Don’t Play Games at Evil Spirit High

Ch. 21

Chapter 21: The First Person

My name was Su Qi, an ordinary girl in Grade 3 Class 2 of Xinli No. 1 High School.

Originally, today I was just like usual, quietly reading my book and preparing for the college entrance exam that was only a few weeks away.

But who could have known that before the first class even began, I suddenly fainted, and when I woke up...

What was this place? Evil Spirit High School?

What was that puppet? Was I in some kind of live horror show?

Just when I could not make sense of the situation, that puppet suddenly spoke, and then told us to play something called a “Ghost Hunt”!

And so, all of us were forced into this so-called game without any rhyme or reason...

At this moment, I was standing together with over twenty of my classmates inside the hall of this eerie old mansion.

Although there were many people around me, I still felt scared, because...

it was almost twelve o’clock!

“Don’t worry, Qiqi, I will protect you!”

Xiao Zhiquan said to me.

I knew that he had liked me since a long time ago, but I hated the way he carried himself like a delinquent, so I had always ignored him.

The one I liked was Lu Feng—outstanding in grades and refined in appearance.

But I had never expected that in a situation like this, Lu Feng would be so cowardly.

He did not dare to face the evil spirit with us at all, and instead huddled together with a few others like a turtle hiding in its shell!

I had really misjudged him!

On the other hand, Xiao Zhiquan was stepping up to lead our classmates, determined to resist the evil spirit to the very end, while constantly showing concern for me...

I realized...

I had started to develop a bit of affection for him.

“Mm, thank you...”

Hearing his promise, I felt much more at ease.

If...

if we could make it through tonight safely, then I would accept his confession...

At that moment, the clock struck twelve.

My heart tightened all of a sudden, and I could not help but grip Xiao Zhiquan’s hand.

The burning warmth of his palm gave me a sliver of comfort.

Everyone was terrified.

Over twenty of us pressed close together, as if huddling like this could grant us a sense of safety through numbers.

“Don’t you dare let your guard down! Keep your eyes fixed on the area in front of you, and the moment you notice anything strange, shout out immediately!”

Xiao Zhiquan shouted loudly.

His voice trembled, revealing that he, too, was afraid.

Time ticked by, minute after minute.

Everyone held their breath.

The entire old mansion had sunk into a deathly silence.

The faint light above our heads flickered on and off, casting shifting shadows across the entire house, as though ghosts lurked in every corner, making the atmosphere bone-chillingly eerie.

Please...

let this night pass safely...

I did not even know to whom I was praying.

...

I did not know how long it had been, but the nerves I had kept taut for so long could no longer hold.

Everyone sat weakly in the hall, drained by a sleepless night of unrelenting tension, which had already crushed many to the point of collapse.

I lifted my head toward the quartz clock on the wall.

Its hands were about to reach six o’clock, and outside the window the world was gradually turning brighter.

I could not help but breathe a sigh of relief.

This painful night was finally coming to an end...

However, the moment I turned my head, I saw—

In the pitch-black corner just a few meters in front of me, a hideous, pale face was grinning at me.

At that instant, I suddenly understood something—

Maybe...

Lu Feng had been right all along.

...

Lu Feng sat on the sofa, holding his head up with exhaustion, his bloodshot eyes stubbornly refusing to close.

The others with him were in much the same state.

A whole night of extreme tension had worn them down in a way that could not be compared to staying up all night playing games.

The teapot on the table had been refilled and emptied again and again, the tea leaves inside replaced over and over, until the supply he had taken from the dining room was completely used up.

Lu Feng lifted his head to glance at the quartz clock—it was almost six.

The dim sky outside was showing the faintest signs of light, a sign that the night was nearly over.

Safe through the night—that was what Lu Feng had originally thought.

But at that moment, a piercing scream shattered the silence.

The groggy crowd jolted awake in an instant, their sluggish hearts suddenly pounding wildly.

They exchanged glances with one another, all seeing in each other’s eyes that inescapable terror.

They knew—the evil spirit had arrived!

In the very next moment, Lu Feng was the first to dash out of the room.

But he was not going to save anyone.

He was going to gather information about the evil spirit.

Once someone was attacked by it, there was no hope of rescue.

This was the conclusion Lu Feng had drawn after studying the rules of the game thoroughly.

He quickly ran to the end of the corridor, standing on the third floor as he looked down into the hall below.

And then, he saw it—the figure of that pale, withered evil spirit, and the tragic sight of Su Qi being held in its grasp, screaming in agony.

That moment struck Lu Feng like thunder.

...

When exactly had the evil spirit appeared? No one knew.

All they knew was that the moment it showed itself, Su Qi was already in its hands.

Half of its body was hidden in the shadows.

Its form was shriveled and deathly pale, its ghastly face twisted into a grin nearly splitting its head to the ears.

Its empty eyes stared fixedly at everyone present, as though memorizing each of their faces.

But the most horrifying part was—it had eight arms.

Each one was bent backward at grotesque angles, making them look monstrously deformed.

Lu Feng instantly recognized it—this was the exact same evil spirit that had chased him in his dreams!

At that moment, Su Qi was bound tight by its eight arms.

Her limbs and head were each gripped firmly, leaving her unable to move, as though tied to a pyre like a witch awaiting judgment.

The girl had been utterly broken by fear.

Her face was ghostly pale, tears of despair streaming as she stared toward Xiao Zhiquan, whose legs trembled uncontrollably.

“Save... save me... please... save me...”

A pale yellow trickle slipped from beneath Su Qi’s pleated skirt, running down her thighs and dripping to the ground.

In the next instant, her desperate pleas turned into shrieks of agony.

Accompanied by the crack of snapping bones, blood burst forth.

The evil spirit had snapped Su Qi’s right leg in two, her shattered bones piercing through her flesh and jutting out into the air.

The sound of bones breaking rang again and again.

With each motion of the evil spirit, the girl screamed pitifully, pale liquid flowing uncontrollably from beneath her skirt, her face smeared with tears and snot.

Her left leg was twisted into the shape of a “braid.” Her body became grotesquely deformed, scarlet blood dripping to the floor.

“Save me... save me!! Xiao Zhiquan!!!!”

Su Qi shrieked with all her might, her bloodshot eyes locked on him.

That desperate, resentful gaze seemed to demand—

Didn’t you promise to protect me?

Then why weren’t you saving me now!!

And what was Xiao Zhiquan doing?

He had already been scared senseless.

From the moment the evil spirit appeared, all courage and thought of resistance had left him.

All he wanted was to run as far away as possible.

At this moment, he trembled violently where he stood, his face pale as he stared at Su Qi’s torment.

His clothes were drenched with sweat, and even the area between his legs was slightly damp.

Su Qi’s screams did not stop.

The evil spirit’s grin grew wider as it continued its torment.

Amid the girl’s weakening cries, her arms were twisted together into a “knot.” Then, grabbing both sides of her ribcage, the evil spirit pressed inward sharply, like crushing cream—

“Puff!!!!”

Her ribs snapped like brittle branches, and a torrent of blood sprayed from Su Qi’s mouth.

The girl could no longer scream.

Only a guttural “grrk, grrk, grrk” rasp came from her throat.

Her ruined body spasmed and twitched violently, streams of blood gushing endlessly from every part of her.

Finally, her body went still—

Crack!

The evil spirit twisted her neck, ending her suffering.
