Don’t Play Games at Evil Spirit High

Ch. 24

Chapter 24: Clue

Night fell once again.

The already gloomy sky grew even darker, and the hour hand on the quartz clock had unknowingly made a full circle.

Throughout the entire day, the five of them, Lu Feng and the others, had barely eaten, only drinking a little water.

They searched tirelessly inside the old mansion, looking for clues about the first task.

However, a whole day passed, and they found nothing.

By eight o’clock in the evening, exhaustion overwhelmed them, coupled with the hunger brought on by not eating all day.

Their strength had long been drained away.

So, they decided to go together to the dining hall for a meal.

When they arrived, the room was empty.

The long table was still covered with steaming hot food, waiting at any time for someone to enjoy it.

“Sigh, after searching for so long, we still found nothing. Is that so-called clue really inside this mansion?”

Lin You mumbled indistinctly as he stuffed food into his mouth.

“It should be there… after all, the rules of the game did mention the phrase 『through limited hints』.”

Zhang Tong spoke while thinking.

“Limited hints, huh…”

Lin You swallowed his food, then turned to look at Lu Feng.

“Feng Feng, you’re so smart. Got any ideas?”

“…Everyone searched the mansion together today. If I had found something, wouldn’t I have told you already…”

Lu Feng sighed, his gaze shifting toward Yu Mo, who had barely spoken to him all day, and Liuli, whose behavior seemed oddly unusual.

He couldn’t quite figure out what was going on with the two of them.

Yu Mo’s state could be explained as being shaken by Su Qi’s tragic death that morning, but Liuli?

All day long, Liuli had been acting strangely, almost unreasonably… enthusiastic toward him?

Could it be because of last night…

At that thought, Lu Feng suddenly choked on his juice, coughing violently.

Seeing this, Liuli immediately and gently patted his back with tenderness.

But Lu Feng reacted as if he had his tail stepped on, springing up like a startled cat.

Still coughing, he stammered,

“Y-you guys… cough cough… keep eating, I… cough cough… I’ll head back first…”

Wiping away the tears forced out by choking, Lu Feng slipped out of the dining hall under everyone’s gaze.

Lin You and Zhang Tong exchanged a look, then glanced at the eerie atmosphere between Yu Mo and Liuli.

Their eyes instantly showed an expression of “I get it.”

“So, the two of us are witnessing a live love-triangle drama~~”

“To be honest, I always thought this kind of scene only happened in novels…”

While the two of them whispered together, Yu Mo suddenly stood up.

“You guys eat. I’m full.”

She spoke softly, then walked straight out of the dining hall without looking back.

“I’m full too. I’ll go first.”

Liuli followed closely behind, leaving only Lin You and Zhang Tong behind.

“Tsk tsk, women, really scary.”

“Sigh, if my future girlfriend were as pretty as Liuli or Yu Mo, I’d take scary any day.”

The two shook their heads with a sigh.

However, beneath this seemingly lighthearted surface, all five of them still carried the heavy, bloody corpse in their hearts.

Inside a dim room, the window was tightly shut, not a wisp of air passing through.

On the slightly messy bed, a small and slender body curled up.

Her name was Bai Quye, just a transparent, unnoticeable presence in class.

Her looks were plain, her figure average (literally), her skin with a hint of wheat color.

She usually didn’t like to talk, and her voice was slightly hoarse.

Some people often whispered behind her back that she wasn’t like a girl at all, since she lacked everything a girl should have.

But she never cared about such things.

All she wished for was to smoothly finish high school, then enter university, where she could freely do whatever she wanted.

Yet no one could have imagined that this originally beautiful dream would be completely shattered on that eerie morning…

At this moment, she curled up on the bed, wrapping herself tightly in the blanket, trembling uncontrollably.

That mournful scream from the morning still seemed to echo in her ears.

Bai Quye had not seen what that Evil Spirit looked like, nor did she ever want to.

But the harrowing scream that pierced through the walls was enough to make her mind conjure up every horrific scene imaginable.

Even now, she still could not accept that everything she was seeing was truly happening.

More than once, she doubted whether everything right now was just a nightmare.

That when she woke up, she would still be lying in her warm little bed, with her favorite bunny plushie by her pillow.

Yet no matter what Bai Quye did, this dream refused to end…

By her pillow lay a bloodstained kitchen knife, and beneath her, the scarlet blood had soaked almost the entire bedsheet.

Lu Feng rushed back to his room, slamming the door shut with a loud “bang.” His body weakened as he collapsed onto the sofa.

Hoo—

He let out a heavy breath, the weight pressing on his heart making him want to fall asleep instantly.

But Lu Feng didn’t dare close his eyes.

It felt as though the moment he relaxed his mind even slightly, Su Qi’s mutilated corpse would appear before him.

Today’s search had yielded nothing.

Almost every corner of the mansion had been explored by the group, yet not a single thing could be considered a “hint.”

As for who the five Evil Spirit Followers were, they had absolutely no leads.

Neither task could proceed smoothly.

They had already reached an impasse before even beginning.

This harsh reality deeply struck Lu Feng, filling him with a crushing sense of helplessness.

This damned game!

That helplessness gradually turned into fury.

Deep inside, Lu Feng cursed this game that toyed with human lives.

“Damn it!!!”

Swept away by his anger, he lost his rare calmness, seizing the glass teacup he had used earlier and hurling it against the wall.

With a sharp “crash,” it shattered into pieces.

Pa!

Shards of glass struck an oil painting hanging on the wall.

The painting wobbled twice before falling down, revealing a dark hole in the wall that had been hidden beneath the frame.

The hole was only the size of a fist, looking like it had been there all along.

Lu Feng froze.

Staring at the hole, he stepped closer with doubt, standing on tiptoe to peer inside.

But it was far too dark inside the hole.

He couldn’t see anything.

Hesitating for a moment, Lu Feng gritted his teeth and reached his hand inside.

He was determined to see what kind of secret had been hidden in his room all along, without him ever noticing.

The hole was small.

Even squeezing his fist inside, Lu Feng could feel the narrowness.

Not knowing what lay within, he carefully groped forward with his fingers.

Suddenly, he touched something.

It was soft, no bigger than a grain of rice, and it kept squirming.

The moment it touched his finger, it began crawling upward.

A chill surged from the bottom of his heart.

Lu Feng’s expression instantly twisted, every hair on his body standing on end as goosebumps covered him.

He hastily yanked his hand out, but just before pulling free, he accidentally bumped into something hard.

Holding his hand before his eyes, Lu Feng spotted a fly larva clinging to his finger.

Disgust immediately washed over him.

But he had no time to bother with that now.

Clearly, something was hidden inside this hole behind the painting, and anything concealed in this old mansion could not possibly be simple.

With that thought, Lu Feng no longer cared about the fly larva on his hand.

Once more, he stretched out his hand, slowly probing into the hole.
