Chapter 55: Chapter 55
Chapter 55: Set Off to the Star Forest
On the eighth day, when everyone gathered at the training grounds of Shrek Academy, Oscar happily announced that his spirit power had broken through level 30. In response, Flander announced that Zhao Wuji would accompany them and that they would set off early the next morning for the Star Dou Forest to help Oscar obtain the spirit ring he needed.
Xiao Wu was especially excited when she heard the news. Her spirit power was showing signs of breaking through level 40, and she had been worried about finding an excuse to leave the academy to obtain a spirit ring.
The Star Dou Forest was one of the three most famous gathering places for spirit beasts on the Douluo Continent. Its vastness was nearly equal to the entire land area of the Balak Kingdom. The forest stretched across the borders of both the Heaven Dou Empire and the Star Luo Empire, with two-fifths of it belonging to Heaven Dou and three-fifths under Star Luo's jurisdiction.
The forest itself was an ancient, primeval expanse deep within Star Luo Empire territory. The terrain was unpredictable, with wetlands, swamps, and dense vegetation, making it a haven for all sorts of terrifying spirit beasts. The deeper one ventured into the forest, the stronger the creatures became. It was said that at its core, spirit beasts with a lifespan of 100,000 years resided.
Located southeast of the Balak Kingdom, the forest shared a small border with it and wasn't far from Shrek Academy—only about 500 kilometers away. Thanks to Oscar's sausages providing support, it only took the group one day to reach the nearest town to the Star Dou Forest.
As the saying goes, live by the mountain, eat by the mountain; live by the water, eat by the water.
This particular town thrived due to its proximity to the forest. Spirit masters frequently passed through, stimulating the economy. Despite its classification as a town, it had developed into a small city, with a variety of stores lining its streets—shops selling weapons, poisons, and rare materials were everywhere.
After arriving, Zhao Wuji led Ye Feng and the others into an inn and immediately booked rooms for them to rest. After some discussion, they settled on five rooms:
Ye Feng and Oscar shared one.
Xiao Wu and Ning Rongrong paired up.
Zhu Zhuqing had her own room.
Tang San and Dai Mubai bunked together.
Ma Hongjun, on the other hand, was assigned a room alone.
Everyone was wary of his "evil fire" flaring up, especially after one particularly bad incident where even Oscar wasn't spared. Nobody wanted to risk it, so the decision was unanimous.
After traveling all day, everyone except Ye Feng collapsed onto the table, exhausted.
"Ye Feng, aren't you tired?" Tang San asked, his voice laced with disbelief.
"I'm fine," Ye Feng replied casually.
Despite Ye Feng being the recognized leader of the Shrek Eight Devils, Tang San never actually referred to him as such. It was a strange quirk of his self-esteem.
Before Ye Feng had joined the academy, Dai Mubai had been the de facto leader among the students. But after Ye Feng arrived, Dai Mubai acknowledged that Ye Feng was stronger than him. Even Ma Hongjun often jokingly referred to Ye Feng as "Boss Ye." Yet, Tang San remained different, never addressing him that way.
"Order the food already! I'm fucking sick of eating sausages all day. Boss Ye, hurry up and get something good!" Ma Hongjun groaned.
"Alright," Ye Feng chuckled.
He called a waiter over and, after asking Xiao Wu, Zhu Zhuqing, and Ning Rongrong what they wanted, placed an order for several of the restaurant's signature dishes.
"Please wait a moment," the waiter said respectfully before hurrying off.
As they waited, a group of eight people entered the inn. Their arrival immediately disrupted the atmosphere. Unlike regular guests, they moved arrogantly, shoving anyone who stood in their way. Even when they knocked someone to the ground, they didn't bother to look back.
One of the victims—a man who had been pushed over—opened his mouth to protest, but upon seeing what they were wearing, he gritted his teeth and swallowed his anger. He simply dusted himself off and walked away.
The leader of the group was a middle-aged man in his forties, with a smug, handsome face and hair slicked back with an excessive amount of grease. He wore an elegant moon-white spirit master's robe embroidered with silver thread, which shimmered as he moved.
Behind him followed seven students—six men and one woman—all wearing identical robes. On their left shoulders was a cyan emblem with the words "Canghui Academy" embroidered inside.
"Hey, that girl is pretty cute," Oscar muttered, his eyes lingering on the female student.
"Oscar, are you into her?" Dai Mubai asked.
"She's got a nice face, but her attitude looks like a damn handful. She seems like the kind who'd need some serious taming. Even if I married her, she'd probably be a nightmare to deal with," Oscar sighed.
Unfortunately, his words weren't as quiet as he thought.
The Canghui Academy girl's face immediately darkened, and the male students around her glared at Oscar. One of them even stood up aggressively, about to step forward, but their teacher stopped them with a whisper. The student nodded, forcing himself to sit back down.
At that moment, the waiter arrived carrying a large bowl of soup. The same Canghui student who had just been about to attack Oscar suddenly stood up and "accidentally" stuck out his foot, deliberately tripping the waiter.
"Aahhh!" the waiter screamed.
He staggered forward, about to fall, and the steaming bowl of soup was on a direct trajectory toward Ye Feng.
However, before it could spill, Ye Feng moved like a blur. In the blink of an eye, he had caught the bowl with one hand and grabbed the waiter with the other, preventing the accident entirely. Not a single drop of soup was spilled.
"You looking for trouble?" Ye Feng asked coldly, his gaze locking onto the Canghui student.
"So what if I am? What the fuck are you gonna do about it?" the student sneered, lifting his foot to kick Ye Feng.
Boom!
The moment his foot made contact with Ye Feng's, a loud impact rang through the inn.
"Ahhh!"
The Canghui student immediately clutched his leg, his face twisting in agony. He sucked in a sharp breath. "Shit... that fucking hurts!"
His kick had felt like slamming into a steel plate. He was the one who had attacked Ye Feng, yet he was the only one in pain.
His companions looked at Ye Feng in shock.
What the hell just happened?
Before they could react, Ye Feng moved.
Bang!
His palm struck the student's chest with a dull impact. A second later, the unmistakable sound of bones breaking echoed through the inn.
"These guys are fucked," Xiao Wu muttered.
Shaking her head, she sighed at the Canghui students and their teacher. She was more than familiar with Ye Feng's ways. Since he had already taken action, it meant that these people weren't walking out of this inn in one piece tonight.
