and said, "Don't worry, Grandpa. I will strive to do even better."
"Grandpa believes in you," Qian Daoliu said with a touch of emotion, waving his hand. "Go now. And tell Xiao Xue to come home more often."
"Yes, Grandpa. I'll take my leave." Qian Renjue bowed and also said his goodbyes to the other elders.
"Grandpas, I'll come see you again soon."
"Go on, go on. I look forward to the day you become the Pope," Glowing Feathers Douluo said, landing gracefully and tossing the two wristbands in his hand.
The elders watched as Qian Renjue left, smiling.
"Big Brother, it seems the Spirit Hall is truly flourishing," Golden Crocodile Douluo said with a sigh.
Qian Daoliu smiled and replied softly, "Indeed. They are the future of the Qian family and the Spirit Hall."
"…"
"Fourth Brother, come on, let's spar with the wristbands," Glowing Feathers Douluo's cheerful voice echoed.
…
As Qian Renjue stepped out of the elders' hall, he glanced up at the scorching sun in the sky. His gaze followed the sunlight down to the Douluo Hall, where their faith was concentrated.
"Grandfpa was right. So much time has passed," Qian Renjue murmured softly. He began walking towards the home where he and his sister had spent their childhood.
The layout remained unchanged, and even when Qian Renxue returned, the courtyard still belonged to them.
Several sticks of incense sent curls of white smoke spiraling into the air, gently moving throughout the room.
Jingle!
A bell hanging on the wall was lightly stirred by the smoke, letting out a faint ring. Qian Renjue remembered his promise—if anyone thought of him, they should ring the bell.
"Yes, I'm here," Qian Renjue muttered, sitting cross-legged on the floor with his chin in his hand.
…
By dusk, Qian Renjue made his way down the long steps and returned to the courtyard.
He had already inspected the gifts from the elders. There were four spirit bones, but only the left leg bone from the sixty-thousand-year-old Netherworld Ghost Tiger suited him.
Though valuable, Qian Renjue decided not to absorb it immediately. There was no rush for such matters.
The golden light of sunset spread across the horizon like a brilliant sword hanging in the sky.
"Nana, be careful," Qian Renjue called out as he entered the courtyard.
Hu Liena, who had already woken up and cleaned up, emerged from the kitchen carrying a bowl of steaming soup. Dressed neatly with her orange short hair framing her smiling face, she looked at ease.
"Brother, you're back!" Hu Liena's eyes lit up, and she stood still, a soft smile on her face.
"Yes, I'm back," Qian Renjue replied, nodding gently. He glanced toward the kitchen, slightly curious. "Nana, go put that down."
"Okay," Hu Liena responded with a smile.
Just as Qian Renjue was about to head into the kitchen, he turned and asked, "By the way, where's Ah Yin?"
"Ah Yin and the teacher are inside," Hu Liena said softly as she wiped down the table under the pavilion.
"Master!" Ah Yin's voice called out weakly, sounding almost like a cry for help.
"Ah, Holy Son's Mom, don't cut, don't cut! I'll do it myself—it doesn't hurt!" Ah Yin's voice protested.
Curious, Qian Renjue stepped into the kitchen, where the scent of food greeted him.
What he saw was Ah Yin tending to the fire, with Bibi Dong standing with her back to him. Oddly enough, one of Ah Yin's arms had transformed into her plant form, and she was cutting off tender shoots that fell onto the cutting board before retracting her arm.
Qian Renjue stared, confused. "What's going on? Mom, why are you back so early today?"
"Of course, I'm preparing a gift for Xiao Xue," Bibi Dong said gently, without turning around, as she crushed the Blue Silver Emperor leaves on the cutting board.
"And Ah Yin?" Qian Renjue looked sympathetically at Ah Yin, still puzzled.
"Mom thinks she smells nice, plump, and juicy, and she's not bitter at all," Bibi Dong laughed. "She's perfect for making spices."
"Spices?!" Qian Renjue blinked, feeling both amused and at a loss for words.
"Since you and your sister don't lack anything, and I don't have much of my own, I wanted to make something myself," Bibi Dong explained nonchalantly.
The tender shoots had fallen off voluntarily from Ah Yin after seeing Bibi Dong's spider scythes, and they didn't harm her.
Besides, Ah Yin had been drinking Qian Renjue's blood, so there was a balance.
"It doesn't matter if it's the best or not. As long as it's made by you, Sister will love it," Qian Renjue said, shaking his head as he approached Bibi Dong.
He waved Ah Yin over and extended his finger for her to absorb some energy.
As he got closer, Qian Renjue realized that Bibi Dong was mixing the sweet and fragrant plant juice with cream, spreading it onto a cake.
