Ch. 29
Chapter 29: Resurrection
The scene of Zhang Yifeng being pushed down the stairs by Xiao Zhiquan happened to be witnessed by Lu Feng and the other four.
Lu Feng’s expression changed drastically, and he hurried down the stairs to check Zhang Yifeng’s condition.
Because of his thick skin and flesh, Zhang Yifeng’s body surface seemed to have only some bruises, without any broken bones.
However, Zhang Yifeng’s eyes were wide open, his expression twisted and hideous.
His neck was bent nearly ninety degrees to the right, his cervical spine obviously snapped completely.
He was dead beyond any doubt.
Another person had died right before her eyes.
Yu Mo’s face turned pale as she covered her mouth, while Liuli pressed her lips together in silence.
Lu Feng inhaled sharply, his face sinking as he cast an icy gaze—colder than ever before—toward Xiao Zhiquan, who was kneeling at the third-floor landing, his eyes blank with shock.
Lin You strode quickly over, grabbed Xiao Zhiquan, and glared at him with hatred in his eyes.
“You know what you just did, don’t you!? You killed someone!!”
“H-he forced me! He said I…”
Bang!
Before he could finish, Lin You smashed a heavy fist into his face.
“At first I thought you were just stupid, but I didn’t expect you to be truly rotten!”
As someone who had trained in martial arts, Lin You’s punch was nothing like what Lu Feng could manage.
Xiao Zhiquan was sent flying, rolled twice on the ground, and then lay there motionless.
Whether it was because he had just killed his classmate with his own hands and his spirit was already at the breaking point, or because Lin You’s punch was too heavy, Xiao Zhiquan fainted directly.
Lin You walked toward him coldly, ready to wake him up, but Lu Feng immediately stopped him.
“Wait, Lin You… look over there…”
Everyone followed the direction of Lu Feng’s finger, and they all gasped at once, their faces filled with shock.
They saw Zhang Yifeng’s twisted neck being slowly restored to its original position by some mysterious force, accompanied by the cracking sounds of bones snapping back into place.
Then, his pale face gradually regained color, and unbelievably, his chest began to rise and fall again.
Everyone stared in disbelief at this incomprehensible scene.
Lu Feng pried open Zhang Yifeng’s eyelids, checked his pulse, then turned to the others and said the conclusion that defied common sense yet conformed to the rules.
“…He came back to life.”
The miracle of resurrection had occurred right before their eyes.
Just as Lu Feng had speculated before, one deeper meaning behind the rule “only evil spirits can kill players” was—
Players could not kill players.
“It seems… our interpretation of that rule was correct. Players cannot kill one another.”
Lu Feng spoke thoughtfully.
“Then… what do we do now?”
Lin You stared blankly at the unconscious Xiao Zhiquan, then at Zhang Yifeng, who had just revived but had not yet woken up.
A tingling sensation ran across his scalp.
What would happen once the two of them woke up?
Lu Feng frowned in thought for a moment, then raised his head and said to Lin You and Zhang Tong,
“Carry them back to their own rooms. Then… pretend this never happened.”
Lu Feng sighed softly.
This was the best way to keep things from worsening.
“If they ask, just tell them nothing like this happened.”
Only… if not for the rule “only evil spirits can kill players,” Zhang Yifeng would have truly been killed by Xiao Zhiquan.
In such an environment, it seemed no action was beyond imagination…
Lu Feng thought silently.
Evil spirits, the old mansion, a killing game… with all these abnormal things combined, could anyone trapped in this game still remain sane?
But no one would have expected this.
Everything had happened too quickly.
It was only the third day, and such a thing had already occurred.
What would happen in the days to come…?
Lu Feng no longer dared to imagine.
With deep worry about the future in his heart, Lu Feng, Lin You, and Zhang Tong struggled to carry Zhang Yifeng’s heavy body back to his room.
By the time they had moved them both, the three were panting, drenched in sweat.
They threw him onto the bed, gasping for a long time before catching their breath.
“Damn… this guy’s way too heavy!”
Lin You wiped the sweat from his forehead.
“This reminds me of carrying pigs to the slaughterhouse back at Grandma’s during New Year. That was the only other time I’ve been this tired…”
Even Zhang Tong couldn’t help but complain.
Just as the three were about to leave, Lu Feng suddenly paused.
He hesitated, then glanced back.
“What is it, Feng Feng?”
Lin You asked in confusion.
Lu Feng thought for a moment, then said,
“…Strip him.”
“…What?”
…
After dealing with the two, they finally set out to explore the eerie dining hall.
Inside, they searched for its specific location using the coordinates (12, 20, 18).
After measuring carefully, the five confirmed the location—it was a cramped storage room behind the dining hall kitchen.
The storage room was cluttered with all sorts of junk and abandoned kitchen tools, with rusty spatulas and knives piled like a mountain.
The group spent tremendous effort clearing out the room, and at last, beneath the damp, slippery floor, they uncovered a hidden trapdoor.
Their eyes lit up with excitement as they pulled on the ring handle together.
Creak—
The heavy trapdoor opened with a piercing screech, revealing a concealed stairway below.
The narrow passageway was just wide enough for one person.
It seemed to run within the thick walls between the first and second floors.
The stairs led into a pitch-black space, from which emanated a foul, decayed odor.
Staring at the ominous darkness below, Lu Feng frowned slightly.
“I’ll go first. Lin You, Zhang Tong, you follow me. Yu Mo and Liuli, you stay here.”
“No, I’m going with you.”
Yu Mo refused firmly, and Liuli nodded in agreement.
“But we don’t know what’s down there. For you girls to…”
Lin You and Zhang Tong clearly sided with Lu Feng’s decision.
“And besides, Feng Feng is our leader. At a time like this, we should respect his call, right?”
“I’m not anyone’s leader…” Lu Feng shook his head.
“Oh, come on, don’t be modest. Everyone already knows it.”
Lin You patted Lu Feng’s shoulder with a look that said, “You know what I mean.”
“But…”
Just as Yu Mo was about to argue further, Lu Feng suddenly felt a strange push from behind, as if an invisible but powerful hand shoved him forward.
His heart leapt, but his body was already off balance.
He fell straight into the passage ahead.
At that moment, Yu Mo, who stood behind him, instinctively reached out to catch him.
But her delicate frame couldn’t withstand his weight.
Instead, her attempt to pull him back dragged her forward as well, and she fell with him.
The two cried out in shock as they tumbled into the pitch-black passage.
Lin You and the others were startled by the sudden turn of events and rushed toward the opening to follow.
But just then, the heavy trapdoor was lifted by an invisible force and slammed shut before their eyes with a thunderous bang.
