Chapter 186: 182. Prince's Death
In the Blue Silver Forest,
Hu Liena touched the bite marks on her face, which Qian Renjue refused to heal for her,
And watching as Ah Yin turned completely blood-red and blurry.
Ling Yuan frowned, the scene before her unlike anything she had ever witnessed.
Ah Yin was nestled in Qian Renjue's arms, trying to steal a bite, but Qian Renjue held her face, rolled his eyes, and urged:
"Hurry inside, I don't have that much blood for you to suck."
"Yes, Master."
Ah Yin's eyes held a trace of resentment as she transformed into a scarlet thread and slipped into Qian Renjue's clothes.
"Hiss!"
Qian Renjue couldn't help but let out a muffled groan, clutching his chest, nearly losing his breath.
"Your Highness, how are you feeling?" Ling Yuan immediately rushed forward to support him.
"It's not a big deal, just feels like there's something wiggling in my body," Qian Renjue shook his head slightly.
Frowning, he loosened his robe and looked inside.
On the left side of his chest, over his heart, a vibrant Blue Silver Emperor mark had already been etched, like a tattoo.
Its edges were outlined in blood-red, the blue core and golden veins pulsing in sync with his heartbeat.
"Senior Brother, it's so pretty~" Hu Liena giggled.
Qian Renjue, still observing the Blue Silver Emperor rooted in his chest, raised his eyes to find both Ling Yuan and Hu Liena leaning in, staring at his body without averting their gazes, even as he looked up.
Hu Liena even reached out, trying to touch the gleaming Blue Silver Emperor.
"…"
Qian Renjue's face twitched. Quickly pulling his robe closed and stepping back, he scolded:
"Nana, Sister Ling, what are you doing?!"
"Huh?" Hu Liena snapped back to reality, retracting her hand and hiding it behind her back, mumbling, "I wasn't doing anything, just looking."
Ling Yuan blushed slightly, diverting her gaze and softly defending herself:
"Your Highness, I was just checking that plant, worried it might harm you."
Qian Renjue glared at Hu Liena and reassured Ling Yuan, "Rest assured, Sister Ling, she won't harm me."
"I understand," Ling Yuan sighed in relief, grateful that her usual behavior didn't arouse suspicion.
Meanwhile, Hu Liena held her burning face.
"Alright, let's leave the Star Dou Forest and head to Heaven Dou City for a rest." Qian Renjue tidied his clothes.
Since Ah Yin needed to stay in human form, he couldn't provide enough blood, so he had no choice but to let her possess him temporarily.
Swoosh!
A vine suddenly extended, helping Qian Renjue fasten his collar, causing him to stiffen slightly.
"Ah Yin, retract your vines. Be careful not to let anyone see." Qian Renjue rolled his eyes, warning her.
It would be odd if, in public, grass sprouted from his chest.
"Yes, Master," Ah Yin's voice echoed as she obediently withdrew her vine into Qian Renjue's chest.
Suppressing the itch, Qian Renjue turned to the giggling Ling Yuan and Hu Liena, instructing, "Let's go."
"Yes, Senior Brother (Your Highness)!" Both women responded in unison, following Qian Renjue out of the Blue Silver Forest after bidding farewell to the Blue Silver King.
"Senior Brother, where did the Blue Silver Forest go?" Hu Liena glanced back, the area behind her had turned into a large barren land again
"It's just not moving randomly again," Qian Renjue gently knocked on Hu Liena's head, explaining, "The light it reflects forms a mirage-like barrier."
"I see," Ling Yuan finally understood. Though she had known there was a barrier, she hadn't known how it worked.
...
Qian Renjue led the two women through the Star Dou Forest.
Their team was smaller now, missing the little pink rabbit.
With nothing to look for, they moved faster than when they had arrived.
As they passed through a rocky mountainous area, Qian Renjue's Eye of Insight flickered unpredictably, and his expression grew dazed.
In his mind, dream-like fragments began to flash.
The clash between Qian Xunji and the black fallen angel, a crying woman pierced through, a young man reduced to a broken stump, a collapsing world.
The images vanished in an instant.
Qian Renjue's steps slowed, and he furrowed his brow.
"Was that really me?" Qian Renjue wondered aloud.
Tap!
Ling Yuan slowed down, looking back at the slightly lagging Qian Renjue in confusion:
"Your Highness, what's wrong?"
"…" Qian Renjue stopped, awoken from his thoughts by Ling Yuan and Hu Liena's concerned voices.
"Senior Brother, Senior Brother?!" Hu Liena's voice broke through, and he shook his head lightly.
"I'm fine, just remembered something," Qian Renjue replied.
"Your Highness, should we rest for a bit?" Ling Yuan suggested.
Qian Renjue took a deep breath, smiled, and shook his head. "No need, let's keep moving. We'll rest when we're out of here."
"Alright." Ling Yuan agreed after a brief pause.
"Let's continue. Nana, if you get tired, let me know. We can stop to rest."
"I'm not tired, Senior Brother."
"…" Ling Yuan stayed close to Qian Renjue.
Perhaps what he thinking was far more complicated than he let on.
As Qian Renjue wove through the stone forest, his smile gradually faded, and doubt grew in his heart.
The images that had flashed through his mind had completely disappeared, making it impossible to retrieve them.
Even trying to recall them felt futile.
"Was that a memory from the Dream of Yellow Millet?" Qian Renjue murmured, glancing back at the rocky area behind him, unable to remember anything.
...
The day Qian Renjue left the Star Dou Forest, the Heaven Dou imperial family was shaken!
The second prince, who was more beloved by the people than the crown prince, had suddenly died in his residence.
Heaven Dou City was placed under lockdown, with strict inspections at all gates.
Even the other princes were placed under house arrest, awaiting the investigation's results.
...
Three days later.
At the grand gates of Heaven Dou City, the figures of Qian Renjue and his companions appeared on the horizon.
"Senior Brother, the gates are huge, and it's so lively inside," Hu Liena clung to Qian Renjue's arm, her eyes wide with surprise at the massive city walls, so much like those of Spirit City, but much larger.
As a newcomer, she was quite excited.
Spirit City, as a sanctuary for soul masters, lacked the lively human atmosphere of other places.
Meanwhile, Ling Yuan Douluo frowned.
"Your Highness, something seems off. There are more soldiers on the walls than last time."
"Indeed, more than before." Qian Renjue nodded slightly, his Eye of Insight flashing, but he found no useful information.
"Where are the people my sister arranged?" Before Qian Renjue could finish speaking, a carriage slowly appeared from a side gate.
"Your Highness, it seems to be Dugu Xin," Ling Yuan reminded him.
"It's him," Qian Renjue smiled, nodding. The man with the green spiked hair was hard to miss.
