Chapter 335: The High-Cloud Quintet Are Ultimately Just the Past
Everything before her was both strange and familiar.
Jingliu, her eyes covered, exuded a chilling cold. Dan Heng was steady yet hesitant. The Luofu around them had changed so much.
And… her gaze met Ren's. "Did you awaken me?"
"Yes. Your soul was connected to this Dragon Lady's. I used a few small tricks to separate you," he said casually.
"Soul…" Only then did Bai Heng notice her body was illusory and flickering, about to disappear. She gradually remembered. "I'm dead!"
"Bai Heng, is that really you?" Jingliu tremblingly extended her hand, and Bai Heng did the same.
"It's me." But as their palms met, they passed through each other.
"She's just a soul that's about to disappear. Don't bother," Ren kindly reminded her.
The memories of Dan Heng's former self, Yingxing, became clearer. He couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Ren, do you have the ability to make Bai Heng…"
"Shut up!" Before he could finish, Jingliu cut him off, her ice-condensed blade pressed against his neck.
"Yingxing! Have you forgotten? It was your stubbornness that caused Bai Heng's body to transform into a nefarious dragon! Do you still wish for her soul to lose its true essence?!" Her voice was filled with a ruthless madness.
"..." Dan Heng was silent. He had just tried to repeat Yingxing's mistakes.
"Yingxing… Jingliu…" Bai Heng was anxious. She didn't know what had happened while she was dead, but she felt that everything had changed. The Luofu, Jingliu, Yingxing… the High-Cloud Quintet…
She no longer dared to imagine further.
"It's easy to solidify her soul and let her live forever as a materialized soul, but what's the point?" As soon as Ren spoke, Jingliu and Dan Heng looked at him.
Breaking the ice blade, Jingliu asked, "Is everything you said true?"
Ren rubbed Bailu's head. "I wouldn't bother to lie about such a question."
Jingliu suddenly understood. This person was an existence comparable to an Aeon; nothing he could do should be surprising. But her heart began to struggle. On one hand, she wanted Bai Heng to depart peacefully, believing people should die in their rightful place. On the other hand, she wanted her good friend to live.
Compared to her hesitation, Dan Heng was more decisive. "If Mr. Ren can let Bai Heng live, I am willing to do anything for you." He wanted to atone for Yingxing's sins.
"…" After a moment, Jingliu also spoke. "Me too."
Bai Heng, however, waved her hands. "Jingliu! Yingxing! There's no need for this! I am already a dead person…"
"Hehe, that's not up to you," Ren grinned. "I'll accept the promise. What I said will come to pass."
He released the dizzy Bailu and walked towards Bai Heng, kissing her amidst the incredulous gazes of the others.
"Wow!!!" Bailu covered her eyes in fright, but still left large gaps between her fingers.
"Gulp." Stelle swallowed, poked Tingyun's large tail, and asked, "Does saving someone require a kiss? Is this the legendary artificial respiration?"
"..." Tingyun gave her a look that told her to figure it out herself, gently fanning her fan. "This might be Benefactor's special ability."
Phantylia remained silent; she only needed to watch. But the emotions overflowing from Jingliu and Dan Heng brought her pleasure.
Jingliu and Dan Heng froze, unsure how to react.
As for Ren, he had a simple reason: he just wanted to.
Bai Heng, experiencing this for the first time, was completely bewildered. But very quickly, she felt a strange power surge into her body from her lips. Her ethereal body was regaining vitality.
After a long time, their lips parted. Bai Heng's ears curled, her tail tucked between her legs, a visibly shy blush spreading across her face.
Ren's expression was normal. "There. She's pretty much alive now."
Upon hearing this, Jingliu rushed to Bai Heng's side, pinching her arm and cheek. There was warmth! There was touch!
But before she could get excited, Ren suddenly said, "Friendly reminder, Miss Bai Heng will have to follow me from now on to stay alive. She needs my energy supply."
The atmosphere instantly fell silent again.
Ren was still quite kind. He gave Bai Heng time to say goodbye.
During this time, he also visited various areas of the Luofu, like the Cloudford, the Dan Ding Division, the Ten-Lords Commission, and the Divination Commission, meeting many interesting people.
He encountered Welt and, during their chat, revealed that he was not from this universe, which surprised him. Ren also asked him an interesting question. "Do you have a wife or children?"
This made Welt pause before he calmly shook his head. "No, but I once adopted a child."
"Oh." Ren left after getting his answer. Indeed, this might really be the Welt from Kiana's world.
Later, he encountered a Mahjong table and met Qingque, who was good at slacking off. At the Cloudford, he helped the careless Cloud Knight Su Shang catch a thief and was treated to a root cake as a thank you. At the Divination Commission, he asked the Grand Astrologer Fu Xuan to try and tell his fortune. Unfortunately, the result was a chaotic void; his rank had exceeded the limits of the Divination Array.
He also witnessed the Ten-Lords Commission, meeting the lifelike Automaton Judge Xueyi, the quiet beauty Hanya, and a timid one named Huohuo.
Unknowingly, he had met many people on the Luofu.
When he returned to Bai Heng with Phantylia, she was the only one at the edge of the Starfall Sea, watching the passing Star Skiffs, a subtle sadness flowing from her.
